Did you know I've made over 800+ other videos on KZread? Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and watch another Barnacules Nerdgasm video right after this one! 🍿 Unfortunately my LG 12,000 BTU Window AC unit stopped working while I was trying to shoot a Nintendo Switch Lite unboxing video causing the Nerd Cave to get way too hot and it felt like a sauna in here. So the logical thing is to take Window Air Conditioner out and try to fix it and save a few hundred dollars if all goes well. What do we have to lose, let's fix it & make a #DIYGasm video!

"back" ... Nope
I hope you guys learned a valuable lesson from this video that can help you keep from throwing away a perfectly good AC like I almost did. I highly recommend you invest in a dolly so you don't kill your back trying to move around super heavy stuff like I did. If you guys like this content and want to see more like it along with my other nerdy content (coming up next is Nintendo Switch Lite unboxing) please hit that Subscribe button and enable notifications 🙏 Again, super huge thank you to my Patrons (patreon.com/barnacules) for their help cutting the RAW video down from 28 minutes to this 13 minute faster paced video. Couldn't have done it without them and that's why I included every last one of them in the end credit sequence 💘 UPDATES: - After 2 full days of operation it's working flawlessly, got the room down to 62f just to see if it could do it 🙏 - No more frosting, people said that it's a bad thing so I pulled the front off and absolutely no frost now, I suspect it was just after starting it up after being off for 24 hours sitting - Lots of people recommended chemical cleaners to make the process so much faster, I'll certainly get these next time! - Before the repair the compressor would kick on, then right back off. I almost threw this thing away and now it's working like new - I noticed the compressor doesn't stay on nearly as long as it did in the past, now it just kicks on for a few minutes then keeps blowing cold air. This is cutting noise down a lot - I won't let it go this long without a cleaning ever again!

@@Dirtyboxer1 "if women don't find you handsome at least let them find you handy". I found out that you can get a "generic universal" one brand new, made from all replacement parts $700
For mine, I used a pressure washer and a 40 degree nozzle to keep the pressure from being too high, and then a leaf blower loosen any other dirt in it. Other than that, those units can work even during a heavy rain storm, thus they are fine with quick use after washing them. I regularly clean it to save on the electric bill.
The best quality DIY on internet that I found. Measuring the temp before and after is what made me do it. And like you said "a clogged ac is nothing more than a glorified fan" lmao ty so much !
Glad to see you back at it and in good spirits, man! I miss your DIYGasms and your regular nerd content! Stay positive, my friend!
I’m a professional HVAC installer and repairer (25 years experience). I also repAir window units on weekly basis. Next time your units airflow becomes comprised, I suggest an easier approach. All you need is 1jar of honey and a tea bag. Turn the unit off. Put the tea bag INTO about 8 ounces of hot water. Then take the honey and put it on some toast with butter. Pour the tea and enjoy. Then go ahead and install a split system. 🤣😂

so happy your back!! i remember the AC vid. would be cool to make it so all the cold air goes through a tube into your computer before cooling the room so u get some good overclocking
What happened to this guy. I miss his videos
next time I would say just turn the leaf blower on it first, then user water. That crud will clean out better and easier when its dry and that leaf blower will move a massive amount of air and dry out any "wet or moist" debris.. But yeah you do have to wash down or blow out even your central AC units on the outside twice a year to keep them working right.. glad it helped and awesome to see classic content!
@Barnacules
4 жыл бұрын
I tried blowing super high pressure air through it with my AC first (didn't make it in the final video) and it didn't move anything. That crud was baked on like some kind of clay cake. Is that just dirt and mud? Or is it like tree sap from the trees in my back yard? The stuff was a nightmare to get out. What the video doesn't show you is that 2 hours of several cycles going back and fourth to get it all out.
@rtxrt73
4 жыл бұрын
@@Barnacules dude that is all the stuff floating around in the air. Basically as it sticks to the condensation on the radiator it turns to mud and the repeated drying and moisture basically get it to become a crud cake so to speak... I know for my AC units out here in Texas I have to turn the hose on em every few months.. I would recommend doing that too even if it's blowing well... Also if you're going to get up in a ladder to do it please take as many breaks as you need and might I recommend a camel pack backpack or some other bladder type pack so you can get hydration instantly while your up on the ladder.. most of all take care of yourself big guy.. this is coming from someone who would make you look small...
