I wasn't expecting to see Drahmin on here..... He's not my favorite character by any means. But I'm glad he got some fans out there in the wild

I sorta imagine Havik as a specialist character focused in out-of-the-box playstyle. A way like Yoshimitsu is played in Tekken.

I think Ashrah would fit in given her lore that's more intriguing than others. I do really enjoy Hotaru, Mavado, and Dairou. Honestly just some Red Dragon acknowledgement would be nice.

Was so happy to see Drahmin included, he always stood out to me as a cool design with a lot of potential. It's a shame Ed Boon supposedly hates him, which makes his inclusion in any future MK games unlikely. Fully agreed with this list overall. Of all the ones listed, I want to see Sareena and Havik again more than anybody else. Love those two.

​@@kingofdragons7 It's a "guy" whose skin looks like flesh and muscle that seems human at first yet is clearly inhuman and almost stone-like, an iron club surrounds one of his hands, flies swarm around him and his mask is that of an Oni. Bone pokes through many parts of his body in varying degrees and his only "clothes" are essentially those of a gladiator, with his underwear being leathery and only having a shoulder armor piece, held together with a belt. He looks like an monstrous gladiator. I do like his design and I think it's a lot more than "guy with underwear and dumb mask". Also, his mask is just that of an Oni; I like Oni masks, honestly, and its meaning to his character makes it more interesting.

Havik is officially back and looks incredible.

It is so good to see Hotaru being recognized. I am hoping he will make it into MK1. Li Mei, Ashrah, and Shujinko would be great too

I have a lot of love for deception. And found it kind of disapointing that its characters never got the love that a lot of 4 and DA's characters got. Love to see shujinko, onaga, ashra, havik, and maybe round it out with Nitara from deadly alliance.

My first exposure to mortal kombat was with mk deadly alliance when I was really young and idk why but I really loved movado, when I got older and knew about the story I started liking ashrah a lot and she’s still my favorite 3D era character

I could see Sareena taking MK9 Skarlet's moveset in MK1 given her main use of knives and such. Maybe some Sonya in there with demon form being used like a military stance or other facet

Don’t get why so many characters get hate. What’s the difference between a monster character like drahmin and baraka? If they swapped eras I think people would hate baraka the exact same.

Because clubs and flies and flayed skin are ugly. His color palette is ugly. His design is somehow more homoerotic than any other male MK character. He never says or does anything interesting. I'm pretty confident that he only made the #5 spot in the video to provoke comments. Baraka has blades and spikes and sharp teeth, which are all much more appealing to most people. He's pretty ugly, but if you really want to know why people like Baraka's design, just put a picture of him, and a picture of a 3D era ninja side by side.

@@hiondubs Barajas color pallets is bland. No one cares about the uglinesses either. Dude looks like a cool monster with a creepy mask. Way cooler design than characters like Kano, Sonya, Nightwolf, Kabal, Stryker, Jax and arguably many more.

Me neither. Drahmin might not be my favorite character but i respect the fact that he's a unique monster character that isn't yet another Innocent ninja thurned evil, random human but edgy or yet ANOTHER outworld rep. (can we please get a new character from other realms besides outworld?!)

Drahmin and Havik for sure! But I'd also be really interested in how they could reinvent Onaga

So about Serena having a demon form in a modern MK game.....

Always have to go with my boy Kenshi, as well as Havik, Frost, Hotaru, and Ashrah. Honorable mentions go to Nitara and Taven.

Hotaru could be great as a heavy bruiser who bullies you with strong attacks from outside your reach, a brutal sort of "melee keep-away" where his aim is to keep you at the tip of his naginata (Which could have a damage sweetspot, doing more damage if you hit with the blade compared to hitting with the shaft) and bully you with powerful attacks and pressure. Give him tools to counter projectile-spam so he can force you to fight at his range as well as an engineered weakness to very close range speedy hits (Only way to beat someone with a polearm is to get inside their range, which is quite hard IRL and should be in game as well). His gameplan should be to force you into his range where he can crush you with raw power.

