My advice for winning IMPORTANT points

Спорт

Big points are usually LOST, not WON.
I'll show you some crucial points in a match between Sloane Stephens and Leyla Fernandez at the WTA 500 event in Charleston, SC to demonstrate how even pros can lower their level in the biggest moments.

Great examples! Love this video for showing my hs players how to win! Very important! Thank you again! If our team has the year I believe they can, I’m crediting you for making me a better coach!

I once read a stat (can't remember where) that the average % of total won points in a match across a huge sample size was ~55%. I think your example captures that beautifully, how quickly tides can turn and how a little makes a big difference. Thanks for the upload.

Yes Sean Ohannassy, he worked with Novak sometime in past always mentions this in his videos. I probably butchered l the spelling of his name. I heard Federer made it a big deal mentally to win the first point of each service game to avoid immediate score pressure and risk being broken on serve.

@@topspin1715thanks! I think we all agree, starting off 15-0 feels significantly better than 0-15, so that makes total sense.

Good stuff! In looking at the 2nd point the wide serve pulled Sloan off the court creating what looked like a wide open potential up the line winner that Layla just missed. Are you suggesting she should have just gone cross court for a higher percentage shot on this critical point? To reduce errors it makes sense to go back cross court but damn how do you not go for that winner. It’s just taunting you to go there!

Go line but with more margin. Dont TRY to hit a winner, just let it happen naturally

Keep working on your strokes I guess, technique, etc. But just choose the right targets.
