My Abused Yamaha R1 Has More Problems | Track Bike to Street Bike EP.2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It would be silly not to take my track Yamaha R1 to the racetrack before I strip it down and turn it back into a street bike. But now I've discovered more issues...

Use aluminum foil to cover the mid pipe when doing oil changes so u don’t get oil on it and done have to wait for it to burn off

If you do your oil change right you don’t need lame hacks.
The upper fuel injectors are probably what's causing the engine cutting out. There is a bike garage channel on YT (in German) where the guy often has to deal with R1s, and this seems to be the most common problem. The upper injectors open at about 9k RPM. He has a special pump to clean them in place, but you'll probably have to strip them and clean them.

Plausible issue if the uppers are clogged. Most likely issue is ELECTRICAL. Either in the harness to the ecu or some other add on. Since it was a track bike there has been some wiring creativity.

If the previous owner was using race gas and not cleaning the injectors after use than I would definitely check but if it was only pump fuel no so much the case. Doesn’t hurt to check since I personally don’t like to just eliminate someone’s theory on the matter.

This. We clean clogged injectors in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Doesnt make sense to me. It would just make less power since the bottom ones are still firing. This bike actually entirely cuts out..

@@dennisgibb7958 The same YT garage (Stecher Motorradtechnik) has seen R1s where the side stand sensor was connected to the manifold switch!
Can’t wait to see where this series goes!
I am really loving this R1 content!!! Can't wait to see more (3 weeks is going to also be a long wait for us).
Sad to see some of the intermittent issues like it cutting out, but this bike is going to be 10/10 once finished! 🙌 Track content is always fun to watch, and that carbon fibre intake duct looks so sick🔥
I really enjoyed every minute of this series! Can’t wait for the next episode!
I have to say I'm a 35 y.o. dad of two kids, IT office guy, and fully casual rider with my CBR650R fullstock, who's servicing the bike at the dealership, and I fucking love your channel and your videos. I don't know what makes them so entertaining and fun to watch, but man - it's super fun and engaging. Thanks, CC! P.S. Make it Orange Metallic/Black.
loving this series bro, i look forward the next ep 🤙
LOVE the increasing amount of videos! Cannot wait for more
Some of the best motorcycle content on youtube.
I love to see people restoring these pieces of history to their original form.... Keep up with the work... More than cosmetic mods, modifying the internal systems to improve its performance is my kind of thing... Do consider this if you like.. Can't wait to see where this goes...
This is a series I’m really excited about!
I had great fun with my S22's at Phakisa. Great tyres.

Impressed me too. Tyres can easily destroy confidence but these had great feedback
Sooooooo amped to see this transofrmation! Keep up the hard work bud! Cheers from Cape Town!
I like how open and honest this journey is. This is pretty much what I expected from buying a flogged out track bike. If I was rich I'd buy you a fresh R1
You killed it bro! 1st place in your class! 🥇🏆
I love this series. I have a KTM rc390 which too is an ex track bike. I had a similar issue with the it cutting out but more at idle rev range. Recently it got so bad that I experienced power loss like in the video. Turns out my tank was completely rusted inside as well as my fuel pump. This rust was blocking the filter causing a lack of fuel to the engine and delay with the throttle. I recommend that you take out the petrol in the bike now and syphon is through a fuel filter to catch any particles. This will might save you sometime before you have to remove the tank. If it is the case that your tank is rusted, you can get the inside coated with a special paint instead of needing to replace the tank. Sending live love from CPT
I can't wait for the part 3🔥🔥🔥
the cut on and off is scary with that much power. Imagine coming out a corner hard on the apex and the bike starts doing that. Its gonna be welcome to Yamaha Airways Flight 847
Problems? I say learning opportunity! Thanks for the videos bro!
your strip down - rebuild videos are the best!
Love your channel ❤
I have been waiting for this video ❤❤
I like videos when you have sportbikes , they suit you verywell :D Nice R1 btw ,can't wait to see it complete ;)
Love this series
Love this series. I’m even tempted to buy a ‘project’ bike. But given I don’t know one end of a screwdriver from the other that could be lethal 😂
4:36 simple cooking foil over the headers will help to keep them clean )
All normal stuff for the bike you bought. Bike runs well. Your issues are purely cosmetic. And safety wired drilled bolts…..just leave them be. The aftermarket suspension on that bike cost more than your total replacement parts list. Enjoy the bike.
Your dead batery start reminded me of "chim chimney" that old move marry poppins.
Already subscribed but I changed the notifications to all. Pardon the pun but this video channel has really changed gear! The whole production is a lot better I reckon. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do.
Yo Nice too see this video ! Thanks ! I do ride s22 for 2 years already and also ride pirelli sc3 ... But the trust this tyre give was incredible! Hope you like it ! 💪👍🔥
If I were you, i'd paint it yellow exactly like how dad's bike was.

