This reminds me of a story I heard of a turtle who went to land. I don’t drink or eat pork, but I think the reason for that is there’s no halal version of alcohol, however if you’re hungry there’s plenty of food options you’re allowed to eat. The temptation of wanting to get drunk/high doesn’t have a halal alternative unlike food. But you’re right both are haraam and wrong

Best pork substitute I’ve ever had is pink oyster mushrooms. I eat pork and still prefer them to bacon. They don’t keep very well so you have to grow them yourself so you can eat them within a day or two of them being ripe but it’s REALLY easy. You just spray them with a light mist like twice a day. They’re so good. Taste EXACTLY like bacon if you fry them in some light oil.

@@anish3183 it depends. a steak or other full cuts of meat are considerably more gamey than, say, pork cutlets or the like. however, ground and minced beef is a bit more savory, and is most commonly enjoyed as, well, a hamburger.

Also to answer your question, the best description is if you’ve ever tried a crispy piece of turkey bacon just with a little more fatty texture and naturally saltier

The best comparison honestly is to smoked turkey. The juices remain inside of the the meat as well as the seasoning and smokey flavor. But it shares the same textrure almost and its the closest you can get to the juicy, salty, flavor of pork. This doesnt go for all cuts but i found pan frying really gives that imitation pork loin

I once had a vegan pork substitute that was so close to the real thing I didnt even notice it wasnt until after a few times having it. There was a Jewish bagel place by my highschool that made the best bagel you ever had, and of course I always went for the sausage egg and cheese. Admittedly pretty dumb that I didnt put 2 and 2 together until like my 4th vist, but the sausage was a tofu blend that honestly just tasted like the one of the better breakfast sausages ive had. If you can find something like that, youll know what porks like.

As a person who grew up preparing and eating pork in any way possible for as long as I could remember, if I had to make a really close guess, pork is like a hybrid of lamb and chicken breast. It's pretty much just like any other meat, it falls off the bone and gets really tough depending on how well you cook it. But what makes it really good is that the fat on it gives a sort of a really mild to no smell unlike any animal fat whenever it's rendered through the cooking process, which would make any spice or ingredient you put on it to stand out more.

i gave up pork 6 months ago after seeing horrifying videos of the pork industry, and beef bacon is simply superior. but pork is really salty, very juicy, but also chewy, except for bacon. the closest resemblance to the taste i can do is beef. just down the meat in a lot salt and that’s basically pork.

The only thing I’ve experienced that reminiscent of pork for me is having a beef pizza puff and that’s because of the sweetness of the sauce, the saltiness of the cheese, the meatiness of the beef, and the most important factor is the fennel seeds. For some reason the fennel seeds give off this smoky, savory taste in combination with the other stuff. It doesn’t 100% taste like pork but it gives hints and the essence of pork. Besides that I’ve never had anything that’s tasted like pork or even came close. Also I stopped eating pork years ago but when I have those pizza puffs sometimes I question the contents because of the taste.

As a kid, I always thought it tasted similar to how a barn smells (you could say I wasn't a fan). I liked it a bit before I stopped eating meat and would say it's a bit gamier and drier in texture than most meats, but pairs well with sweet and hot flavors like mustards or horseradish. Ham, on the other hand, still has that gamey kind of taste but is a lot moister. It's very interesting and versatile.

It is a bit chewier than beef. It tastes a little like chicken but has a beefy texture. It is definitely a bit gamey but not that much. Only the really high quality pork have zero game because they are fatter. It also doesn't have the nicest smell. Still tastes great and they make great sausage

I’d say pork tastes the closest to lamb or chicken, it’s a meat that has a bit of its own taste but not in a way like beef. It’s a pretty fatty meat, so it tastes a bit fat depending on the piece but it takes up marinates very well, so if you put BBQ sauce over it then leave it in there for a few hours and the cook/fry it, it’s gonna taste very much like the basting you put it in. It’s a meat that keeps pretty soft and quite juicy for a long time. If you manage to make a whole piece (not mince) of pork dry, you’re the final boss for Gordon Ramsay! 😂

For me who haven't eaten pork for most of my childhood, pork tastes like a mix of beef and chicken, it sounds weird but that's the best I can really describe it in a simplified way. It's not bad but it's not something I would buy often besides bacon. also I'm pretty sure that vegan meat is jackfruit since I have a vegan sister who made a pulled pork alternative which was shredded jackfruit and it matches to what you described it.

