i am living in amersfoort, and my mom lives in amsterdam. trust me, the video's you see here are nothing! just wait until someone craft a few cobra-6's together. trust me, that is a full on bomb. 1 box of "gillende keukenmeiden"(usually used for creating avalanches before snow season starts, to protect people against avalances)( i don't know the english name), is the equivalent of a hand grenade. a couple cobra's and you will have yousrelf an anti-tank mine. someone once dropped one cobra in the aula of their school, blew avery windown on the first and second floor, destoryed 2 tables and a couple of chairs(and got him self expelled). illegal fireworks can be crazy, but the police is on top of that, with taskforces for fireworkbombs(if someone patches a couple things together) and a task force for illegal fireworks. each year, a few months before the actual thing(expecting it any time now actually) you hear news reports of vans full with illegal fireworks, ceized by the police.

I don't know how it is now, but I was a student in Italy in '81 and down in Rome, you were foolish to go out on New Year's Eve -- they like to throw out the old, which could be large objects from high floors. Roman humor is different, rather coarse I found. I liked it in Rome but I was warned about some stuff.

Here are some Safety Tips For when you go out on Oud en Nieuw (New year's eve): 1: Wear non-flammable clothing and jacket (jeans, wool, leader) A Big NO NO: Plastic (when on fire it sticks to skin) Also Very loos fitting cloading Lady's Tight bra plz. this is to prevent fireworks from flying or landing inside your cloading so protect your neck, chest, wrist's and leg's. 2: Safety glasses! have a look around in the city before oud and nieuw the Fireworks shops normally also sell safety glasses for like 2.50~12 Euro's. the highest chance of dmg to you is not you going up in a fire ball, its a firework flying past your eye's and leaving powder burn's on your cornea (eye ball) or a roge firework fly's into your eye 3: Ear plug's the fire works are Loude Planty loude to give you permanent hearing damage. also you can get them at fireworks shops and many othere's. 4: IF You see some one run a way from there just lit firework TAKE Care Just also run a way there is a BIG Chance that person is not scared of fireworks and just light off a illegal firework with a VERY BIG BANG!!! Cover your ears and take cover just to be safe. If you will be lighting off fire works Here are also some tip's: 1: Get your self a GOOD Lighter, to not use a very cheap lighter preferable use a storm lighter or get a lighting cord at the fireworks shop's (thy kinda work like shit tho) so a good storm lighter is key, Els get 2 semi good lighters 1 Long wane (the one with the long neck) and a normal Good working cheap lighter Tip:(you can hack some normal Lighters to have a Biger flame I suggest you Do this) this will make it more safe this way you know what your flame is doing and your not fighting the wind in stead of looking out for your safety. 2: DO NOT Put your head above the fire work's i know its hard your trying to block the wind from blowing out the fire but just DON'T. 3: keep a eye on your surroundings take care of kid's and Watch groups of 14~28 year old's thy might just set off a illegal firework between your leg's wile your fighting with your own firework just for Lolz...

It sounds like "The Purge" (B-grade movie about a future USA where crime is legal one night a year), but with less bloodshed.

We have to wear safety glasses because people will lose a eye or an other body part (like a finger)

Hide your pets keep your windows closed and don't go outside if you don't know how to safely get around. My cousin lost her eye due to firework, she stood at the back of the crowd and didn't light any herself but a fireworks fountain fell over and just hit her in the eye. I usually and still laugh when I hear people lose their hands and stuff because they got hurt by their own incompetence but when innocent people get affected is when it turns nasty.

Just wondering how pet owners - particular those with dogs - get on? Is there usually a sudden spike in "lost dog" notices afterwards?

+johnmccnj Haha a lot of people make sure our pets are inside and safe before 12 o' clock!! In the news you mostly hear about cats because they tend to walk the streets more freely than dogs!
