I want to keep in mind that your style is what you wear every day. It's not three words, it's not a fantasy self, and it's not a Pinterest board or a wishlist of garments-to-be, but rather the clothes you put on your body each day. This year I intend to make sure my theoretical style aligns with the way I actually dress.

I made so many mistakes buying clothes for my fantasy self. I decluttered so many dresses and high heel shoes I never wear. I kept only what I would truly wear. Comfortable shoes are a must.

Thank you for feeling safe enough with this community to share such difficult personal details, Alyssa. I admire your energy, your style and your committment to your slow fashion ethics. My mantra this year is 'to be brave and to be bright'. I've been a 'black, navy, grey and white' girl for as long as I can remember, but I'm going to be 60 this year and want to embrace it - the bravery and brightness are as much about personal energy as about getting out of my fashion rut and my aim is to move into this new decade without apology - that's the theory, anyway :)

I decided to wear things that I’m unsure about. Did it today with a dress actually, it made me realize that I want to donate it. It seems that I have to wear something for A WHOLE DAY before I can decide how I truly feel about it. 😂 Gonna do it at least once a week as a way to start decluttering this year. So far I’ve removed 3 garments that someone else can enjoy.

Taking clothing for a test drive is important, since we have to live in them (not just model them in a brightly lit, temperature controlled dressing room)! I'm the same way with shoes (Anyone else find that you can try on comfy footwear in-store, but the moment it comes home with you it irritates some (previously unbothered) part of your foot, lol?) It's annoying (but understandable) that you can't return stuff after trying it on outside, but I make sure not to get rid of anything that the new item is supposed to replace until I'm *sure* it fits well. Whenever I make mistakes though, I'm just thankful there's a market for 'once worn' reselling & donations 😅😅

Dear Alyssa, My heart and prayers go out to you regarding your divorce. I have wondered over the last year because the background changed, and you never mentioned your husband anymore, plus your rings were gone. I love your channel, your creativity, and your spirit ❤️. And of course you experimented with your style! You had to figure out who you were now, as a single woman! I went thru the same after my divorce. May your new year be blessed with joy, health, abundance and love ❤️ .

I recently downsized my life....really....everything! Left the big house behind, etc. So that meant downsizing my wardrobe. Last week I actually pulled everything OUT of my closets. Did the usual... What I do wear, What I don't and need to donate, and put those rare occasion clothes in the air tight bags and stored away. Then I organized one part of the closet for everyday casual, the other side for dressier days. It seems to work better that way for me! LOL....left side "I'm staying home", right side "I'm going out!"

I'm doing a just five "new" things this year and it's already (one month in) a game changer for me. No constant browsing, no thinking about what to buy, no hassling with returns. If I'm only getting 5 new things for the year, they have to be amazing, and can also be more investment type pieces than I would let myself buy in the past. I think this may be a way of life for me as eventually over time I'll have a tiny wardrobe of just the most intentional pieces. Divorce is hard, I've been there, but it can also be a transformative time to reevaluate all your priorities and intentions for your life. I hope the year brings you joy, peace and clarity.

I have also accepted that if I'm bloated and feeling *ugh*, I can wear a pair of sweats and a t-shirt without guilt. There's nothing saying that I can't do some styling tweaks with comfort in mind - and after the tweaks, I tend to feel more put-together even in my comfy clothes!

I wish you nothing but the best for 2024 and I am going to be here for a long time, growing with you. For my wardrobe, I love the juxtaposition between modern, almost futuristic cuts and styles while having the "classic" base of red lips/nails, glossy waves, and classic, clean skin and makeup. Your line about wearing button ups since age 5 made me laugh out loud. 😂 I’m approaching this year with a mindset of plenty so that a no/low buy feels intentional rather than restrictive. I feel fantastic and confident with what I have in my closet and the shopping FOMO isn’t even an issue like I thought it would be. Also my styling creativity has increased!!!! I’m having so much fun figuring out an outfit with what I have. In December I sat down and listed the items I want to buy this year to added to my closet. It’s nice to have a plan so I don’t over consume again this year.

My 2024 words are Inspiration, abundance, and gratitude. I tidy my closet regularly, refresh it seasonally, and track outfits for 2 week blocks randomly throughout the year. I shop exclusively second hand. This year my goal is to raise the quality level and focus on core neutrals that ALL work well together. My style has also been clear from a young age. My words are elegant, crisp-fresh, form fitting. My lifestyle is ActiveCasual, Dressy for church and date night! Watching your video and writing this comment has really helped me to focus in on these ideas.

