MXR BASS ENVELOPE FILTER
The Bass Envelope Filter delivers classic, analog, envelope filter sounds in an easy-to-use and compact pedal designed specifically for bass. Separate Dry and Effect controls let you dial in the perfect mix of effected and direct signals, so you can bring the funk without losing the low end. Its wide range of filter tones can be shaped with the Decay and Q controls, and a simple twist of the Sensitivity knob can tailor the pedal for your attack-as well as adjust for passive or active basses. The Bass Envelope Filter's power supply circuitry is designed to withstand over-voltage or polarity mishaps, and its true-bypass switching preserves your tone in bypass mode. It's all packaged in a durable, lightweight, Phase 90-size aluminum housing for the ultimate in portability and pedalboard space-saving dimensions.

As far as I know thundercat uses the Moog MF-1 but that’s out of most peoples price range so this is a great alternative

That’s why I came here to see this video
No talk. Lots of knob turning. Love it.
he was demonstrating the depths of the sweep, that's why he's doing the one note thing.
This is great demo. No talk just demonstration.

well he can only play one style ...lol
That jazz bass sounds soooooo good. Of course Tim is a great musician. But that bass sounds killin'
Les Claypool uses this effect a lot. Might have to pick one up
bought this a couple months ago..... amazing pedal!!! especially live!! it grabs everyone's attention when the sweep gets in the sub like frequency!
If he started slapping on that piece, id have to go change
I'm so in the mood for some Tool right now!
The thing about this pedal is that you have separate "dry" and "fx" controls so you can dial in the right amount of filter sound that you need so you don't get completely lost. CHeck out Ed Friedland's video demonstrating this same pedal, and when he does his slap demonstration he turns down the effect so you can hear more of the bass. It's really usable, unlike a lot of other envelope filters without those same controls.
THIS is what Justin Chancellor uses! :D

Augustus Crane He also uses it during the guitar solo of Jambi, but he uses a guyatone bottom autowah in that song, it sounds pretty similar to this bass envelope filter though, could make for a pretty accurate substitute

I'm late to the party, but if you see them live, he uses it in songs that previously didn't have it. He kicked it on during stinkfist when I saw them last year.
That's some Thundercat shit right there

only started really listening to thundercat a couple days ago and my head is overloaded with grooviness
The best MXR bass pedal MXR ever made!
love to throw in a sub octave with that last setting
not gonna lie, when I saw "Tim" and saw a jazz bass, my mind immediately thought of Tim Commerford.
@loudfastanddirty - the separate "Dry" knob lets you dial in as much of the dry signal as you want, so you can get as much real bass sound as you need.
How this sound with a Distortion and a Octave pedal? Any video?
First pedal I ever bought!!!
I really wanna have a go on one of these pedals cuz I'm just not sure how much I like my EHX Enigma Q Balls
which one is better the micro Qtron or the MXR env filter
cool sound!
Great review, right to the point. KZreadrs take note!
That's when you'd expect a plumber to arrive at a lonely scantily clad housewife's front door...and well, you know. Fantastic sound, I want!
Just out of curiosity, how would this sound with a guitar? I'm not sure if the effect is low-frequency specific or not, or just how much of a different colour of sound you would get out of a guitar. I'm building a pedal board that I'm using for both my bass and guitar rigs, so I'm looking for gear that works well with both.

Hey man! My guitarist in my band uses this for his guitar and it sounds SOO good! Perfect replication of Jerry Garcia on Fire on The Mountain. Just watch out cuz the wave can go really low and might blow out a cheaper speaker.
Would have liked some demonstration with slap
thank you for this video. Congratulations
this pedal is a keeper , tell ya' that!
so glad to change was for this auto filter. It looks nicer even than Carbon Copy!! IMPORTANTE: What is this gig bag?? Can You buy it somewhere? So nice! - please, post url or brand name If You Could?:)
Now this is how you advertise a pedal!
Bought this pedal and sold me EBS Envelope. No contest.
sweet pedal.
Sweet gig bag ! Where can I get it ??
I might have missed it, was that gig bag identified?
Grazie emma
Pretty cool
I would but he already knows it. I'd characterize his style as funk mixed with cabaret.
What Gig Bag is that?
Oh, but that funk at the end 🙂
very cool stuff!!! :D
yeah. . that's tim. It's a good pedal, but this is all about touch. Different bass player=very different results.
I can user in Eléctric Guitar ??
How dos this sound combined with a wah pedal?
@TheGardenNoam
3 жыл бұрын
why? They are both envelope filters, a wah just manually controls to sweep rate or sensitivity like this mxr calls it
how can someone with that username not be in love with envelope filters?!
Would be nice to have a good bass player demo your gear in the future
sorry but when do you just that sound?
Still don't understand the decay and Q knobs
You know it.. damn.
Is this guy a guitarist?
I've always wondered, why is this effect called envelope filter?
@aarondavis4341

I wonder that myself
❤❤❤
This is like the Electro Harmonix Bassballs, but with this one you can do more with the frequencies.
Because it is a audio-band FILTER, whose cutoff frequency follows the amplitude ENVELOPE of the incoming signal.
theres some jacked up phase things goin on with the audio
Sir Psycho Sexy sent me! ^_^

so, to make my bass sound great i just have to be one hour adjusting my MXR, nice!

okay loudfastanddirty, we'll just go ahead and discount the work of Stevie Wonder, Bootsy Collins, numerous classic and funk and neo-soul artists, U2, Tool, and another dozen or so cutting edge rock bands just cause you don't like envelope filters. take it easy, speaking in absolutes like that just makes no sense, a person could easily argue that distortion or fuzz is garbage as well. you gotta judge a pedal if it acheives what it sets out to do and if it does it well.
your right man, but there is no real bass sound left. in my mind thats a shame. if people want just it go right ahead.. its no my cup of thea
I really want to hear this on guitar.
I'm agreeing with what some others are saying..my problem with adding effects to bass is it takes too much away from the bass sound which in a 4 piece set up is a large part of the orchestration. It turns a good bass tone into a cheap roland drum machine/video game sound. Leave the modulation for the guitars.
King Gnuのベースの音みたい
who came here because of quintuple camera guy
lol bass.
Muito ruim o review do pedal...
Makes me have to poop
Isn't this pedal a little bit useless?
Try telling Bootsy Collins that.
Play some damned music, stop playing with the controls and only hitting one note.

He's demonstrating the sweep of the q. The easiest way to hear the different resonant peak is by sweeping on one note. I can see why it would be boring to some....but those of us who are more patient don't mind.

No, fuck you. Some people would like to hear how the knobs actually distort the sound, not watch a performance. There are plenty of other videos for you.
sounds like a hater.
part 2 of my reply: this it a pedal to make a good basses sound crap
The worst bass envvelope filter i have ever tried

Just like any musical device, it's a tool. It's not just what a device like this does for a bass, but what it does to inspire an artists creativity. If it's not your bag, that's cool, but please respect the fact that there are plenty of people who do dig it. Calling it "crap" is just your opinion. Thanks

Worst demo ever...literally.
Because I like 60's psychedelia music not seinfeld theme music. I would equate such sounds with a bad trip. A bass should drive a song not jump around all intelligently like the player had ants in his pants. Filtering a bass loses all the tone.

You have a very narrow concept of musical/sonic creativity.
