I love Apoxy Sculpt. I don't know how I made anything before I found it. Side note, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) works just as well as the solvent that's sold for Apoxy Sculpt. You get more for your dollar with rubbing alcohol.

For anyone that might want to use sculpey, you can get bake and bond (I believe it's called clay adhesive now or similar) where you can glue either baked or un-baked parts of sculpey together. Also you can bake it as many times as you want, but I can totally see why it doesn't work for certain projects!

Another awesome tip for Aves and other epoxy-based sculpting clay I picked up a few years back: cling film, celophane wrap, plastic wrap - whatever it's called where you live - makes a FANTASTIC resist for it. You can put some of that stuff on something you want to take an impression of, smash the epoxy clay into it, let it set up, and then clean peel the wrap off the dried epoxy clay. Really handy for doing repairs to existing parts and getting really nice tight fits between multiple parts (like if you're making an articulating toy or something). You get a perfect impression of the master without leaving a bunch of epoxy chunks all over it, and without having your epoxy chunks covered in a release agent (which ime can make it set up weird).

I used to use super sculpey, making bowling pin sculptures for my Etsy shop. I had to sculpt whatever elements I needed and then lower the bowling pins into boiling water, 'cause I wasn't about to put a nylon coated pin in our oven. Then after being introduced to apoxie sculpt(via the free range chicken video) I immediately bought some. Best decision ever, no more holding bowling pins over a pasta pot of boiling water for 15-20 minutes every time i sculpt. I have been using it for any/all sculpting I need to do since.

I have a weird dislike of the sound and texture of sandpaper. I've found jewelry files to be amazing tools when it comes to shaping and smoothing epoxy clay. Scotchbrite pads and steel wool are also nice for getting a matte finish. Just wanted to add those thoughts in to anyone looking for additional tools.

Just so you know, you can mix different 2 part epoxies! I've come to rely on a mix of green stuff and apoxie sculpt. I usually do about 25-30% GS for building the basic shape, and then 50:50 for doing finer detail work. You'll want to mix the Apoxie first then the GS then mix both together.

Anyway, loads of stress & worry. Got home after they ran us out of the ICU (visiting hours y'all) to find a Crafsman vid-o in my subscription list! There's just something soothing and detoxing/de-stressing about you. Bob Ross of crafting? Yeah. But funnier. I needed that. Right then. Hey Crafman, I know you won't see this, but I want to share anyway since you're the reason I started my own 3d printing service, but if you angle your molds just a bit, like 15 degrees, it makes the part stronger, and there's less failures. At 8:59 you can see that the bottom edge of the models are parallel to the make plate. Just give them a bit of a twist so that there aren't any supports on that bottom edge that are making contact with the model at the same time. It helps distribute the suction force from when the make plate rises up from the FEP film. Especially at the beginning when where the model transitions from the supports to the actual work piece. The least amount of the surface area in a given slice that has be pulled free of the FEP film the better.

Even the baby laughs and claps if she's in the room when you're on-screen. I've really enjoyed going back and looking at your character designs - I'm gearing up to illustrate a kids' book I just finished writing and your process gave me some great ideas. Also: if you're looking for digital sculpting on PC you can get Sculptris, it's like Zbrush's baby brother. It's technically discontinued but it's free, still available and it works!
