I must admit I used to have a very polarised view of Muslim history. Not because it was deliberate, but because we mostly don't know some of our history. When my mom once told me that Arabs were in part to blame for slavery I was so angry. Like whyyyyyyyyyy. This channel as really made me understand why knowing our history is important, no matter how uncomfortable- for it gives us the upper hand in being grounded, impartial, fair members of society. It promotes critical thinking and ultimately progress. It brings us back to the tenants, beauty and desperate need of Islam. It's not that we should wallow in it, but we should definitely learn that Muslims do make grave mistakes. In saying this however, even knowing these unfortunate and uncomfortable times in history my faith in Islam has only grown because one can always see a direct correlation between moving away from Islam and Islaming principles/tradition and destruction. May Allah swt increase us in beneficial knowledge to be used in the way of Islam. Ameen.

It is selective amnesia @criticalthinker605. If you ask, most folks will try vehemently to play down the importance of that history, they'll say "how does that improve your eeman?"

Slavery in Islam is an alternative to incarceration. Second it still respects human rights and dignity Third it’s not race based. Westerners try very hard to equate it to the savagery they committed. Incomparable

The context of apology seems as though it mainly comes from those families or kingdoms that are in direct beneficiaries of those offenses. It's a good argument that none of these peoples or regions or even regimes exist anymore to apologize, but on the part of the loss of history and the reparation and restoration of items, artifacts and ethnic belongings, should be repatriated.

Barbary slave trade was done in the northern coastal areas of the Maghreb, primarly Berbers, some Arabs and European converts partook in this Barbary slave trade. Trans-Saharan slave trade was primarly done by the Sous berbers and Arab and Berber Saharan people. Correction, it was not only a tit for tat, it was also economic, they sold these european slaves and made good money with it. One state that still exists from those days is the Moroccan dynasty of the Alaouites

You are missing the point. Of course business people and pirates will make personal profit BUT that is not an economic gain for the state. The transatlantic slave trade was backed by huge banks and insurance companies for "economic gains" for over 400 years.

Regarding East African slave castration, from what I understand castration was not as common as Orientalists make it out to be. Practically speaking a castrated slave would be less than ideal for performing hard labour. Rather, only a limited amount of slavers were castrated who were designated to guard royal harems of people in power. The idea was that their main function was to make sure that the women in the harem could not escape, while simultaneously ensuring that the castrated slave could not indulge himself with the women of the harem. Additionally, I recall reading somewhere that many Arabs from all over Arabia do indeed have some admixture of African DNA in their ancestry, That would naturally mean that the slaves (men and women) obviously bred with the native Arabs, and Allah knows best

Before Islam came to Arabian Peninsula, the people used to invade other territories and they used to capture the people and sell them as slaves, or through debt and so on, and this was the case for the other nations, like the Greeks, Romans, etc. Even the Africans slaved other Africans. When islam came to Arabian Peninsula, Allah forbade this oppression, slavery can occur only in one way, and that is through a legitimate war. Not becouse of your skin color, or your religion. If the Muslims win against the kuffar, the Leader of the Muslims has 4 choices. 1. To let them go free. 2. Ransom. 3. Exchange with other Muslim prisoners. 4. Keep them to serve the Muslims. The Muslim Leader will look at what is the best option for the Muslims. If it is to keep them as servants then you feed them with the same food as yours, clothe them with the same clothes as yours, and so on. That is why, we see most of the servants embraced Islam and became Leaders. How on earth can these mushrikoon compare the servants in Islam which Allah legitimated and which is the best way and their slavery, which was nothing but oppression. The Muslims have to study to tackle these shunuhat brought by the kuffar. Jazakallahu khairan.
