Bewildered by brilliance ....from both of them. Its lovely to have demonstrated just how much smarter thanordinary folk these players are. Even with your commentary I was struggling to work out what was going on. Thank you.

Please more games by GM Christiansen . I have played at tournaments with him. His is a funny and kind guy who once played some legendary ROOK SAC at an Olympiad team game in the 90's. I remember asking him about it...it was covered by the excellent magazine " Inside Chess" published by GM Yasser Seirawan himself. I remember " and the Crazed Rook throws itself into the fire!!! ' was a poetic quote from the magazine.
HOLY SHIT!! This was one of my favorite videos ever. Suren---- top notch as always. Great video! Amazing game!
Have to admit, this game is no ordinary game. Good video as always

Hi Suren, can you please post a game where the Urusov Gambit was played? Thanks
awesome game!
Just a beginner, so can someone explain to me how the unprotected black rook can force a perpetual check as shown? Wouldn't the king simply take it?
i want to to ask after taking the rook by the king the second rook is also hanging there ,that is not taken by the king why??
2:30 coffee kicks in
After White Bishop B4 white not Black Knight H6, to protect the Pawn on F7?
great game
at 1:20 why on Earth did he move QB3 instead of RA1?
Brilliant move! !!!!"
He played so good in causing a draw in a losing game but was dumb enough to make a mistake to allow that pawn to be taken
at 2:10 after Bc4 why can't white play Nh6??
Why not Knight H6 to defend the pawn at 2:30 ?
At.2:38 when white plays Bc4 why didnt black play Nh6 and played Nf2 instead???
Pardon my ignorance. Why wouldn’t the king just take the rook on g3 that was making the “perpetual check”?
1:48 Why not cxb5 by black?
3:15 What about Qh3? How should black reply afterwards?
@SurenAghabekyan

@4: 03, why did Black queen captured white knight instead of white queen
what are the ratings of the players of this game
Where is the swindle?
Two knight sacs, four Queen sacs, then Double Desperado Rooks!!! Man, Christiansen could play.
used to play a lot of chess......Losing was brutal, so to take a losing position, And engineer a draw......What a feeling
_One of the greatest swindles in chess_ I thought that was the 1984 world championship.
I bet drawing such a game is much more satisfying as winning a standard boring game.
On 3:42 why not Q×e6
Ok. Good luck is back :D
Most of the time you can guess the first two moves by the year the game was played
2:35 What if....Kg7 Giving up the pawn and after Bxf7-Nxe5 or Nxf7-Rxc4 ?

Ask yourself what black's next move would be after white captures the last rook, and you'll see the answer to your question.
Suren, what is your real job? I love your chess videos:)

Oh my God! This was a brilliant defense by black! Pure genius!
I’m very confused, why can’t the king take the rook at 5:07 ??
@SurenAghabekyan
6 жыл бұрын
because after you capture black will have no more legal moves and that will be a draw! STALEMATE
4:48 "Can you find black's next move?". Wow, finally I was able to find one of the moves he asks.

Fantastic! Im even glad white didnt play @3:48 Qxe5! Which would win, but we wouldnt see this beautifull finish

Ok, it's late and all but why the king cannot simply take the rook on G2 at 5:05?
@SurenAghabekyan

again that will be a stalemate
@Rozq

Right, then the black king would be without a move. Didn't notice nor hear you say that at the end of the video for some reason. Many thanks for getting back to me and clarification Suren. Keep on rocking the chess world :)
I was shocked at that voice
5:05 Why did white take rook? Am I missing something?
@SurenAghabekyan

again that will be a stalemate
@TG-to5nf
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't get how that would be stalemate, is it not checkmate ?
I love chess, but honestly the rule about repeat moves resulting in a draw is such a cop-out way for sooooo many matches to be drawn when one side clearly is winning. It’s aggravating to see. White’s options were draw by repetition or draw by stalemate…
@SurenAghabekyan

yes, but in this case what exactly disappoint you?
I'm not the fu***** kidding i just got the notification

why the king didnt captur the last rook ? did i miss somthing ?

again that leads to a stalemate
@Smileater
5 жыл бұрын
After taking that rook, Black king won't be able to move, which makes a draw.
Where is the stalemate in the end??
@SpamDestroyer
6 жыл бұрын
Black can't move any of his pieces. The king is cut off and all the pawns can't advance. Either the rook perpetually checks the king, or the rook is taken and black can't move.
This Rook is becoming a Desperado piece. © Suren
2:35 why not save it by Nh6 or Rf8?
@martisian

If Rf8 Qa4 wins a rook, but Nh6 seems a quite decent move.

