Very nice thanks! Buena Vista boxset was nice but wow, hard work. My only large 45 RPM box set was of Sviatoslav Richter. Nice sound but too much work for me! It was like going to the gym! Looking forward to the collab with Stunty! This will be interesting. I came late to the live stream the other week.

Hi Michael, nice video. Good take on the subject. Your channel is really distinguished from the others with your tone, approach, and presentation, choice of themes. You did not fall in the trap that we are seeing all over with people showing “my most valuable, my least valuable, the price of my collection”, etc. this is boring and common place, nice to see you did not go into that route. Keep your great and distinguished work!

As always, a very interesting take on this aspect of collecting. I too hope that 45rpm versions will continue to be produced, as there are indeed, advantages in this format. As for the inconvenience factor, surely some extra exercise is a small price to pay for the reward in sound quality?

Gracias 💿🎶🎧

Interesting point that there’s a definite difference between rare and collectible (or expensive). I’m rather surprised at which records of mine are actually rare, but mostly due to the fact that there were so little pressed in the first place. When one does occasionally pop up for sale, they’re ridiculously priced. Beautiful bunch of records you’ve got there, Michael. I look forward to you and Stunty’s video. I always enjoy listening to you guys chat. I’m sure he’s got some really rare and obscure stuff. Thanks for the excellent vid, Michael!

What’s weird Michael, is that unless there is a contract with Bluenote you would have expected more Tone Poet and Classic series reissues to have come directly from the Music Matters catalog to have come out., because these are the titles that everyone wants. You would have also thought the Tone Poet and Classic series would have cannibalized the Music Matter sales and values, but just the opposite has occurred. That John Coltrane Blue Train will be huge when it comes out and I will buy two copies. I have that those Bob Hutchinson albums one later pressing and the Wahoo might be an original that took me a 3-4 years to get. The Coltrane Blue Train, I have a second or third pressing, it’s a NewYork Label. A lot of Coltrane’s stuff that I have is original, like his Love Supreme (the stereo and mono vesions. This is one of the most fun hobbies to be in for us older guys, it’s interesting and you have to have money in your pockets and have absolute patients, but the rewards of getting what you have sought after is just priceless. It sometimes makes you giddy. To wait for the package, get it, break it open, clean it and sit down with your favorite beverage, cigarette or cigar after plopping that needle down is what makes all of the hunt for this treasure worth it. It is guys like you Michael that make this hobby quite interesting with your reviews and interviews of the insiders and you have encouraged me to seek out more of the 45RPM titles. You are a vinyl champion. Michael did you order the Craft Recording Miles Davis, relaxing with Miles? Keep doing the yeoman’s work of this great hobby.

Thanks for the video, always interesting and informative, however I don’t understand the hype about the single sided 45rpm edition. How do you enjoy a 40mn album on 4 single discs ??? I fully understand the fact that 45rpm is superior to 33rpm for the same recording and mastering, it’s already a pain to flip and change a double 45 Lp but standing up and changing 8 times to go through a 40 mn listening session is beyond me... as the vinyl revival continues to grow, record companies will increase production capacity, press much larger releases with improved pressings and fewer QC issues. This will cause most of those audiophile releases like Music Matters, etc. to decease in value. This is definitely a pricing bubble

Sounds like you haven’t discovered the right jazz album that you can connect with and enjoy. Have you tried some of the “classics”? (Kind of Blue, Time Out, Getz/Gilberto, Moanin’, The Sidewinder, Soul Station, Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus, etc). There’s a huge variety of jazz out there, with different styles, tempos, instruments, etc. I’m sure something will click if you continue your exploration into jazz.

I wasnt surprised by anything you showed- you showed exactly what I thought you would. A bunch of really exspensive super limited from the start records. I think you showing a record with only 99 ever pressed and not affordable to even a modest amount of people makes no sense in discussing how rare it is. Those kind of records are meant to be so pricey because the label knows they will sellout pretty fast almost no matter what the price is. Yeah, still rare but its kinda a weird grey area.

You have to be careful with hot title listings. Many sellers will list high and not have item in stock and will buy or drop ship cheaper one from another site or the same site. Once select titles get into collections, they get hard to pry out. Try ebay as well! I only stand up when I listen. If I ain't movin' and groovin', it ain't good.
