    This is a really unique channel. They are lots of channels dedicated to locomotives of auto restoration but there is a real lack of channels talking about uk wagons. I like these classic wagons, there very charming.

    Hi Ollie...In my day, many, many years back, I remember those hooks were being used for ropes to secure tarpaulin sheeting meant to keep the goods dry and feeling them for tightness. Great to see you taking on saving another vital piece of rolling stock saving it from scrap, you're a brave man!! Wish there were more like you, and thanks for doing what you do. 👍

    Really superb channel, I've enjoyed the brake van up to now can't wait for the boxvan & the tube wagon over the coming months. I did notice a glimpse ofa brake van that was in a real poor state maybe another one for future project , keep up the GOOD work 👍 . Can't wait.

    My brake van brakes are 90% complete so the next video from the brake should be the last of the brake rigging before I finally get on with something different!

    Fantastic. Just at the point about the hooks. They are for tying down loads. They would also be used to secure tarpaulins over any other potential loads that would go in that may be required to be covered from the elements

    Please explain why it is called a tube wagon. Did it originally carry pipes etc?

  • @Flymochairman1
    @Flymochairman1 Жыл бұрын

    It's good to see it all dry and workable, Ollie. A relief at least. Rigging air-brakes sounds like a lot of piping but if it brings it up to the CVR's running requirements, all power to your elbow! Thanks for the post. Keep safe Ollie. Cheers!

    The hooks on the underside were used for tying the ropes on the tarpaulins if the wagon needed to be covered. These would carry a variety of different loads - not just tubes and pipes.

    Hi Ollie Another wagon project! you must like hard work too much, lol. Is there any more videos on the box van coming soon or are you trying to finish the brake van first, you are taking on a lot of work but then someone has to do it, lol. Good luck with this and no doubt more future wagon projects. Its nice to see your work come to fruition, by the time you have a rake of 5 or 6 wagons they will look fantastic, being pulled along by a loco. 👍👍

    The metal plate on the planking at about 5:40 is likely just a patch put in to cover a hole in a rotten plank. Your brave in trying to air fit this wagon. I would have thought the design of the handbrake mechanism precludes this from being converted. The Axleboxes are definitely BR replacements. Originally it probably had split boxes where the bottom half drops away for servicing

  • @WardleRestorations

    @WardleRestorations

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes the axle boxes were changed when BR took it over. The wood behind the metal plate is fine so it can't have been patchwork