@FromTheMountain
7 жыл бұрын
From a positional point of view, I think Nh6 is not desireable because it is very difficult for black to get any sort of counterplay from that position. In a more concrete form, we can see that white already has Qb6 picking up a pawn (note that Qd7 doesn't work because of Nxf7 with a discovered attack). Black probably didn't want to go full passive and decided to go for a sacrifice to create some play.
@martisian
7 жыл бұрын
You are probably right. After Qb6 the c6 pawn is lost and the knight on h6 looks pretty silly.

What aboring game:(
At 3:04, would it be possible for white to simplify with 34.Qxa2 Rxa2 35. Bxa2? In this variation, white will be up a piece and 2 rooks versus black's sole queen. I don't see how black would be continuing the attack. The e and c pawns are still protected by the well placed knight, and the bishop can relocate to c4>e2 to guard against the weak light squares in the white camp I dont see 34... Rxg3 working either, cause after 35. Kh1, he'll be able to play Rd2 or Rc2 and white's king will be pretty safe. White can also play something like Rb1 or Rb2 with the idea of Rb7, seizing back the initiative. Keep in mind that white is up an entire rook and piece at in this variation, so if he ever makes a mistake, he'll be perfectly happy to give up his queen for the knight or rook.
@pdxguy52

Indeed, Edmond H, Stockfish loves Ra2+ (loves it for the white pieces, that is), giving it a score of +8.50 for white (at 28/54)
Desperado piece?wath is that?

White king cant take the rook?
@adrianp7431
6 жыл бұрын
If the king captured the rook, the game is already over! It's a stalemate and a draw! Nobody wins! Stalemate is a position counting as a draw, in which it is a player's turn to move, that player is NOT in check but cannot move except into check. Stalemate is frustrating if you are winning. Just because the king can't move doesn't mean that it's stalemate. So black sacrificed whatever piece remains and got the draw. A desperado piece is when you sacrifice your remaining pieces to get a stalemate. Black is saved. Do you understand now?
it is dubiously dubious dubiousity
My best defense ever
what is a perpetual check?

@seanshort2129

Anyone?
@SpamDestroyer

It can, but then black has no legal moves. The king is stuck, the pawns can't advance. Stalemate.
1:15 Why Qd7? I like to understand this move!
@mantaspilipuitis6634
7 жыл бұрын
Probably avoiding c5 because now c5 is responded by Qb5
@malcom91
7 жыл бұрын
It prevents de c5 move by white, because black queen is targeting the white knight on b5
@blairschirmerx1711
7 жыл бұрын
Qd7 eyes white's knight on b5. Black knows white wants to move his queen from d3, and when he does it will no longer protects white's knight in the event of the pawn push c4-c5.
Funny game! Black threatened stalemate by sacrificing everything. That's not a first, though...
Hello chess lubbers!

After capturing white bishop, Why is he not capture the white queen instead of capturing the Knight?
Suren, I have an amazing game for you. Victor Korchnoi vs Udovcic Mijo. You gotta love this game...especially that bishop, tied to a Grand Cross, after 23. Qh4!! www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1081771 This game is also analyzed in Chessmaster, in Academy tab, Christiansen's attacking style.
3:44 *sniff*
Can someone explain to me why they decided to resign in the end? Surely after taking the rook, white could have continued the game, with no chance of black winning
Thanks Suren. Amazing game. I don't understand the stale mate in the end. White is left with 2 rooks and a queen🤔