I would take the original yellow farings they beautiful. Love the video
Really Enjoying this series. Keep going, and once its done, PLEASE don't wreck or crash it, Some youtubers do that type of stuff for views.
That looked like fun My fave colour is sky blue like the old Players racing cars with white accents/livery.
Waiting for the next part 😊
Congrats on absolutely smashing the track time, you’re on your way to a great GP carrier🫡
Goin' all Maverick Vinales on us with that shifting problem. I see what you did there :D
old school white with red racing stripes!!
I have S22s on my MT10, love them. I will most likely get them for my R1M.
I like the red and white Haga-era livery.
Bike sounds awesome!
@chaos causes you can still ride the bike on the track with trackday tires like the Bridgestone R11 and it won't cost an arm and a leg. But to each his own. Good thing you spoke to Morney at RedStar, I presume. He really knows the R1 and R6 and can help you setup that sweet suspension for the road setting you need.
cuz that motocross jump was brutal, glad you ok after that.
one of the best motovlog
I forget you have hair, sweet vid man
Love your content dude. Would love to meet you. You gonna be at Kyalami tomorrow?
that coolant reservoir tank was a "mechanic kiss" 🤣🤣
love the videos
2 tips i can give you that i saw on the video for the r1 is when u power wash them it tends to get water in the battery terminal so remember this if you ever have a problem that the bike won't start and also when you put in on a paddock stand don't put it in gear and let the wheel spin cz it usually throws a check engine light
I liked it in race trim. I’m not a fan of black sportbikes, but for some reason, yours works. As far as your fuel cut-off goes, check your fuel line. It might be kinked. That’s what happened to me on my 2009 R1 when I would open it up on the track.
Amazing how hot headers get after about 30 seconds of running. Accidentally knelt against mine once and looked down to see bare leg where my trousers once were, spent the next few minutes trying to get smoking melted nylon off the exhaust...🤣
You should get a polariser (CPL filter) for the Go3 next time you put it in the helmet, it will reduce the glare from the visor and should make for a better result.
My order from Japan last month took 6 weeks. Gotta love SA
If it was mine I'd make it purple, nice to have an interesting colour on a bike like that :)
amazing video
Likewise i have fantasised about a current gen R1 for years (i watched your dream bike vid when it came out) but way out of my price range. Looks like this year i might finally upgrade to one even though used prices in UK are pretty insane. I will not be going cheap after watching this though - buy cheap, pay twice as they say. Great vids dude 👍🏻 Have you looked at Monster Fairings (made in USA I believe)? Cheers dude 🍻
I had a stand alone quick shifter that was causing cut out issues, on my 2016 r6. It was very intermittent until it almost left me stranded.
The fuel pump problems had me in giggles hahaha can you show us how'd you clip on your instant go 3? Did you use the hat mount that was provided? I used duct tape to put it on my helmet idk how to do it as nicely as you did cheers ride safe! I'd love to have the 2020 R1 in the future currently riding the 2012 R1
4:40 Go to che kitchen and take some piece of square aluminum tin foil to wrap on the exhaust. Much more cleaner job without smelling worrying smells of burnt oil.
The color should be GYTR model. Really love it.
Yamaha's racing blue color or black (stealth look) would look great on your motorcycle ❤
You should see if the track guys have some of the stock parts since they're probably often pulling these stock parts off to replace them with the race parts.
I love watching these vidoes. I had an R3 last summer. Bought it smokingly dirt cheap. It was basically brand new. It inky had 2999 miles on it the day i put it in the bed of my truck. It still had stock oem tires with hairs on them! All for $3000 usd (i forget sometimes your at the bottom of the world!) I watched your last vid the road trip one with you and your GF. You need to totally come to Colorado and ride dude! None of that ridding on the wrong side of the road stuff here! No cops stoping ya and checking your papers lol. The Mountain roads here in colorado are killer, twisty and windy. Just mind the sand/ rocks in the corners from winter months. I sold the R3 in the fall last year and bought a brand new ‘24 honda crf450rl, basically street legal motor cross bike! Im gunna super moto it. And be able to switch back and forth of it want to do any off-road trips and dirt road riding. I miss the R3. It was a lot of fun. Quick, lightweight, and nimble. A great beginner bike. Id recommend one for anyone wanting to learn and get better! An r6 is just to much to learn on and an r1 is not for the faint of heart. I got my eye on a new Honda cbr500rr at the Honda dealer down the road here in grand junction colorado. Plan a USA colorado ride trip dude! It would be epic! You’d see and ride places and do things you couldn’t even imagine there in south Africa (?) Id take ya up Pikes Peak. The infamous Pikes Peak hillclimb road? Of oh ya, all the way up to 14,500 feet(ish) Theres more off road dirt roads and trails to ride than you could do in lifetime. Id take you on Schofield pass from crested butte colorado to marble colorado. Eat at the bbq joint and then ride back up and around thru ‘lead king basin’, all in an after noon. Go for a ride on CO highway 92 thru the ‘black canyon of the Gunnison from delta colorado thru Crawford and Hotchkiss Colorado across the blue mesa dam to Gunnison Colorado. Id be afraid you would be able to keep your eyes on the corners or the road! You’d be looking at the Mountains and the scenery and not paying attention to ridding! Look up some of these places! The rides are breathtaking. Colorado has it all. Desert rocky sand, forsest logging roads, sand dunes, high mountain passes and woods ridding, wide open desert ridding, twisty windy paved mtn 2 lanes, wide open 2 and 4 lane interstates that wind and snake their way over the Continental divide above 14,000 feet in elevation. Theres tracks, theres a track in Denver, CO Springs, and theres PPIR which is Pikes Peaks International Raceway which is well known. Not much into track ridding. More off-road ‘dual sport’. It makes sense to have a bike I can ride on and off the street, use to buzz around town and still get on the highways if i need to and go into town, thats why i sold the R3 for a plated street legal ‘dirt bike’. It checks multiple boxes and not stuck in just one category. Doing a supermoto makeover on it opens the door for more ‘street ridding’. Yet easily converted back by just swapping wheels and tires back and forth. Not to much trouble i say now lol. Well see what i feel after doing it a few times. The only downfall to COlorado riding is the short seasons. 3 month summers at most up at substantial elevations, which is anything 7,000 feet above sea level and up. Anything 9,000-10,000+ in elevation it can still snow 12 months outta the year! So being prepared anywhere you go is a must in Colorado!

