가인이 몸으로 춤으로 보여줄 수 있는 표현력의 정점을 찍은 곡이라고 생각함,, 당시엔 선정적이고 성경을 건드렸다고 말 많았는데 그냥 너무 좋았고 지금도 좋다

Its been years and I still think Gain went absolutely feral with this. Unfortunately kpop nowadays is even more of a factory. The take people who arent particularly bad at singing but not really good either. And then they mold them into one and the same. Now I dont know how much of this was Gains own direction but I hope her ideas are her own

진짜 중간에 뱀 춤이랑 발톱 다 빠져가면서 연습하고 이 안무 제대로 소화하려고 현대무용까지 배웠다는데 저 노래 나왔을 당시에 성희롱하고 야하다고 하면서 욕한 사람들에게 너무 화가 났었는데 이제서야 인정받는 것 같아서 너무 기분 좋다 언니 기다릴게요ㅠㅠ +) 안무도 참여했다네요

아트오토 나는 오히려 이런 의상이 안무를 더 극대화한다고 봄. 의상이랑 골반춤이 뱀 머리를 묘사하는 것 같고 망사가 뱀 허물을 표하는 거고 무용수들이 다리를 다 드러내서 안무를 더 잘 표현하기 위해서 그러는 것 처럼 말임 그리고 음방보면 의상 이렇지 않기도 하고 뮤비는 좀 더 선정적이긴 하지만 어떻게 보면 무대에서는 표현 못하는 걸 보여주려한 것 같음

@아트오토 의상은 무늬가 뱀을 표현한거라고 생각합니다. 그리고 윗분 말처럼 타이트한 의상이 좀 더 움직임이 잘보이기때문에 뱀을 잘 표현하지 않았을까요? 성경에서 하와가 선악과를 따 먹어서 욕망을 알게 되었잖아요? 그 말씀하신 장면은요 하와가 욕망(성욕)을 알게되는 장면입니다. 그래서 파이프가 남성의 성기모양이고 거기서 떨어지는 물을 받아먹는걸(선악과를 먹는 것을 연상) 표현했다고 하는데 자세한건 해설영상을 검색하시는게 좋을 것 같애요😊 이 곡이 욕망을 표현했다고 해서 그게 성희롱 당할 이유가 될수는 없는 거 아닐까용?ㅠㅠ

It's been 3 years since this masterpiece has been released and yet not a single kpop idol managed to combine art, sensuality and sexiness into one and make it as amazing as Gain did. I'm craving a comeback like this one so much.

@@sheikbazith296 I watched the video and read some comments so I was right by thinking the concept looked a little forced... that's what people mean when we say that Gain owns her sexiness, she does it so natural that it just flows with the music and her voice, it ends up with amazing results like paradise lost. I'm no shaming on stellar just I think that concept don't work in them so natural, hope to hear amazing things from them in the future

Another example of why Kpop needs more talent like Gain to be found and encouraged. Gain and those very few like her, always appeal to me. Not just simply her sex appeal, you can find that in ANY Kpop act. But it's the way she exudes confidence through her dancing and singing. The storytelling in her MV's takes things to another level. Seriously, Kpop big wigs, match up more talent who thinks outside of that proverbial box with writers, producers and directors who will dare to motivate that talent to create gems like these.

아무리 생각해도 이 노래가 너무 일찍 나왔어ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 지금 나왔으면 훨씬 주목받고 해외까지 퍼졌을 것 같음... 옛날에는 그냥 섹슈얼한 부분에만 집중해서 진짜 의미가 묻혔는데, 이제 의식이 바뀌었고 많은 사람들이 이 영상을 통해 아티스트가 뭘 이야기하는지에 주목함 그래서 이제야 이 뮤비가 진짜 예술이란걸 깨닫지... 성적인 부분도 성경의 해석을 극대화시키기 위함이고 뱀도 하와 내면의 욕망을 상징하는 소재로 쓰인 걸 보면 그냥 감탄밖에 안나옴!!! 분명 논란이 될 걸 알았을텐데도 뮤비를 촬영한 건 가인이 이 노래를 통해 전달하고자 하는 바가 있었기 때문이라고 생각함. 그걸 너무 늦게 알아버려서 아쉬울 뿐이고ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 이렇게 심오한 주제를 확실하게 전달하는 거 보면 정말 최고의 솔로 아티스트라고 생각한다...!

