I really like these late '70's to mid '80's trucks. I like the setup on this "old gurl"
I work for a Freightliner dealer, 24 years now. The older FLCs and FLDs were the best trucks they ever made: hard wired, no damn electronics, no DEF, no emissions, very little plastic, rivets, and had the absolute lowest warranty claim history.

.....and that's the reason they went away. FLC and FLD shakers were solid and that doesn't make Frieghtliner any money

Awesome story, thanks for sharing! I'm running a 84 Pete 359 that was my dad's. He bought it brand new in 84, a year after I was born. Since he passed away, I've restored it completely after it sat for 15 years. I run heavy haul coast to coast and Canada. She's got just under 4 million miles on her and still working everyday.

Wow, that is awsome to hear. Keep it up.
Shew for over 30 years old she is looking good! I started with a 1989 w900 and still have her even though she doesn’t get driven everyday

Your a lucky man. That's exactly what I'm looking for. A 89 w900b flat top.
I wouldn't mind if you would've rambled a little more about that tractor. I'd listen 👂 to those old war stories about her.
This brings back memories. Thank you so much for showing her off and giving the back story. I started my career off in an 87 Freightliner and drove it coast to coast and everywhere in between and was probably the happiest I've ever been as far as trucking goes.
I had one of those ---ran it for 20 years --- what a wagon -- 2 M miles short runs--- corn down and sand back---mack-3406 cat engine 13 speed----- just like it but white--

My old girl gave me a real scare -one 4;00 am one morning ---- all of a sudden all the lights went out 60 miles per hour on a narrow 2 lane road with a load of corn --- slowed down in that moonless night --- stayed on the road just by feel ---- stooped in the center of the road --trouble shoot the lights for an hour to get it going --no traffic --- we all have stories
Great video - memory lane and thanks for sharing! For the young guys' my Freightliner had a tattle tale speedo in it to track your speed. Looked like a cuckoo clock with a door and you'd feed a round card into the speedo and it would track your speed over your driving day. I also remember when the 444 was the big thing by Cummins - injectors were like gold, not available and hopefully someone close by had a rebuild kit. Don't forget the injector cleaner kit by Cummins - a big purple liquid filled jug that was bled into the pump at high RPM.
She is beautiful .... I love your truck.... 🚚💨💨💨💨

Watching this vlog and you going over your 86 Freightliner sure brought back memories of my 88 Freightliner. Miss that girl.
You have 3k viewers because you are down to earth, real people. You aren't loud and brash like a lot of others. Your wife is a hoot, your son is great, and your daughter is nuts. I'm surprised you didn't tie her to the pogo stick a couple of times.

Awesome looking truck and besides how can we not listen to you when you're telling great stories about your family and the history of the family trucking business... I watch a lot of you truck drivers and for as long as I wanted to be a truck driver I get more motivated to take the steps and starting my career over the road, but I'm 48 years old and most of these new truck drivers are starting off young in their twenties which is a little intimidating for me as well, but I love hearing you guys and the experiences you guys go through. Driving is my passion. whens I find the courage to do it.. it will be based upon how you've lived it!

Heh, your down to earth and just laid-back. It's refreshing. You have a real family and not put on, all American. Your channel is going places because of that. As long as it remains the same you are going to keep getting subscribers. Please don't change a thing! 😁
I took my driving test in Indy for my Class A in a mid-90s FLD-120 sleeper cab provided by the state testing site.....I loved it! It had a Detroit. The evaluator was cool as hell....I was floatin' gears and doing my own thing....I think he fell asleep. PASSED! LOL
Love it🐾😊🐾
My grandfather was a trucker for 30 years. Drove a 18 wheel gas tanker locally for Sun Oil which became Sunoco and retired in '02. He passed on this year and I wish I would have picked his brain more on when he was a trucker. I admire all they you guys do.

Seams we have the same taste in trucks alot.Had an 86,same set up,called her old blue. That was a tough truck. She had the best Jake's of any truck I ever drove, she needed alot of work by the time I let her go.Sold her to a guy in Alabama.Old Blue was the pulling beast of any truck I drove. When I sold her got my W-9. Now that 475 was mean clear through, but I could get Blue stretch ed out and see nothing but tail lights. Thanks for showing us that.Later.We gone.

FWIW Freightliner does not follow that old "i" before "e" except after "c" grammar rule. I'm too old to do it, now, but I used to have some notions about becoming a trucker. Of course, the downtick is that you are bound to the truck and the rules and regulations are cumbersome. Your way of operating makes up for some of the downside and you have certain liberty to choose to take roads that may not be optional for a company operator. Getting off an interstate and following he old US highways is a nice way to breakout of the concrete tunnel zone and have a little more contact with the real folks living where they live. Love your videos and your family!
I teamed In a 84 Peterbilt with a 36 Inch coffin sleeper. Talk about tight.we had a 400 cumalong. It had a post beside the drivers seat with a Idle lock button. We used It as a cruise control also.

White letter tires, big Cummins, whooho! Great Story! My dad drove a KW with a 400 Cummins for Graves Truck line in Ks. ,then they were bought out by ANR that pulled two 48' or 3 pups on the Ks turnpike from kck to Witcha.
I love that FLC I have an 88 FLC sfa I bought to build as a memorial to my dad big cam4 13 spd 3.55s some day I’ll get her done
Thats exactly why I love a w9 on 24 tall rubber.

Love the old Freightliner...I have a buddy that has one. Not sure what year it is, but he’s had it for quite a few years. Talking about a body style...a little square, but quite the cool look. I’m really a cabover Dude, but there are some conventionals that I love, too. This is one of them. General is another one. Diamond REO is another one. For its age, it is still breath taking! 😎 I’m glad you kept it...even more so because it’s been in your family for quite some time. I’ve owned a 62 Crackerbox, 95 IH 9670 and a 51 REO (my dad’s). Trucks are in my blood...Thanks dad! Glad that you take your family in this rig...Awesome!I have 2 boys that have ridden in my cabover. Good history! Make the trip and don’t forget to enjoy the ride! God bless all of our truckers! 🥰
