@The Magic Geekdom Seeing as your in Bath about 25 miles away from you is the Birth place of Cheddar Cheese and England's deepest and most beautiful Gorge with Caves you have to check out Cheddar Gorge, and taste the traditional cave matured cheddar cheese. The history of the caves and the history of how cheddar cheese was made then matured in the caves is mind blowing

Branston pickle is not something you'd generally eat on its own, you should have tried it with the cheese! I'm surprised they were offering a Ploughman's Lunch with chips, traditionally it's eaten with fresh, crusty bread.

@@juliecobbina2024 My point is that I'm surprised chips were an "option" in the first place! I looked at the Raven's menu online, and it says you can have a Ploughman's with bread (normal or gluten free) and butter, or chips. Can't say I've ever come across anywhere that allows you to choose chips instead of bread.

I lived on the tourist bus route in Bath for many years. Saturdays and Sundays were the days when we would mess with the tourists, as our windows were right at the same level as the top deck of the bus. I won't say the things my housemates and I did, but let's just say that Japanese tourists never knew where to look, while others would just laugh. I now know how zoo animals feel.

I'm a British born American from London, my late Mother was born in Chicago IL, I'm currently in London and my cousins from FL along with his Canadian Brother-InLaw are all coming over here in the next few days from now for my Sister's wedding in the English countryside. I have to laugh, they've been coming over here their whole lives and still think. this country is like something out of a movie/novel etc where people get married in castles and are required to wear specific clothes in order to go places etc lmao. My late Mother's Mother is British whereas my late Grandfather from the Midwest was stationed here in England during WW2 with the USAF(the base was located in central landlocked England), whereas my late Uncles were stationed down on the south coast with the USN. My Mom late settled here as a 10 yo in the late 1960's, I unfortunately lost her in 2005 but as a young Teenager I was fortunate enough to visit unique parts of this country such as Bath,Bristol, Stonehenge, Torquay, Exeter etc, it was almost 20 years ago now but I remember it all so clearly, There is still so much for you guys to see here!

Love this. I used to live in bath and it made me want to go back and visit. Techically that's not a ploughmans, but it looked delicious. A ploughmans is usually made up mainly of at least one cheese, maybe ham and/or other cold meats, pickles and crusty bread. They sometimes now come with a salad, but not usually that large, and I've never had one with chips. I had a ploughmans yesterday and it was a huge slab of baked ham, a massive chunk of Cheddar, bread and pickles, and a small salad on the side of the plate. I would consider that salad and chips. 😂 Often the tourist heavy places don't do things as authentically, which I'm sure is the same in th US. A pub out of town would be more likely to have a decent ploughmans. I had one in a rural pub in Cornwall that didn't have any gluten free bread for me so they added extra ham and cheese, and my father in law had to help me eat it all, there was so much.

Loved this. Haven’t been into Bath for a few years now - although it’s not far away. Perhaps it’s time to visit again. When I first started working in this area, I stayed in B&B and often had my evening meal in Bath - lots of great places to eat and pleasant walks around the centre of Bath afterwards. The architecture is fascinating with streets like Great Pulteney Street designed to look much like a single continuous building on each side.

The worldwide tourist industry does that advertising for you! I’m an American and every UK travel video recommended to me highlights London, Bath, and Stonehenge. Now, it’s only because I’m also a football fan that I know anything about Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, and Sheffield….funny how tourist agencies never mention those cities!

Hi guys, another good vlogg it makes me want to go to Bath again, I've been twice before and loved it, but soon you must travel northwards to really see the back bone of England, not the hussle&bustle of false London, check, Chester, York, Harrogate, Yorkshire dales moors, Northumberland.

I think everyone in the UK had an introduction to Branston pickle from a very early age. I can honestly think of no one who dislikes it but you are not the first person I have seen on YT who had that reaction. My go to sandwich would always be a cheese and Branston pickle sandwich. Pleased you liked Bath. It's my hometown.

So glad you loved Bath, it's such a wonderful place. Sally Lunns are a classic and cinnamon butter is my favourite too. Bath buns are nowhere near as nice. A ploughman's is traditionally a lunch meal and eaten with chunky bread and proper large pickled onions. Homemade chutney is so much nicer than Branston pickle so it's a shame you didn't have that included. Did you sample the pump room water...it's quite an experience! 😁

You're supposed to eat the pickle as an accompaniment to the cheese and bread. It's not really meant to be eaten as an individual dish, but in combination with the other items. It's a bit like if you have a bowl of tomato ketchup and start eating it with a spoon on it's own. That doesn't really work.

I must admit, that simple advice, "Travel now", really made me think. It's easy to get stuck in a rut, or put things off for another year, and then another, and so on. Before you know it, the years have passed and you start to regret what you've missed. Fantastic advice that everyone should heed if they are able to do so.

We are booked on the Jacobite train AKA Hogwarts Express!!! Then flying to Belfast, exploring Northern Ireland before driving down to Dublin for a few days before home. This is a trip of a lifetime for us and so excited. We hope all goes as plan. Good to hear less chance of rain during September, not that it would stop us.

If you are a fan of Georgian Architecture, check out the city of Brighton and Hove in Sussex as full of Regency and George IV buildings as well as the Indian inspired Royal Pavillion. The Prince Regent's, later George IV, fun Palace. Brighton is still a fun place, Hove is/was the posh residential town west of the Palace Pier. Brighton and Hove were only recently granted City status. but no Cathedral as part of the Diocese of Chichester.

I lived in Bath from 1992 to 2011. Think I only went to Sally Lunn's once in all that time. Didn't think the buns were all that special for the price. Apart from the Raven, the other places you visited are all new to me. New cafes, bars and restaurants are popping up all the time and a lot has changed in the last 11 years.