After the birth of my daughter (who is going to be 5 very soon), I kinda lost my personal style. I was living in leggings and sweatshirts (Covid didn't help), and focusing completely on her and really nothing on me, which is not a healthy mindset. I've spent the last year and a half trying to find my style again and letting myself feel ok with being more than just a mom. Thanks for helping me on that journey. One of my challenges for myself this year is to make 75% of the clothes I buy second hand. I always joke that 75% of my wardrobe is thifted, but this year I'm tracking it and shooting for that goal. Also, when thrifting, shopping with specific items in mind and not just buying random things I find because "it's only $5, why not".

my intention is to be really really picky when I shop for clothes xD and I mostly mean from the practical side and how comfortable something is. lately, I've just been noticing things in my wardrobe that don't fight quite right or are uncomfortable in some way and I just don't want to wear them. I've already been trying to be very picky when buying clothes, but sometimes there is something about an item that makes me wanna buy it despite it being slightly uncomfortable and in the moment I tell myself that it's not that bad. but I know that if I take it into my wardrobe I won't want to wear it so long as there are more comfortable options available.

Happy 2024 dear Alyssa 🖤 I worked for a designer for almost eight years and startet on the 2nd of January a new journey. My new work environment is a little bit more conservative as I work now for a world famous venue for classic music. I lean now more into tailoring and formal dressing. I always loved tailored pants (don't own jeans) yet enjoyed my leather leggings and trainers. So I bought two suits (new but as responsible as possible), a pair of Max Mara wool trousers and a stunning wool blazer secondhand. I can now mix and match and I am very curious how my "work style" will evolve in 2024. And my leather leggings with a good old band tshirt will be used for nights out 🎉

Having lived in the woods on a lake for the last 3 years, I've gone a little bit over board (not too much) thrifting, now that I've moved to a city for this winter (I do think though that my wardrobe needed a bit of a refresh😊). Having said that, I've also realized that because my mom taught me about quality fabrics and classic pieces, and because I grew up dressing up for more occasions, I've been buying more dressy items that I really need. What I've learned watching you is that I can combine a dressy item with a more casual one and it looks more interesting (such as a black pair of trousers with a denim shirt and black dress shoes). Thank you for all you give to us! May 2024 be a bombshell of a year for you!

This year I will be very intentional about what I buy, where I buy from and trying to purchase as little as possible. I usually do a no buy January and I will be culling all my wardrobe. I try to wear all my clothes in all the seasons which is challenging for us Canadians. I will be leaning a lot into my style this year which is funky boho but with a capsual twist.

My style intentions... I'm very comfortable with my style at this point. I've figured out that the way I've always dressed does well suit my body and my personality, so I haven't stuck with that simply from inertia. I don't need to buy much since what I have mostly works well already, but it's always fun to add a piece with some color, or a replacement with a little better fit, etc. I have decided to always shop 2nd-hand first for everything except underwear, shoes, and workout wear. There are several thrift and consignment stores in my community, so I have some options for that. Happy new year and I'll look forward to seeing your posts.

Happy New Year Alyssa, I love going through my wardrobe and pulling things out I don’t wear. I do it quite consistently. Especially with things in drawers. I use an app called Freeform (on iPad) to create mood/vision boards for everything creative in my life. This year I’m working on accessories, so shoes, handbags, small leather goods, jewelry. These areas need some life. I screen shot photos of handbags I own and plan to purchase along with shoes. I create a board with the app and put the bags along the middle and the shoes around the bags. This way I can get an idea of how the styles look together. I can also see where I can fill a few gaps. I also have committed to consistently adding in some color to my wardrobe. This year I purchased one burgundy sweater and one winter green long sleeve top. I will do the same once spring/summer rolls around. I try to plan what color would work with what I currently own. I probably only have two more handbags to add one neutral and one travel bag. I look forward to having a more complete wardrobe soon ❤❤❤❤❤. Have a wonderful & fun year 😊

I’m using all different resources (like Indyx cataloguing & workshop, YT videos, & Pinterest) to try to find my personal style. That way I can wear only what makes me happy, comfortable, and feel like me. I’ve decluttered 3 sacks of clothes/bags/shoes so far, and bought a longline T-shirt, an oversized lilac shirt, and some smart “fat pants” so I can still feel comfy & professional at work when I’m bloated - another intention seems to be trying to think more kindly about my body while on this style-finding quest. While I do t tend to buy much, when shopping or deciding whether or not to declutter something, I’m considering quality and material make-up (something you mentioned in a video) more carefully.