@@HS-nu4us 의상만 놓고보면 선정적인건 사실이죠. 하지만 이 노래는 성적인 매력 어필과는 관계가 먼 것 같아요. 뱀의 모습과 움직임을 모방한 의상과 춤인걸요. 이 노래가 나왔을 당시에는 선정성 논란이 심했어요. 그러나 시간이 지나며 인식이 많이 바뀌어서, 많은 사람들이 가인의 Paradise Lost의 의미를 알아봐주시고 있죠. 저는 이 노래가 최근에 나왔어도 성상품화 논란이 일거라는 생각은 별로 안들어요ㅎㅎ

중독성 강한 후크송 적당히 만들고 좀더 쉽게 접근해서 인기를 버는 쪽도 선택할 수 있었을텐데 저렇게 대중성을 좀 버리더라도 예술성을 가미한 어려운 길을 선택했다는 것은 분명 대단한 거임 가인은 그래서 정말 오래 기억될 거야

Sounds pretentious

This is how you do it. Sexy, but in an artistic, mature, classy way. Yes, the choreography is provocative, but if you've ever watched professional contemporary dance performances, this is nothing too unusual. I especially like how this video was shot and edited, without the usual amount of gratuitous butt close-ups seen in other k-pop videos. Yes, there are naked men in the end of the video, but very little is revealed, they're shadowed in the background, and they match the theme of the video. Yes, this is sexier than a lot of other girl groups in k-pop, but Gain is almost 30 and is a grown-ass woman who shouldn't have to pretend she's an innocent little girl anymore.

As much as I love the Girl Crush and Flower Power concepts female groups and soloists follow today, I really do miss these sort of dark, passionate, feminine, concepts from years ago. So sensual, so classy, timeless. I always comeback to this song. It’s so unique and the choreography is splendid. I’d love to see concepts like this again from the women of Kpop.

@@user-jv9jq3pq4s 성경에서 파라다이스(낙원)에 아담과 이브가 있었는데요. 신이 아담과 이브에게 유일하게 금지한게 선악과를 먹지말라고 한 것 입니다. 그런데 낙원에서 뱀이 이브를 유혹해서 선악과를 먹게했고 신에계 들켰습니다. 그리고 아담과 이브는 이 노래 제목처럼 낙원에서 추방당해 낙원을 잃어버렸죠. 그래서 댓글이 성경의 유혹하는 뱀이라고 하셨나봐요. 뮤비에서도 뱀이 여러번 나오기도 하구요.

23년인 지금 봐도 참으로 세련된 영상미에 노래에 안무 ,의상, 컨셉 앞으로도 이런 컨셉으로 나올 가수가 있을까 싶음 가인이 확실히 실력이 뒷받침 되니까 이런 어려운것도 소화 해냈다고봄

6 years later, it's still a masterpiece. This MV is timeless.

처음엔 충격적이었고 다음은 중독적이었고 지금은 정말 몇년이 지나도 찾아볼만큼 예술적으로 느껴진다.

이 노래가 수록되어 있는 앨범 기획력도 오지는게 이 노래가 3월 12일에 나왔거든요? 그런데 이 노래의 컨셉이 에덴 동산의 하와 컨셉인데 그거랑 관련된 내용이 성경 창세기 3장 12절에 나옵니다. 즉 노린거라는거.... 무엇보다 앨범 제목부터가 Hawwah임...

For anyone who's never read Paradise Lost, i suggest you read it ( it's kinda short). IT's basically a story that blames Eve for the downfall of mankind. She was the one who listened to the serpents advice and ate from the fruit. Then she gave it to adam who also knew that he shouldn't eat from the fruit but he took it from her anyway. Basically this story says that women have the kind of power (which is the ability to tempt) over men that would lead to their downfall.

지원 그리고 난해하지 않고 모두가 아는 아담과 이브라는 소재를 사용한 것도 좋은 점 중에 하나인듯. 뮤비에서 풀어내는 메세지를 일반인들도 해석할 수 있게 적당히 비유를 사용했음. 비유가 너무 과하면 난해로 금방 빠지는데 적당한 비유와 안무, 손가인의 매력으로 진정한 대중예술

그동안 종교에서 선악과를 먹고 낙원에서 추방당한 멍청한 여자로 낙인 찍힌 '하와'를 비틀어 욕망(뱀)을 내재화하고 자유의지를 통해 성적 자기 결정권을 발현한 여성으로 다시금 해석했다는 게, 무엇보다 '여성의 성적 자기 결정권'을 대중음악을 통해 무려 "2015년"에 표현하였음이 놀라울 따름이다.