My favorite 3D era characters: 1) Nitara (cool vampire character) 2) Frost (cool evil female Sub-Zero) 3) Havik (cool design and lore, also we need a Chaosrealm rep again along with Orderrealm) 4) Onaga (interesting idea and concept and I want him back as a major villain) 5) Taven (very mixed on the guy but honestly, I was attached to him and his story and he had his moments even if he's one of the boring MCs in the franchise) Honorable mentions: Li Mei, Hotaru, Shujinko (and Mokap)

@@Mextlatec I know he's a dumb idea but he's a cool concept behind the scenes reference that a lot of fans don't know or acknowledge because everything else is stupid or underwhelming. He's honestly one of the most overhated characters I've seen and it's kinda silly. I'd personally love to see him back but revamped.

Hotaru was the one character in deception i didnt unlock as a kid which is sad because i always thought he was so cool. I hope i get that chance to finally play as him soon

I love Havik. Seeing him in Joker's MK11 ending was so cool

I did love to see what they did with Havik in the mkx comics

I would take out Dramhim for Ashrah. I really like the idea of demon from the netherrealm redeeming herself and trying to help others do the same

I've always wanted to see how Ashrah, Nitara, and Li Mei would perform outside the 3D era, but recently, I've taken a huge interest in Hotaru. Your points about his build and weapon choice are a big reason why, along with the potential of his interactions with Liu Kang in MK1 - I can see Hotaru working alongside or against him. It could go either way.

Always love to see love for [your #2 pick], and for Ashrah in the comments. Two of my three favourites of the DA/Dec/Arm era. The other is Li Mei - how cool a concept is an Outworld freedom fighter? Her existence adds so much texture to the setting and gives us a closer to the ground perspective than the nobles and generals we usually follow. I'd love to see a game where she leads a rebel army resisting Shao Kahn's rule, or serves as an advocate for the native Outworlders in Kitana or Kotal's court.

My favorite 3D era character is shujinko cause of his design and story really sticking with me as a kid, I would love his jack of all trades play style and old man look in a modern title

I agree with the list so much, but for a number 6, I want Darrius. I want the return of his fatality where he rearranges your body parts

I think hotaru and havok could play like there lore so hotaru moves get to the point and maybe control in a simple to learn way and then havok can play more crazy and strange so it harder to learn him

That's exactly the thing - a character is only as bad as you let them. Marvel didn't have movie rights to their big space characters, so they had to pull a D-tier team like Guardians of the Galaxy and made them mainstream.

8:22 After the Banished trailer, where Sareena shows her demon form as a Kameo is kinda poetic! Unfortunately she isn't playable in both forms (for now), but like Reptile in MK 1 she might have the same gameplay mechanics if she's ever to become playable in the New Era games. 7:40 it's kinda fun to see Sareena fight Havik.

Johnny Cage has that star meter that let's him do poses and recover faster in MK1. I could see Havik having a similar mechanic like him cracking his limbs to buff his attacks or something.

I saw this crazy concept art of drahmin, depicting what they would want him to look like in a new game, and they made look sorta pyramid head like, but instead of it being a pyramid it was like this really wacky looking thing idk was sick would love to see something like that

i think a big reason why the channel doesn't get much love is because most of the mk community seems to care more about lore and story, so channels like ketchup and mustard's which mainly focus on gameplay get less attention unfortunately :(

Hotoru is my #1 3D Era character I want back. So cool - such an underrated character

While her gameplay was just clone based, I think Kira deserves more love in terms of lore from the 3D era. An anarchist, mercenary and disguise artist who gives Kabal's new Black Dragon an actual goal and philosophy to strive for, something that could tie in to Havik's goals pretty well.

The human demon switch thing aged really well

I really want Shujinko to return as a playable character. you can have so much potential especially if they do variants design wise of young, middle age, and old man Shujinko based on how much he grows

It will be interesting to see if NRS ever gets back to expanding the MK cosmology again. Ideas like the D&D alignment realms, the vampire realm, etc. were at least new to the series and not just another reboot or reimagining of the 2-D peak monetizatlble nostalgia era.

Really nice video Ketchup. There is not a poor character on this list and I would be delighted for any or even all of them to be a part of Mortal kombat 1.

Hotaru was one I never liked but I think it’s because there were three playable characters from Seido. He’d be really interesting if you gave him more agency and maybe played up his rivalry with Havik.

I was expecting to see those 5, since those + Kenshi are the characters that almost everyone talks fondly about when it comes to the 3D era. Personally, I’m hoping Kobra and Mavado could be given the “Stryker” treatment. I do feel they have potential to be cool and fun to play if they are redesigned/rewritten well.

