My 1st Time In Indonesia 🇮🇩 Batam 1st Impressions

I'm finally in Indonesia! Batam Island first impressions!
Previous video from Sentosa Island, Singapore ➡️ • I Can't Believe THIS I...
Join me on the journey from Singapore to Batam Island, Indonesia. Just a short ferry ride away, there is an island in front of Singapore that belongs to Indonesia. Batam Island is also a popular holiday destination for people from Singapore as prices there are way lower. I am keen to explore Batam city and then continue my journey into Indonesia from there on. Indonesia is probably the most requested country on my channel, so I am very happy and super excited to finally start an Indonesia series! Have you been to Indonesia yet? Let me know in the comments.

Wow, what an amazing start to your Indonesia series. Nice ferry ride and yeah, you can always use your Bahasa Melayu skill there. Both the languages are quite similar. Wonderful to see you interacting with the locals there...very friendly and warm indeed. How easy it's to go around with a bike taxi and that pakcik (uncle) is so helpful to offer his hand, showing you the ferry office, Kampung Bule and trying bakso, lndonesia's signature dish. Well, exploring local cuisine/food/drinks is always essential to any travel experience. Love this great episode with interesting content. Thank you very much for sharing. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure. All the best and safe travels, Ken.

I think there is a ferry service from Batam to Jakarta at Batu Ampar. The once a week ferry service is from Batu Ampar (Batam) to Tanjung Priok (Jakarta) and cost around S$29-S$45. The journey will take around 34 hours.

I think what she meant unlimited data plan is because you can still use it after 32gb but the speed will drop/slower because of fair usage, not exactly unlimited. Indonesian language is basically modified malay language, combined with other native language, Indonesian can understand 70 to 80% malay language. Have a nice stay in Indonesia 🙂

They see a foreign person and try to take advantage of you, you are too wise from so much travel , so standing up to them was great. Enjoy your stay.

From what i noticed as well, Batam seems to have changed a lot as well..... let alone COVID that as changed the landscape of many places..... Still hope you have a good time....Looking forward , take care out there...Cheers mate!

expect higher prices than normal at ferry/airport terminals. Taxi mafia controls these high traffic places, walk out alittle more outside. But if they catch the grab driver, they might beat up the driver or trash the vehicle. Do be careful if the locals start asking too many specific questions or offer to help with services, may be a nice gesture but need to be wary.

I still remember words from a tour guide telling us not to give donation to street beggars or performers because you give 1, the next comes and so on. Just stay safe & be careful. Not all electronics are expensive in Indonesia. As we have our own internationally known local brands and many international brands manufacturers here. Bahasa Melayu came from Sumatra. Men on Ringgit Malaysia and Singapore Dollar were from Minangkabau Sumatra (established Negeri Sembilan Malaysia) so is with Singapore national anthem writer and composer from Bukittinggi West Sumatra my Mother's side family. Mindanao and Manila were founded by my forefathers kings of Minangkabau Sumatra before Spaniards came.

Ride hailing (Grab, Gojek, Uber, etc.) isn't illegal in Indonesia, but it's not something which traditional taxi drivers are very fond of - mainly due to such apps "fishing" away the potential customers from them. Which kind of explains why you had the conversation at the taxi counter. I feel that it's best you steer clear of the whole "but XYZ is cheaper than your taxi" argument (especially when speaking to taxi drivers and/or their associates), so as not to cause any unwanted misunderstandings or trouble (things can - and will - get pretty ugly real fast!). But please don't let that deter you from exploring the country, as its people are warm, accommodating, and friendly! It also has rich history and culture, and really great food as well! Hope you have an enjoyable time in Batam and the rest of Indonesia!
