Finally, a proper classical saxophonist with a rich sound full of harmonics, with a timbre that blends in with the other instruments and doesn't stand out too much. Bravo

As an amateur classical saxophonist, I can appreciate his sound very much. I had the chance to play this with a civic orchestra, and enjoyed it very much despite sitting through a whole concert with only one movement of music in which I could contribute. It was absolutely worth it!

Of course it takes years and years of hard work to even tryout for such an orchestra, but the amount of strenuous work involved in playing is remarkable. Somewhere in heaven Mussorgsky is fist-pumping.

Although not listed as one of the top 10 major symphony orchestras (Boston, NY Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago -- London, Vienna, Berlin, Concertgebouw, Philharmonia --- the OSLO symphony has fast become my favorite. I've now enjoyed 4 videos of this fabulous orchestra and each conductor's interpretation. Kudos to its members!

Estoy realmente emocionado al ver tanta empatia entre la orquesta y el Director, creo que esa es la razón de que se haya logrado una tan genial interpretación. Mil felicidades a la orquesta al director al compositor y al arreglista, es una de las mejores interpretaciones.

Very nicely done. One of the better performances of Pictures I've heard. Leonard Slatkin, however, (for me) remains the master and supreme interpreter of Pictures. Of course that figures because Slatkin is an expert on the work and has done his own arrangement of Ravel's orchestration. Maestro Bychkov's pacing is a tad too deliberate for me.

The technical interpretations, fluid, seemingly effortless execution, unified, beautifully balanced ensemble presentations, all combined to reach a level zen not often witnessed. My biggest disappointment was the elephant representation being performed by a euphonium rather than the bass tuba, which is, as I believe, originally indicated in the score. Euphonium substitution may be permitted in the score, i can't recall, but I was always instructed to play it on bass tuba. Notwithstanding that minor niggle, this performance is one of those rare examples when all of the stars align, communication between conductor and his ensemble is in perfect sync, and all of the composer's wishes are magnificently realized.
