The eagles got the idea to this song, when they traveled to Las Vegas. In the night it looks nice, look at LA in daylight. Stranded there, lost money, also won. But the bareer between both is invisible. Once you belonged to the high class, next moment you lie in the dirt. You checked out exactly

The writers actually wrote this song while staying in a Florida hotel and it is a metaphor as you described but more specifically how fame is attractive until it costs privacy and dependence on the money and glory. Even when you want to leave- you never really leave fame so you can check out (drugs mentally not giving a damn, even death) and still never leave.

Completely wrong, my friend. It is about The Church of Satan, which became popular with Hollywood celebs back in the 1950's. It was on MISSION BLVD (The mission bells). It was nicknamed "Hotel California". You can join, but you could never leave. They couldn't kill the beast. The haven't had the holy spirit there since 1969 (when an exorcism was attempted). Etc Etc. Research it. You will enjoy the many more clues throughout the song.

The beauty of this song is that the many metaphors can be used for SO MANY situations: drugs, alcohol, fame, abuse.... So many things. Lured in by an idea, a promise, a wish, a dream, an opportunity... That turns dark and lies to you. 💯

Some of us consider this a metaphor for substance addiction and being placed into recovery ... But it's so well written , so obvious but at the same time very metaphorical , and yet the metaphors hit home so hard in such a subtle way , that the song can be relatable in many of life's walks based on your own personal experiences ... Amazing song writing here

Honestly I really enjoy seeing the metaphors different people get from this song, a lot of people get the base level of California being a place everybody usually dreams of going, just like the celebrity life, but once you get there and are lured in by all the flashy stuff like the vixens, you realize that it's not what you thought it was, and once you get in it's too late to try and go back to a normal life, as well as the substance abuse side of things, plenty of meanings can be taken and I feel like it's really up to the viewer to relate it to their own vices

I believe the song is a metaphor for being in an industry that is cult like or an industry cult. The reason is lyrics like "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969". In 1969 the satanic bible was published and the way he describes this "Hotel" where you could check out anytime you like but you could never leave. Stabbing a beast and not being able to kill it etc. Basically the entire song seems like he has signed up to something he can't get out of and being a "Prisoner". I'm actually impressed with the way you perceived the song too because it is pretty much exactly how I perceived it. California is where Hollywood is too so yeah.

When you were describing the song it made me think of the story "The Adventures of Pinocchio" and the Land of Toys. The Land of Toys is designed to look like a place where you are free to do what you want and can get whatever you want. I was at there 25 year anniversary tour in 98. What a night. There music goes straight to your soul from Hotel California to One of these Nights to Desperado to Tequila Sunrise to my personal favorite Take it to the Limit and the hits go on. Don Henley's voice is one in a million. When Glen Frye died it was devastating. They still perform but it will never be the same without Glen. They are absolute Legends. In my top 3 favorite groups of all time.

Super cool to see you go through the song then try to decipher it, and go back through and listen again to piece it all together. Can't remember if you've ever listen to a song a second time on video. nice one

So growing with this on the radio while my dad was driving from a work project I never thought about that much. Being young and still hearing my whole life; my understanding of it has always been going to a fake good paradise you first see becomes a hell you never get out of after your disillusionment. And that everyone has their own "Hotel of California".

This is sooo ironic for me. I just added this song to my Spotify play list. Have always heard it but never listened to it until very recently.

I enjoyed watching you work through your thoughts on Hotel California, and how your perspective on it changed from having only heard it in passing, to really listening to the lyrics, to going over them more in-depth. You definitely got really close to the intended meaning of the song, and after only two-ish listens! I’m sure other people have already commented about it, but the song is a metaphor for drug addiction. I personally find that it applies well to my experience with having both ADHD and depression. Anyway, this was definitely a fun video to watch, and I love seeing people explore new music, especially when they really enjoy it. I hope you have a good day!

When Stevie puts his shoulders in that head nod, he's feeling it.... You could see how much admiration for the storytelling and straight bars simultaneously he had in this one.

A spirit in the song refers to a wine. But I also think it correlates to some of the ghoulish imagery and themes also in the sound, as a sort of double. Great reaction, Stevie! 🌹

I misss driving at night with my old friends in summer with the windows down. Looking for a party in our small town, chasing girls and having a good time. Crashing parties or going to clubs. This song, a bit before my time, reminds me of those times. Waking up in strange places from time to time gathering ourselves and getting on to the doldrums of respectable life. Longing for the time to do it all again. It’s been a few decades and I still feel it.
