Unfortunately, it is what it is and you are correct. It explains why so many people outside America view us with intense paradox. On the one hand we are (or were) technical leaders of the world. Those buckets aren't oats; they're freeze dried MRE's. I know because my mom had multiple walk-in closets literally full of them. Don't forget that's the same guy who, in the 80s, had a failed amusement park and a hooker scandal. His wife was the one always crying mascara tears. They had a Trump-style set for their tv show with gold chairs and gaudy everything. Obviously they were on a lot in my house, for me to remember so much from so long ago. Jesus, I couldn't wait to move out and get away from all of that. I don't think the tv people are mentally ill, I think they're dangerously lucid, but their followers surely aren't all there.

I never bought into all of that, though, and in fact, when I was quite young I got in plenty of trouble for questioning and pointing out things that didn't make sense, including being hit and that infuriating jaw squeeze that makes your bottom lip smush out. I seem to remember a verse that says something to the effect of, "Parents do not provoke your children to anger for they will lose hope." I guess that's one of those parts that don't have to be followed too closely? There's a staggering number of people out there who are like this and who fall for this stuff. I was dragged to many, many camp meetings and megachurches as a child and the places were always packed full. It's amazing that they can twist their minds in such a way to deny something as obvious as climate change yet believe in so many nonsensical fairy tales.

It is not Christianity, though clearly it borrows metaphors from, and very much patterns its appearance in some respects on, real Christianity. There is a lot of Jesus talk in the Prosperity Gospel, but the real object of worship is material success through Capitalism. Jesus is simply wallpapered over the surface. Interestingly, the Bible predicts that phenomena like this will occur. This is an example of the "wolf in sheep's clothing" mentioned in the New Testament letters.

His (as well as other televangelists') survival foods have a terribly short shelf life. So unless you eat them after a couple of months there isn't any reason to get them. They would.'t be there if you did need them in a 6 or 7 months. They'd have gone bad. So these guts have a real racket going. The longer the end takes in coming the more money they make. We know from his past history (for which he served prison time) that Banker plays fast and loose with other people's money

I have a hard time saying Donald Chump too. Yes, obviously these people have demonstrated that they will and do believe anything you preach to them and now this. The latest tax-free religious scam from Jimmy Bakker, the reincarnated Joseph Smith. Bakker has more rebounds than Wilt Chamberlain. Hey, only in America, right? This would not be possible were it not for the incredible number of gullible Christians in the US. They grow here like oranges on trees, especially in the south.

animus apertus , it’s hypocritical for you to call people gullible & say they’ll believe anything, when you yourself are being so gullible too - you believe all the lies & propaganda that the lying news media has been spreading about Donald Trump for the last 2 years. Trump does have some faults, but so does everyone, and most of what the media has said about Trump is either very exaggerated or an outright lie. Trump is NOT the bad person that the media portrays him to be! They take his words out of context by editing out parts of his sentences, and they twist the truth about everything he does and says, but you blindly believe it, just like all these other gullible people who think the news anchors are telling the truth.

A pastor hears God's voice: "It will go away in April. It is just a flu. Inject bleach, eat UV light bulbs, and you'll be fine". Pastor jumps up and prepares to talk about The Message in every church he plans to visit. 1 hour earlier: a kid in the next room watches comedy about Trump.

Well said! All one has to do is look a this rare and beautiful gift planet we live on, there in lies all the Spirituality one needs! How these people twisted it into the "devils domain" is beyond me. We will be culled back to few numbers because of our own stupidity. The planet has recovered from worse, chicxulub impactor, Siberian traps etc. But what a waste, we have paradise here, and all we can do is destroy it. Just too stupid, we deserve to go down!

Funny, I thought the same thing 60 years ago. None of the people I knew believed any of this crap. Then I set out into the real world to make a living...This is what I found out there - and many of them are bringing up kids. It's not about to change in a hurry.
