This is my journey as an indie game developer, from playing around with Python during my studies to working on my first Steam release.
It"s been a long road, and I'm really excited for what the future holds!

Cool video, happened to find this probably because I'm in the middle of working through the Kitchen Chaos tutorial, it has been great for learning, I don't plan on turning it into a different game, but hopefully your Hellspresso game does well.

So cool! Good luck on your project! I’ve always been interested in game dev since I was little and started a few projects through the years, but I have so many hobbies it’s hard to find enough time for everything 😅

Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I feel like mine's been all over the place since I technically work on games, but not exactly, for a living (I helped work on a Unity VR multiplayer game for the last year at work for example, but only on specific systems like scene transition, audio and voice chat system, and implementing decoupling methods for our event channel system, etc.). I used to make little game demos that were like attemped fan games in Game Maker back in the late 2000s when I was around 13 years old, but I've never really "finished" my own game. I've wanted to diversify and learn more good game programming concepts that I have sort of used but may not have a 100% solid understanding of, etc. The biggest thing I realized is just to stop worrying about "knowing" certain concepts and actually "making" things. With the Unity debacle, I also realized, I want to diversify my pallet in game engines and concepts, so I've been learning Godot on the side as well. It's well-suited to 2D games especially, and I feel I could at least work with that even if I have no art skills because at least I can actually "make" assets as I try to make things more from scratch and focus on my programming skills where my background in CS helps more. I like how Godot kind of forces me to think of games in a new way too, just like how I love learning languages and each one helps me understand language as a whole better. Now I live out of the country, have a baby on the way, and am self-employed, and everything is new, but exciting in a way. Making games on the side, even small ones, I feel is my next step forward to deepening my understanding and getting better and more diverse experience. Lesson learned: Everyone's game development journey may look very very different. It may not be focused, or take you in different directions than you expected. Heck, I've been making WebAR games technically with 8th Wall and AFrame for the last 2 years, but even that's helped me understand the many similarities between game engines and frameworks. That may come in handy some day for personal projects too. Also, I love watching Valem's Unity VR tutorials, and I noticed since he's also French, he pronounces "Engine" the same way as you do. I actually really find it charming, so I don't want you to think I'm insulting your pronunciation since I very much understand it. :) Language is a beautiful tapestry with many different colors and angles brought to the table.

This is great work! I actually came across your channel because of CodeMonkey talking about it in one of his videos. Really cool how you were able to expand on example taught in the course, but I had no idea you had so much programming background. Really interesting to hear about your journey so far!

Consider this: If you do Devlogs, you target other Programmers. They probably watch your videos to learn something, but they will not buy your games. If you want to market your game, target gamers. That means, do videos where you show the coolest stuff of your game that gamers like. Dont talk about code or other boring stuff. Talk about the best mechanics, awards, the fun things and so on. Anyway, best of luck.

Thanks for the advice, that's what I plan on doing! But I also wanted to do a more generic video just to show my progress over the years. This one is more for programmers/indie devs than gamers.

@@ElianeGameDev If I was you, I would also make another channel that would target gamers instead of using the same channel. So that the algorithm knows who to suggest your channel too.