My point being you could just walk right across and they’ll hand you a green card/ 10 year visa what ever with medicaid, a drivers license, and a cell phone, food stamps, and government subsidized housing! There just one thing you gotta do tho! They want you to vote democrat!
Try some of the michelin "definitely not slicks I promise" tyres at some point, they're unbelievable

Make it dark green. Would look awesome.
Inspiring vedio love it😍
Lekker at redstar raceway... Should meet up, 2017 kawasaki z1000 should be fun there.
I have Bridgestone S22 in my Duke 390 and they are a very good tyre when it's raining, at least in my bike.
Woohooo 🎉🎉
do not forget to get a Kickstand!
Your channel needed a litter bike ;)
that beautiful yellow
I've had s20/21/22 in Hong Kong, where it rains often, these tires are made for this weather
Just so you know I got 12,000 miles out of my S22's in the rear and 13,500 miles out of my front tire which was also a Battlax S22. Needless to say Ive ridden in the rain with those tires literally dozens of times and never had an issue. I think they are an excellent tire type for rain to be honest with you. After the S22's I went with a much cheaper Kenda and a Shinko Advance in the rear and let me just say you get what you pay for. Great tire on a budget if you need one quick but you definitely dont get the same performance from the latter of the two pair.
Make it blue like the mt 🤩
+1 sub man! 💯👌
I would custom paint it cause i have the tools and experience. If i were you id go the iconic blue scheme (even if im a sucker for red)
The anniversary yellow white black or may be custom grey or carbon with florescent yellow detail like Valentino Rossi used in his test bike
Make it black and dark blue 🎉
Yamaha blue and gold way to go
BLUE!!! If you really want to feel like Fabio you gotta go with Yamaha blue. Or you could go with Johnny Rea's winter test black (which looked totally awesome). Plus I have a set of 2018 plastics in blue I could sell for $300 but they will be shipped from Maui ($$$).
How did you mount the camera in the lid? good idea that 👍
I just leave a comment 😅 good luck 🎉
Dude. Terrifying. You're more brave than I am. If it was playing up on me, hopping around like that? On corner exit no less? Jeez Louise, I'm going home.
More in love with the R1 after seeing its naked version.
The miss matched tyres are actually okay. Ive seen many racers at the track run different brand tyres front and rear, including myself. Should have kept them on for the track day and then swap them man. but the R11 and Power cups do require warmers and alot of pace te keep the heat in them
5:58 , Bro. You just sold me on that Go 3. I have debated using it and wearing it as a necklace so the camera is hidden from outside view, but uh.. would look like an odd bump, perhaps if I was a female and could hide the camera between two chest pockets that also contain random dollars, cigarettes, lighter, and whatever else people like waitresses stuff in there. Anyways.. but hiding the Go 3 in a helmet? THAT IS BLOODY AWESOME! I hope you seriously showcase how about you went mounting it there.
*Kitchen aluminum foil over the exhaust during an oil change is a life saver. Chill video. :) .......Oh... ....a bright and sharp [cool/blue in the color spectrum] pure white. No graphics.
Amazing woohoo ❤
Track day availability in SA : I am the only guy in my group C 👍🏼…, in the UK: every group on any track day is fully booked (around 50-60 riders per day) until October (6-7 months in advance) 🤬 I am moving away as soon as it possible!!!😜

I would match the colour with the Dad's bike...😌
If you put some aluminium foil over your exhaust headers when changing oil you can minimize the amount of oil that gets on there.
Blue, yamaha blue. Its always the best color for yamaha and their trademark.
Awesome.
I vote for painting it the YZF-R1 World GP 60th Anniversary Edition white with the red stripe and black accents.... or better yet, the old 1970's TZ750 yellow with black strip and accents.
You could have put something on the headers to avoid rhe oil falling on then 😅 i bet they smoked a bit afterwards 😂 Awesome bike anyways... ✌️
Also voting for a red and white R1