Happy New Year! I had a hint you had a life change by one sentence in one video a few months back. I do hope that 2024 brings you joy! I have learned quite a bit from your videos over the years and my personal style is coming into view. My job in state-level government calls for definite business wear, no peeking bralettes for me alas. Still, your videos have helped me be intentional in what I buy rather than just buying "businesswear" for the sake of businesswear. When I first got the job, even as COVID was still raging in 2021, my only thought was, "I can't wear loungewear," and I bought clothes without a plan. You have taught me how to develop a plan for the look and feel of my workwear. Thanks!

Hi Alyssa. I wish you love, light and peace this 2024. I always watch your videos. Just want to share my thoughts on my wardrobe plan. Coming from a poor family I’ve always practiced slow (no) fashion 😃 I didn’t buy new clothes because I couldn’t afford them, and since childhood I relied on gifts, hand me downs from my mom and borrowed clothes for my outfits.. I got through it all until I was working.. once in a blue moon I would buy second hand clothes from thrift shops. Because of that I was able to experiment on a lot of styles of clothing..I only went so far as researching what my body type was but that’s about it. The downside was that I didn’t feel I was in control of my closet and how I dress, and that I was sometimes wearing colors or clothes that didn’t fit me properly. It was only recently that I became interested in style and fashion, and slowly I was able to figure out what I want.. when I could already afford it I was shopping for a lot of clothes but there were still hits and misses.. but by watching your channel I became more focused on style advice that made sense. Now I’m more mindful of my purchases and i could feel proud of my closet now which is filled with clothes that I know I will wear for many years and is true to my style. My plan for this year is to continue curating my closet and expressing my style more with every outfit I create. Cheers!

I bought a lot in 2023 after a few years of very low buy I invested in great timeless pieces that will last forever, both clothes and footwear. But now I am getting a bit sick of buying, I have enough clothes and I don't even go out that much (freezing here in London so staying indoors with pussycats). So I'm ready for no-buy 2024 and possibly beyond, I don't need anything and I'm ready to style and enjoy the wonderful pieces I have. At 57 I want to wear (out) what I have, I don't want to wear an outfit just once or twice, I want my new jeans to mould my body and look lived in rather than brand new. My motto is restyle, rewear, relove. My style has stayed quite similar to what I was wearing in the 70s and I love this vibe.

Great video. Thank you, Alyssa! I think my style intentions are to play more with colour and to dress up a little more. My lifestyle changed during the pandemic to working full-time from home, so I got into a style rut. As for no-buy, I'm a bit late to the party, but will do this over the next few months, with the caveat that I may buy practical items such as base layers and a neck gaiter so I can enjoy the great outdoors here in chilly Ottawa. 😃⛄Oh, and I'm going to sew more of my clothes. 🪡

There was/is something very seeker, open, and new path oriented going on. I relate and I wish you well. I've realised you constantly evolve and change in your style. What I learnt over Summer, is I love dresses...midi dresses. I can look feminine and polished without much effort (and without needing to remember to shave!). During Winter, I love wearing skinny jeans/leggings more and last year I spent so much £££ on mini skirts which I wore alot for 1 season. Now, I want comfort, warmth and ease of dressing. I'm essentially a thoughtful lazy dresser. So no more skirts this year (esp. Mini skirts, mini dresses), and I also love handbags but I get bored easily and switch up A LOT so it makes no sense me buying super luxury designer bags unless they are for functional long-term purposes. I've also started knitting to help qualm my shopping addiction lol.

Wishing you a wonderful 2024. I just finished a 10 x 10 challenge based on brown palette as my base. I'm intending to try this with a blue-black-grey 10 x 10 wardrobe experiment this winter. My main intention is to only purchase items on my priority list. Otherwise, it's going to be primarily a "no buy/low buy" year. I'm working on a fall/winter palette of camel, brown with accents of orange and/or yellow. Summer will definitely be a no-buy/low-buy season as I certainly have enough summer clothes. My habit is to shop preloved (consignment, vintage, thrift, maybe even flea market). I own most of the basics I need and want to focus on interesting accessories.

@@lynneroute1202 I think it's a kind of Styling Creativity Challenge. People often use this concept when travelling. Select 10 Pieces from your closet. You make it broad or narrow, to suit yourself. Your 10 may be garments only, with shoes, coats, purses and accessories additional. The really minimalist '10 X 10' brigade include footwear and purses in the challenge! Which is > To Make 10 Outfits From Your 10 Pieces. Alyssa has used this exercise to encourage her own creative styling skills.
