OMG. This song is gold and it truly speak what IU (and probably most of the K-idols/artists/people) really feels. She's only 23, yet already 23, such a puzzling age especially when you live under the spotlight. It came out at perfect time too. Shes not talking about that. Shes talking about the music industry and the confusion they cause. Make everyone think being an idol is grear but they deal with sexual harrassment with nothing done about it despite promises to handle it, stalking, no privacy seeing the same people every single day, no love life to speak up because they often say you cant date or have a romantoc or sexual relationship, theyre exhausted, and lose money from their managers pocketing tons of it and giving them very little. I honestly think this is more about the kpop industry, and her career. My two main points are - The whole concept of “all idols being innocent” (while obviously being false) appeals to both younger and older audiences, and it seems like she’s fallen victim to it. (Ie: “If I pretend to be immature, please be fooled roughly”). Idols not having any lovers is also a strict industry standard (most big companies even have it in the idol’s contract), and she’s under this standard too. (Ie: “I want to be in love, no I rather make money”). Also, this particular line stood out to me as one that could only work in the context that I’ve mentioned above: “at first, I’ve never written a single line of lies”. I really can’t see how this connects to anything but her and overall, the industry she’s in. Nothing against woman empowerment, but it just doesn’t seem like the theme of this song.

Just because in the case of IU the meaning of this song might be a lot more specific as you say, that doesn't mean it can't speak to the complexity of being a young woman having to conform to different expectations and pressures, I'm not saying you are wrong about this song being about her experiences with being an idol, but that doesn't mean we should narrow the meaning of this song down exclusively to her experiences in the kpop industry when the song is relatable to a much wider audience.

She is 22 but in korea your age start when you are conceived, so there she is 23 but if its about birthday she is 1993 so it 22.

***** It's just a joke lol. because in korea the day you are born you will be considered 1 years old they count the year you are on your mother womb. And in Korea your age doesn't change in your birthday, instead it changes in January 1(New Year). So when i say they count the year when you are on your mother's womb, i don't mean the 9 months, what i mean is the "YEAR" So when you are born in December 31st, you will be 2 years old the next day(Jan 1st) because they count the Year and as a baby you are already in this world in two different year. Get it?

It's been less than an hour that i've been 23. It's so refreshing seeing how many people had the same thought to comeback to this song and share their experience, because in my case this period of my life is very confusing and reading everyone makes me feel comforted ❤ I remember finding this song when i was 17 or something, i couldn't really understand the meaning then, but I do now, every word in the lyrics.

In Korea, we count the age from the conception in mom's belly, so when a baby is born, it is already 1 year old. So, she was 23 in Korean age at that time. More interestingly, we also celebrate the baby's 100th day from the birth, which is 1 year from the conception.(I am not sure it is enough to explain Korean age in English, though.)

I first listened to this when I was 19. At first, I didn't think it would make a difference if I heard it when I was 19 or 23. But now that I'm 23, I completely understand what kind of state of mind IU was in. It's nice to come back to this song and see how much she's grown from this. It really helped to remind me that all of my struggles and uncertainties will pass too. I will know who I am and I will bloom like a lilac.
