In 1961 I played piccolo in Ypsilantic Civic Orchestra under the director, Dr. Wm. Fitch. Hours of practice by all performers. We rehearsed two semesters before Dr. Fitch had us perform it. It's more then fingerings those arpeggios but getting into the emotion of this piece. Performing this piece of music was one of the highlights of my life. Yes, I teared up as I listened to this performance. Never thought in 1960s I would watch it on an cellphone.

What always comes to my mind concerning these orchestral musicians is their lifetime of dedication. While the rest of us as children were outside playing after school, these people were indoors practising on their instruments, doing their scales and arpeggios and broken chords. As children these people made provision for their adult future doing what they love doing. I admire them so much. Even though my main passion is the piano, this is my favourite ever piece of music.

The Omagh bombing was a car bombing on 15th august 1998 in the town of omagah in the county tyrone, northern ireland. The bombing was carried out by The Real Irish Republican Army (IRA) splinter group who opposed the IRA ceasefire and the good friday agreement, signed earlier in the year. The bombing killed 29 people and injured 220 others, making it the deadliest incident of The Troubles in northern ireland. Telephone warnings that did not specify the location were sent 40 minutes beforehand, and the police inadvertently move people towards the bomb.

I love the ending of this piece, where the macabre goings on of the night are displaced by the serenity of the coming of dawn and the beauty of the new day. (I'm also not afraid to say that in 'Fantasia' I thought that the segue from this into Schubert's 'Ave Maria' was a stroke of genius. Sickly sweet yes, but it can still bring a tear to my eye!)

@12:53 what is that instrument? I never seen one... It looks like a flute, but nothing that I've ever seen before. Much thanks in advance.

Version originale 1867. But Rimsky did not know that version.( 1968 published ) Rimsky Korsakov used the 1880 piano-vocal score , a new version by Mussorgsky himself , but not yet orchestrated.
