Naritasan is actually the place in Japan I know best, due to our 2 years living in the Chiba prefecture in the early 90’s. It was my go to park to relax in, and I loved the old style shops and sloping street down to the temple grounds. I would always take visiting family there. Then in 2016 when my daughter and I stopped for a 3 night stopover, we just based ourselves by Narita station to catch up with friends, and for me to show my daughter around Narita and parts of Chiba (we had already visited Japan for 2 weeks 2 years earlier but not gone here so this was a relaxing and easy time for us). We also had our daily coffee stop in the same sweet cafe. This is actually my first time seeing anyone vlog Narita since becoming active here on YT 4 years ago. It really does seem to be a hidden gem.

When I was in Japan in 2007 I accidentally booked my flight back a day later then my stay with my host family. I asked them if I could stay for another night but they kicked me out. So I went to Narita Airport to see if there is a airport hotel available. Unfortunately not, but the desk lady knew somebody who had a hotel in Narita. That's how I stumbled upon Narita. I was just walking a round to kill time until dinner when I came across Narita Shinsho-Ji. I had no idea it was there and it was such a magical day for me and the perfect final day in Japan. Can't wait to revisit Narita.

I went to Narita for my last 2 days during my first trip (just as Japan lifted their restriction on having travel agents) 'cause at that time I wouldn't know when my next trip to Japan would be. I wanted to experience a ryokan, but ryokan prices are insane in Tokyo, so I booked 2 nights at Narita instead. It was great; from the nature of Naritasan Park to the Omotesando area (bought some omiyage snacks and engraved chopsticks since they are lightweight and pretty cheap @ 700 yen each) to the Aeon Mall area, there were quite a number of things to do. Highly recommended to stay in Narita for at least a day if you can.

On my second trip to Japan, due to a mix up I stayed overnight in Narita and spent the most wonderful day in Narita Omotesando area. The many traditional style shops are a snap shot of old Japan. Even if you had only a 24 hour stop over in Japan this would be the place to go to get a feel for the old Japan; and most people don't know about. When I was there, people had brought their bags, and back paksto the Shrine, to be blessed by the priest for success and prosperity, Very picturesque. Thanks for a great reminder. Cheers Muffy from Oz (Australia)

My wife and I are currently visiting Japan. Thanks to this video, we booked our first two nights in Narita. Neither of us had ever been to Narita City before beyond the airport, and my wife is from Japan! Narita is a great place to get over some jet lag before delving into the rest of Japan. Naritasan Omotesando and Naritasan Shinsho-ji (Buddhist temple) is a slow-paced alternative to Tokyo's Asakusa, and Naritasan Park is a wonderful respite. We stayed at a much cheaper hotel, and while the room was quite small it was decent. We will be spending our last night in Narita again. It will give us a chance for last-minute gifts and one final meal of delicious unagi. Thanks for the great idea!

Discovering Narita has made leaving Japan so less hasslesome. Since many flights to Europe leave in the morning, you would have to wake up really early to get to the airport from Tokyo. But the last time we went, we spent the last night in Narita, which meant we could make our way from Tokyo at our leisure, and then explore Narita. And in the morning, the hotel shuttle took maybe 15 minutes. It’s a no-brainer, really.

I have to say, I took Narita Airport for granted. I just used it as a cheaper way to travel (considering that you are buying the 7 day train ticket). Maybe next time I will explore it, It gave me the vibes from Kyoto and Tokyo combined. Plus it seems less crowded/cheaper than the other two destinations.

The question is do I get ripped off buying red bean paste or do I buy a cheap can of adzuki beans and make my own...might have to do that. Beans are healthy, but with a load of sugar and then baked into basically a Japanese Yorkshire pudding, that's going to be a week's worth of calories (because I'm making a batch and no, I'm not sharing them 😁). Totally worth it.

But I just wanted to point out that hotel cost $300 USD in February and those dinners must have cost a couple hundred each. Japan is a great place to visit but one hardly has to blow a thousand dollars to enjoy one's last day and in the country.
