My 1st Call Shift as a Doctor in Residency | Day in the Life of a Radiology Resident
As a 1st year radiology resident, today was my 1st call day. The shift started at 7am and ended at 10pm on a Sunday. I love being available for patients and the health care team who needs scans done urgently to help them get better!

Interesting day life of a radiologist! Would love to see more!
I love your personality and how you stay true to your self and openly speak about your baby 🥺
Awesome! Good luck!!
I watched a docu on the history of x-rays so to see the old school x-ray backdrop light was cool! I love how overtime technology improves and makes our lives easier!!!
This was awesome!
The life looks good with multiple screens, voice recognition devices and a cute baby, even old screens. I wonder how you see the specialty of radiology in terms of living a daily life. Pros, cons?
Radiology is an awesome specialty. :) Enjoy you journey 👍
I had no idea that some programs have to call the techs in from home to scan patients! Keep on good work man! I enjoyed watching!

We love our tech colleagues! Taking premed prerequisit courses, MCAT, med school, boards, radiology residency would be at least a 10 year commitment, all on no income.
I have enjoyed your video all the way from India. Thanks for your effort.
Very helpful video :)
Ohh bro your in Rochester me tooo yes it rains 🌧️ like crazy here
Where are you that the CT tech is not in-house over the weekend? VA hospital?
Wow in Australia we don’t do call for the first ~6 months. That’s intense!
finished radiology residency about 2 years ago. fun indeed... quite a jounrey though.
That baby so cute
Whats the average case number you do while on call ?
Yo! I'm an IMG, how long is interventional radiology residency including a fellowship? & Can IMG from India get into one?
4th year med student here.. leaning towards radiology.. One of the things I worry about most is eye strain and the long sitting. I guess its possible to counter the sitting with regular exercise but how would you describe the severity of eye strain after a whole week of concentrated monitor work? Nice video very informative!

according to my ophthalmologist wife, visual acuity doesn't get worse from eye strain in adulthood (also, marry an ophthalmologist lol). the eye strain and fatigue is addressed with caffeine 😆 but yeah... it can get tough

@@MDswBaby Thanks for your reply! I had read the same about adult myopia but its good to hear from a person actually in the field. Another point for radiology then! 🥰

Am currently in 500level medical school with dreams of practicing radiology in the future. How has your journey been so far??
How do you know what to study in your free time??
I'm interested in diagnostic radiology but I'm really scared about the stress of applying to med school, getting into med school and the stress of residency. How did you handle all of that stress? And also I was wondering if you have the time to pursue any passions of yours outside of medicine. For me, music is a huge passion of mine and if I don't have the time to pursue that on the side, I will be unhappy.

Med school and residency is indeed stressful. It's tough but doable for sure. Yes there is time to do things outside of medicine, and highly encouraged to mitigate stress. Not sure what you need by "pursue" music, but it will be difficult to go to gigs or do regular performances during med school. Practicing or having jam sessions, for sure. It will be important to develop good study habits and techniques that work for you during undergrad. A lot of my hobbies got put on hold during med school, but starting to resume them now that I'm in residency. Its temporary. Good luck!

@@MDswBaby Thank you for your response, it's very helpful!
Are u always doing call shift with attendant or sometimes are u alone? Sorry for my english. Regards from Peru
@MDswBaby

in the beginning of training, you always send it to an attending. later, you are alone and doctors can see your preliminary report (which are always checked by an attending much later). good question!
Why there are no more videos you as resident?

❤️ OK bro
may i ask you how are you supposed to interpret imaging and being oncall when it’s only your first month? Isn’t like maybe it will be wrong interpretation as you are just a beginner! Im interested in DR but this idea of being oncall in my pgy1 stress me out

All of our reads are over-read by a radiologist as a R1! There are programs that release the resident's reads as "preliminary report" as early as mid-R1, which will later be over-read by a radiologist. You learn quicker than you think. It is nerve wrecking at first, but hopefully it motivates you to know your stuff.
