The montage of your cabbage patch kids doing stuff in those photos was so adorably wholesome and reminds me of things I did with my toy when I was a kid. I was born in 1996 and while I'm a 1990s kid your video makes me cry because I miss being a kid 😢 thank you for keeping the 1980s alive. I love the cabbage patch kids they are still adorable and cute. I hope one day Toys R Us can come back.... being an adult sucks. Thank you for having such a beautiful soul in this dark world. 😊 I hope the optimism of the 1980s that you helped bring can come back someday.

That's funny, our daughter is close to your age (born in '98) and she also did similar things, like creating little movies with her dolls. I worry about kids today, that screens are taking up too much of their time instead of allowing them to use their imaginations, sigh.

@@Our80sLife I 100% agree that kids today are spending too much time on phones and ipads instead of going outside and playing with other kids :( but I still have hope that kids can be allowed to be kids. :D Problem is many adults want to try to force kids to grow up instead of letting kids be kids. :) If I could recommend a movie you guys should watch The Captain Underpants Movie because it reminds me of being a kid and has beautiful themes on why childhood is so important. :) Always have hope and believe Abby I do believe things will get better. :D

I had 2 Cabbage Patch Kids. They came with name's but we could change them if we wanted to, if we did we would get a new birth certificate with the new name on it. In Australia getting a Cabbage Patch Kid was so easy. I went to K-Mart with my sister and my mum and the toy area had floor to ceiling Cabbage Patch kids, they were everywhere, and no one else was in the toy area, so my sister and I chose which ones we wanted and we got them for Christmas. My sister and I still have them.

I loved this video! I only have three. My Dad got me a little read head named Lily back in the 80s and I still have her. Last August I found a really sweet smaller 14 inch cabbage patch doll in the clearance bin for fifteen dollars so I had to of course get her. Her name is Edith. About three weeks ago for my birthday I recently adopted a 20 inch directly from Babyland because I've not been well. I named her Wednesday since I got to choose her name. She has been my constant buddy through being ill and stuck inside during these very uncertain and scary times. I'll always love these sweet babies! They bring a lot of joy to many people's lives of all ages. Your collection is adorable! Be safe and take care everyone!

AKA Our 80's Life the ‘kids have their own area in the house. As far as the one of a kind theory......that was due to clothes, head molds and names. Even the kids today are labeled “one of a kind” which are clearly clones. Yet, the name and birthdates allows them to be labeled ooak.

I had two. A regular and a premie. I was happy with just two. My best friend had 4 and I thought, even as a kid that was ridiculous. I thought her mom just wanted to brag that her daughter had 4. My first came with the name Helga and I said “heck no”. In their birth certificate they had a thing where you could have their name officially changed. That’s what we did. I changed her name to Heidi and my premie was Jessica. I still have them as well. Heidi’s hair still smells like baby powder. I LOVE that Cabbage patch smell !! Sooo 13 that’s over the top😬

As you can see, I still treasure them. They're so adorable! I can't believe yours still smells like baby powder... I love that smell too! Did you ever wear that perfume called Love's Baby Soft? these dolls originally invented by a women named Martha Nelson, who she was sewing them up and calling them her "doll babies" aka "little people", they started out as cloth faces and then Robert Xavier took her idea and made them originally he had a lady sew them up as well, but then he started having them made in a factory after copy right. This Martha should be given credit for our cpk craz!!!! oh my gosh yes they smell sooo good, like baby powder with like soft chocolate sent mixed in too is only way i can describe it.

Thank you! i had 2 a red head with pacifier and beautiful like really pretty blue dress like turqious blue thick fabric with ruffles on edges, and a corn silk i got in dec 1986 named Alison mae with a yellow dress and tiny pink flowers thicker fabic then the preemie close as well. I love yr video guys. i lost my mom 24 yrs ago so im trying to find some again. Unfortunately i gave my red head cabbage patch to my cousin i considered a little sister bc she never had 1 and she lost her! do you guys remember the "tender heart bear", too with a real beating heart and the care bears and my little pony craz? Thank you for doing your video! now all we need is a set of twins. Thanks guys.

Looking back to 1983 not even sure where I heard about them or why I wanted one. Maybe classmates at school or the news? My mother saw them in the store like a whole wall of them and thought they were ugly LOL. Then like the next day I told her I wanted one. She said you want that thing? Really? She went back and of course they were gone. So she called around to different stores and of course at that point they were sold out (I believe that was the fall of 1983). So we ordered one before Christmas through a catalog/mail order company Montgomery Wards. It finally came in late March or April the following spring. Only choice we had was boy or girl and white or black doll. They actually came in a brown cardboard box with Cabbage Patch Print on it. Not the pretty yellow one with cellophane window. Also missing on mine was the powder scent. I believe as they were making them fast at that point to try to keep up with demand. But I loved my doll and still have her and her box. I remember carrying her everywhere I went. We couldn't find like any Cabbage Patch official girl doll clothing so we went to a Carter's outlet and bought some real baby clothing. What was funny was other girls and mothers were there for the same reason. The original dolls had the black signature on the butt (which mine does). Then the years after were a different color signature. My second doll was Christmas 1984 I wanna say it had a dark green signature.

My favorite cabbage patch memories were, 1. receiving one as a Christmas gift. 2. playing outside of course with my friends and their cabbage patch dolls. 3. Rescuing one I found outside, She wasn't dressed and was really dirty. I remember taking her home and giving her a bath with zest soap. I named her Erica. These dolls brought so much joy to children. I’m 40 and all of my childhood toys were lost. However, when I found out I was having a girl I made it a goal to find all my childhood toys to “pass on” to her. She now has 4 vintage cabbage patch dolls the same carrier as you and a few clothes but it’s hard to find the accessories now. She even has one of the crimp and curl ones lol. Tons of barbies, MLP gen 1, popples, rainbow brite, strawberry shortcake, and so much other stuff from the 80’s lol.

I missed the hype of the original CPKs, but not the fun of playing with them. Family members who bought them as "investments" in the '80s gave them to us kids in the '90s. I ended up with 2 girls, plus a "baldie" I found secondhand. Since none of mine had their adoption papers, I named them Ruth, Mary, and George. Mary was my favorite due to her "mini me" haircut (a pony tail and bangs). She also has a tan complexion- unusual for toddler dolls of that era. My sister and I would buy used baby clothes for our CPKs and play all day. Sometimes, we'd come up with something really elaborate, like a playground or a dinner theater. My sister had a CPK and a similar doll that looked just like Beverly and Picard, so we played Star Trek a lot. Then came the Beanie Baby craze - Ooo boy! I called the mall every day for two weeks to find out when their shipment was coming in so I could buy Doby the Doberman (renamed Maria). George has gone on, but Ruth and Mary are still in my parents' basement, wearing the pink dresses my grandma crocheted for them over 25 years ago. I think I could find them pretty quickly if I wanted!

I love it!! My friends and I totally did that stuff too, except for playing Star Trek, LOL! We also dressed them in secondhand baby clothes and even carried them with us to the grocery store. Our favorite was creating little scenes, posing them, and taking pictures. So fun! The Beanie Baby craze started around the time our daughter was born, and my mom bought loads of those things for her. I can see why they were so popular, they're super cute! Thanks for stopping by our channel and sharing your memories!