사실 아직도 가인만한 매력 넘치는 가수는 없는 것 같다. 그냥 너무 멋있다. 7년 전 뮤비이지만 지금봐도 촌스럽거나 그런 느낌 없이 잘 만든 듯.

Paradise was lost the second I saw this was rated 15 and not 19 like some comments make it out to be. Gain owns her sexiness, shes a grown woman doing what she wants to do. If she wants to continue to bring these art inspiring videos, let the woman do it. She killed this song, the part at the end with the dual dancing was really creative. I didn't even notice all the naked guys at the end of the video lol

제일 소름돋는 건 하와와 뱀이 동일 인물이고 실낙원(paradise lost)이 하와의 자의로 이루어진 행동이라는 것. 게다가 결국 실낙원을 선택한 그녀 자신은 낙원에 도착했다 말하고 있으니..

선정적인건 맞는데 그게 마냥 자극적이고 싸보이고 그런게 아니라 정말 예술같다는 느낌이다... 신화에 나오는 아담과 이브를 꾀어낸 뱀이 계속 생각났음 뒷부분에 벗은 남자들이 막 엉켜있는것도 인간의 원초적이고 본능적인 욕구같은걸 잘 표현해낸 느낌이라 좋았고..

It's a lot of symbolism in one video, all of the themes revolving around Gain and her lover, being *the embodiment of Eve and the serpent.* They *succumb to the first temptation* and they lose their Paradise, as is written in holy texts. She's not rewriting philosophy class, but instead puts herself in the spotlight as she talk as about her story through these metaphors. Notice the *hedonistic* nature of the video, it tends to *value lust and pleasure over Eve protecting her innocence and her place in paradise.* Also in the bridge she mentions "They're making up a story, So they can control you and me" Basically calling out *people who use religion as a tool to* oppress and *restrict people's freedom.* This is the exact kind of controversy we've come to expect from Gain, and she delivers it well. Most of this music video is *captured from the perspective of the serpent looking at Eve* - the same way that Bloom was pictured intimately from the eyes of her lover - *Gain's character is given depth and is depicted having as her own right to sexual pleasure.* The representation of the serpent though, is equally, if not more eye-catching, striking and meaningful. The best scene still goes to the stills from 3:20 onwards, where 1. Eve and the serpent get separate choreography takes. 2. The frames are then placed *alternately over each other,* 3. Then mirroring each other vertically and alternating again. It's fantastic how the distinction between the eve and the serpent is established. Both characters are seen as equal and opposite to each other, *duality and harmony* shown via means of *cinematography, editing, colour-grading and wardrobe choices.* This allows it to easily avoid colorist implications, unlike straight out painting your skin black to represent evil /side eyes RM and Coup D'Etat/ I bet we'll still be talking about this video years from now. Great job all in all from Gain and her team.

***** Paradise lost is an epic poem written by John Milton in the 1600's. It's about the fall from the garden of eden. the music video actually has a lot of different possible meanings which is really impressive for a music video, they're usually pretty black and white with their meanings. one i got was that when Gain was wearing black she was the snake tempting eve (wearing white). you can see eve copying the language the snake uses. Another was that the fall might have been a good thing. Here it probably means sex. Everyone tells girls that they should be pure and save their first time and that after sex they will be fallen and dirty. Here she's saying that actually it's freeing and not evil as everyone says I'm sorry I'm rambeling but this makes me really happy, my love of literature and K-pop have combined!

I agree but I also believe that one thing can mean lots of different things at the same time :) My favorite is how in 'bloom' she showed sex as this bright wonderful thing with happiness and flowers instead of grungy and dark and shameful like it's usually shown as

대한민국 역사상 역대 솔로 여가수 중 보아와 더불어 최고의 솔로 여가수. 가창력, 퍼포먼스, 예술성, 유니크함 까지 1등 스타에게 필요한 모든 것을 갖추었다. 운칠기삼이라, 지금같이 k-pop이 고평가 받을 때 골든에이지를 맞이했다면 BTS나 블랙핑크 못지않게 글로벌적으로 먹힐만한 가수... 지금 봐도 현재 등장하는 뮤비들보다 왠만한 뮤비들은 짓이겨버리는 압도적인 수준의 아우라에 넋을 빼놓게 된다.