There are alot of 3d characters that could be way better if they had redesigns, and I would also agree with you on Kobra and Mavado. With Kobra, instead of ripping from Ken, they could try to model him from Cobra the space pirate. There is some cool fanart of Mavado by Jiggeh, that gives off dark biker vibes. I think that design embodies a modern mavado.

I was so convinced that Kenshi was gonna take the second place, so happy to see appreciation for my boy Hotaru! DYING to see him return in some official capacity lol

I feel for story purposes Sareena is probably the best fit with the new game. It would be fun to see her take a genuine evil route and take on the revenant Liu/Kitana roles from the mkx/mk11 alongside Sub.

My #1 most wanted 3D character to be explored in modern games is Ashrah. A demon gaining purity through a holy relic weapon, slaying her own kind has soooo much potential. She can even form a bond with Sareena and we can see a team-up between 2 Demonic ladies aiming to better their own existence. Especially in a setting like MK1 where teamwork is already a great influence on gameplay, and likely in story. If I can have Ashrah playable and Sareena kameo, I'll have my mains all set. Your list is fantastic. I like all 5 of them, especially Nitara, Drahmin, and Havik. My list would look like yours, but I'd probably swap Hotaru for Sareena personally. For the story and greater public though, having Hotaru and Havik as opposing forces just makes too much sense to not include.

@@LuxuFoo 17 years! I love Kenshi, but only he's really gotten the love. Fixing up Deadly Alliance-Armageddon fighters is long overdue. Even Kai and Jarek can be overhauled into being super cool and unique upgrades. This is indeed an exciting time to be a 3D era fan in the better modern landscape!

Anyone else miss these games like I do? Hotaru, Sareena, Havik, Nitara all so godly. Special Shoutout to Shujinko and Fujin too (Shujinko was no doubt my main in these games lol) I also liked Li Mei alot as a character but she didnt stand out much.

With Darius getting a kameo appearance, we’re going to see representation of Orderrelm and chaos realm stuff, specifically because the kind of deep red/maroon cloth the bad guy henchmen seem to be wearing could be wearing Havok’s colours.

Pretty much the list I would go with, except I would put Onaga instead of Drahmin. I don't care if Onaga comes only as an unplayable boss, just to see him again in gameplay form would be for awesome. Now I won't call the 3D a forgotten era, not even "almost", it's just that it's not as popular as the Arcade era or the NRS/WB era, but it's still fondly remembered by many.

I want Meat, Mokap, and Havik to come back the most.

Drahmin and Meat need to show up again simply because all the stuff you can do with them in the current engine. All gross-out details you can have on these guys. And I will always say Dairou needs to come back because of his look. He's just staight up out of some wuxia movie. He looks more Shaolin monk than Liu Kang ever did. His backstory did not fit him at all, but the look was great.

Hotaru is REALLY good and I have yet to see any of my friend ever mention him as a returning character, his visual design is incredible and a space control heavy character with amazing normals is something MK doesn't really have much of as far as I remember

I wish the newer games stuck with the creepy atmosphere the 3D era had. It was truly original almost a character in itself.

Terminator does that in mk 11, fight his human form then if he has meter, his skin comes off and turns into his machine form (this is a info when you were talking about Sareena)

I’d really like Hotaru and Havik be rewrote as the Gods of Order and Chaos. As a juxtaposition to Shinnock and Ceterion being Decay/death and Prosperity/Life. Additionally; Sereena and the other 2 Netherrealm assassins. You could have one mostly demonic, one mostly human, and the third be more like Summoner Quan Chi. Calling in other demons to aid her. A personal favourite of mine is Mavado. Keep the overcoat, redesign the very have trousers. The idea of a modern take on him, really lean in to his grapple hooks as a tool for mobility (to close distance, to space back out to stay safe… et al) is fun

Finally my girl Nitara getting the recognition she deserves. She's SUCH a cool character, I loved her the moment I first saw her.

I'm throwing Mavado into the mix. Have him be a polar opposite of Kano. Instead of Kanos thuggishness, Mavado has elegant, strategic movement. Like the dichotomy between Vega and Balrog in SF. Maybe play into his Spanish inspiration and give him a more matador inspired style, a la Raphael from soulcalibur
