I've been to Mito and I loved the garden! Sadly I got there too late and the café had already closed. But I also got to see the other historic buildings tied to the Tokugawa clan (like the school) and I couldn't believe how tranquil the atmosphere was. Hardly anyone around those beautiful historic sites.

Doesn't Emma's pottery has a opening that's smaller than the body? The completed pottery in the photo looks nothing like what you made. LOL The tiramisu looks really good though so if I ever decide to visit Ibaraki, I'll definitely visit that cafe.

3:26 Tips from Japanese: Totally no problem, but it is a manner to wear a yukata/kimono with the right side of the collar inward; so Sarah's way is appropriate. Emma's way is perceived to be a way for a dead body...

So funny, I was not expecting the segway to throwing. I'm currently trimming some ramen bowls for a freind. On the same wheels, well, my two shimpo Whisper RK3E, I'm not sure those were whispers, they seemed a touch noisy, and mine are super super quiet. And, as usual, TC delivers a fun and respectful travelog video. Nice to see more craft. I would love to know more about the lacquer ware.

I've always wanted to try to make pottery. It looks so simple but since almost all videos I've seen of it has needed the professional to step in and help out to a (very) varying degree, it's obviously a lot harder than it looks 😀

It is quite difficult to get good at. You need a lot more strength to resist the amount of force the spinning clay puts onto your hands and you need to make slow but deliberate movements to change the shape whilst keeping the centre of gravity in the middle of the wheel.