I know right?! Like, I don't want to sound like I'm "slut shaming" girl groups (because I'm definitely the opposite on that issue!), but their onscreen and onstage sexuality just seems so contrived and forced...like they were told to act sexy and they had no choice in the matter because it's their job. That's not freedom of expressing one's sexuality if your superiors are dictating that you act that way! But with Gain, she actually looks in control of her sexuality, like she's displaying a *conscious* decision to do so, and she totally OWNS it! LOVE her!

I love Gain because in a culture where REAL sexuality is so looked down upon, all of her music celebrates the beauty of sexuality and female empowerment through sexuality. Whether it's her idea or not, she's really brave to do it.

+Kdc Kdc well I think both Hyuna and Gain are very brave because there are a lot of people that criticize artists for being too sexual or artistic and the fact that they are doing this kind of music is great for those who enjoy the videos because everyone has a different style they like, and maybe the artists like this style as well. It's my belief that if you've got it, you should flaunt it 😂👍🏻😊 And they seem to be happy doing just that

굉장히 저평가된 노래.. 선악과를 먹이기 위해 유혹하는 뱀을 굉장히 잘 표현함.

시대를 앞서간 무대다 내포하고 있는 의미나 퍼포먼스, 뒤에 깔리는 음악소리들까지 예술작품같음 영상이 끝나고 나면 감탄사가 나오게 됨

I love the way that the choreo is portrayed. The slow movements, the crawling and slithering, imitating the movements of a snake. Also love the way this song and instrumental is produced, it has a very grant feel to it. The instrumental of the choruses and the bridge are grant. The vocals in the background of the song gives this song so much touch. It's creepy, sinister and mysterious while there's not a lot going on in the verse, that's all it needs to leave an impression. The melody of the piano, the drums, Gain's expressive vocals and the vocals in the background really gives this song a touch to it. The vocals in the background gives this song a sinister feel which helps as the instrumental is very soft, the vocals give an off putting atmosphere. The reversed and distored vocals, and the way they are pitched, add on to it, makes it sound like a ghost crying. The beat of the drums gives a nice motion to the song and the melody of the piano. The keys of it tells a story and Gain leads the story with her vocals. Gain's soft vocals and breathy vocals sells off the atmosphere of the song really well, they are so expressive and the way she sings also has this very proper/formal way to it. The pipe organ in this song also gives off a sinister and almost tragic feeling to the song. Related to the story of the mv, it seems like Gain sucumbs to the temptation and lose her pureness. We see during the 2nd verse and further on the glitches that occur throughout the mv and how she starts moving more as of a snake. We see the pure version of Gain and the version who's been tempted, reffering to her being the Paradise Lost. I was also thinking of how much the beginning sounded like the theme of Harry Potter and were wondering if it was done on purpose because of the fact that Harry also gets tempted and is able to understand the language of snakes. I just thought it was interesting and could wonder if it was done on purpose. Anyhow, this song is immaculate

I looked up Paradise Lost for the metal band, clicked on this and was blown away! I don't know much about kpop besides it's really colorful and cartoonish, but this video had the choreography without being childish or following a trend. It's so mature and daring, I honestly enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to more of this style.

The emotion in her voice, the pleading in her tone, the way she hits those lower notes, the depth of her alto.... she's the devil herself offering temptation while visibly and audibly dripping in sin, and I still want to take her up on it. What a queen.

가인 제발 다시 앨범 좀 내주세요.. 독보적 유니크한 뮤지션!!!

This masterpiece is my favourite music video ever. The song and the choreography are great by themselves, but the video was just flawlessly executed and contains copious symbolic devices. 1) The original Paradise Lost is about the fall of mankind due to Hawwah eating the forbidden apple, listening to the advice of the serpent. The forbidden fruit is biblical symbolism for sex, given that creation of life is within God's domain, and yet it's so tempting because sex gives pleasure. The original story is written in a way that puts the blame on Hawwah, drawing Adam as a pious innocent servant of God, a victim of the sinful nature of women. Gain reinterprets this as Hawwah making her own proactive choice of shunning the paradise devoid of free will. 2) She starts in paradise, which is the place with the church organ, which I think was deliberately illustrated as not very appealing. She listens to the serpent's advice and hesitantly moves to the tempting forbidden fruit. The fact that the fruit is sex is illustrated by that she rides the 'bed' (lift) to quench her thirst from the pipe in a provocative manner, past the door on which there's the Tree of Eden symbol. 3) Hawwah looking into the mirror shows her inner contemplation and the process of developing free will. The clock in the mirror represents the price of disobeying God's zero-child policy (corollary of no-sex policy), which is mortality. Admiring her beautiful self in the mirror, she chooses with her free will to identify herself as a seductress. The light blinking symbolises her gradual and hesitant moral transformation, and when it goes off completely, she makes up her mind and shuns paradise. 4) Gain in Black and White: At first, the black is the snake, the voice of temptation. Gain in white is Hawwah's pure and innocent state before she commits the sin. As she commits the sin, they overlap and mix, showing how from pure innocent one dimensional domesticated animal of God, she evolves a complex character with both good and evil. 5) The serpent and Hawwah are equated with the snake-choreography as mentioned before, which means the sin is internalised. But the snake and Hawwah were one from the start, shown by Gain's long white dress which resembles a snake in the beginning. Snake is just her internal voice of temptation materialised. 6) The ending scene is the best bit: amongst the damned men kneeling and bowing in pain and shame, she is alone in the light. Although she's damned just like them, she faces God, maybe fearfully, but without remorse nor regret, even putting a dim smile onto her lips at the end. She lost Eden, but got another Paradise, as in the lyrics. 7) I see feminist messages on many of Gain's songs. Bloom talks about female masturbation, Fxxk you is basically 'no means no.' PL is sexualised of course, since the topic is sex. But it is not mindlessly so and it "subjectifies" rather than objectifies women, unlike the majority of other K-Pop songs. This brings into discussion the topic of women assuming roles as active decision-makers in sexual relationships, because they were the decision makers from the very beginning. Note how there isn't a single guy in this music video until the very end, when we see damned creatures devoid of character in contrast with Hawwah, a remorseless rebel. If she wanted to be just sexual, she could've just done it like Hyun-A (I'm also a huge fan of her, but none of her songs or music videos show this level of artistry...)

We'll said!! I couldn't agree more and I think Hyuna actually won the best choreography and Ga In was nominated for it, I really was taken aback.... Everybody knows deep down this video deserved that award but in Kpop they always try to stay on the "safe", "simple" and "fun" side of things, even though there isn't safety or simplicity in Hyuna she somewhat remains a Kpop sweetheart. I do think that they shun originality especially with a woman who exudes excellence such as Ga In.

+Empress C. is it voted ONLY by fans? (I never got to know). If it is, we already know how something so shameful as Paradise Lost not winning could have happened: fans are blind and dont actually vote for what they think deserve to win in the category. I love hyuna, but this song was actually so powerful and fresh (which is hard on kpop honestly) that it should have been nominated for more categories.

Broke the Korean stereotypes way before Jessi or Hyolyn did yet nobody is talking about this?

e_e Gain didn't debut like this and neither did Jessi or Hyolyn. Breaking standards on debut isn't something idols do. What a dumb comment to make lmao. INB4 "well abracadabra was still sexy like this video"---Abracadabra was not standard breaking. Stop comparing idols like being the "first" makes them the best and just enjoy what each individual idol offers GD.

9년전인거 보고 ㅈㄴ 놀랐네...... 해봐야 한 3년?정도 지난줄 알았는데

진짜 다시 봐도 너무 모션이 멋있고, 표현력이 뛰어나다고 느낀다. 가인 언니 그 당시 잘 몰라서 죄송했고 꽃길만 걸으셔요 ㅠㅠ

이 노래가 나왔을 당시 심멎하는 충격에 온갖 해설들 찾아보고 이런 예술작품이 있나 했었는데 대부분은 외설적이다, 선정적이다, 신성모독이다 하면서 욕 오지게 했었죠. 저는 야하다기보단 예술로 보여서 너무 좋았는데 엄마들은 애들이 볼까 무섭다, 다리는 왜 벌리느냐, 의상은 수영복이냐 가인이 미국가수였음 진심 그래미 상 받을 앨범이었다고 생각해요. 당시엔 이상한 사람으로 몰릴까 의견도 못 냈었는데 최근 인정해주시는 댓들이 늘어가는 것 보고 용기내봅니다.