It tastes kind of like spoiled slimy beef but extra pungent. My grandfather worked in Croatia and he grew up in a communist environment so he didn't have any beliefs on God he always used to say "only work and money that's what I believe in" so it wasn't too hard for him to start eating pork and once he made some sausages and they were pork and I knew it smelled weird and tasted even weirder so after asking him a few times he admited and I immediately spat it out. I smelled it once when we were in Croatia and it smelled disgusting. To each their own I don't judge but it genuinely smelled bad to me. It was a rotisserie pork (ražanj).

I have not tasted pork before I went to Germany. In sausages and bacon etc or hamburer can't taste it, of you want to taste it really you need to eat meat itself. Better in forms of proscitto or Mettwurst, in more raw forms. A roasted pork meat tasted like chicken and meat I believe, but it was laden with salt so the taste I could not get. Proscitto or Mettwurst reminded me some Rose like flavour. I can't discribe it but the flavour is the flavour of pork, a hint of it can be tasted in much more processed forms too. Something like Rose and grass I had tasted and it was a kind of sweety meat. Can't describe it but it is something distinct. A very slight rose like aroma

One of the best meat in the world is pork. Its meat has unique structure and taste. It's skin and fat (Pork Belly) has another world taste, means you can't feel that in any other meat.

My dad’s father is a Muslim. His first and only time having pork was accidentally. One day he walked into the kitchen and saw what he thought was “Roast beef sandwiches”. He had a couple and my father came in and said “you know that’s Black Forest ham right?” After hearing that, he went straight to the toilet and forced himself to vomit. All while my dad and his siblings started laughing at him. When he was done, my dad asked him “did it taste good?”. And my grandpa replied “it was damn good!”. He doesn’t eat pork, though he does love dark beer. Guinness being one of his favourite.

So I've had initiation pork, initiation crab, and imitation beef. The imitation beef is probably the closest to it's actual counterpart in comparison to it's other imitation cousins. Pork texture looks pretty solid, as it's a weird meat that can be tough but also, when cooked right, can have a similar texture to beef, particularly in BBQ style. Pork tastes similar to how it smells, if I'm being honest, that almost fatty and savory mix, and some cuts being leaner than others also sticks out, but it's texture is about the same density as beef when it is medium rare, although pork *has* to be well done and at 175°F (I'm guessing about 67°C, but I could be wrong, so if someone corrects me I'll change it to the right number). It generally has a more salty and savory flavor, which is why it is usually paired with BBQ sauce and other sweet things to help balance it. Either way, I think pork tastes good, but I don't eat it as much as I used to because beef typically is easier to cook and can be easier to pair with things. I hope this helped a little bit

As a pork enthusiast lol, think of a spectrum with goat and beef. It definitely is more similar in flavor to beef, but it is uniquely fatty in taste, I guess think of that creamy, fatty, umami waygu flavor (much less intense of this flavor, but I'm just using that hyperbole for reference) kinda mixed with a slightly nutty mushroom flavor. It terms of texture it is soft much more like goat. It's weird though, it can be fatty in flavor, but its not that intense or a flavor like beef or goat. That's why it's common to cure it with spices like pepperoni, prosciutto, chorizo, etc. I guess think of it like chicken in that respect that it's very good at absorbing other flavors or sauces.

It's not really pork... I know few muslims who eat pork, algerians, marocans and turkish, bosnians too... They just don't eat it generally infront of other muslims, some of them tried and loved it, we are all from different areas and cultures or religions, and every muslim is not so religious today, even certain jews eat pork, yes I know 2 of them, even an egyptian (not a catholic), so nothing strange, even french muslim government woman eats pork saussage on the "Salon de l'Agriculture" on opening of the event... So it's a taboo for a lot, specially for the most religious, but some buy products containing pork and eat even if they don't know... Nobody wanna die eating pork, like I, orthodox not will die eating halal food...

More than any other type of meat, you get a totally different taste depending on which part of the pig you're eating. Pork chops, ham, bacon and tenderloin taste like they come from different animals.

Also being Canadian I have a bunch of Muslim friends. Some are devout to their faith, some drink and smoke but keep up appearances for their parents. The only consistent belief I've observed between all my Muslim friends is their strong desire to never touch pork. Not even in rude ways, they simply won't eat it if it's there or just say they do not like it. Just something I find interesting.

It definitely has a strong kinda scent depending upon how you cook it. It's texture is close to like a steak or pulled chicken. The BBQ pork or slow cooked pork definitely give a very funky smell but if you do smoke and cure it like beef bacon it is a bit better. Tldr; has meat like texture. kinda stinks a bit. Not missing anything. I have heard pulled jackfruit can be a good vegetarian alternative.

The stink is definitely from when you leave the skin on. The skin does have a stink to it but it's one of the more flavorful meats because of how fatty it is.

Well, pulled pork to me tastes slightly sweet yet savory at the same time (even without bbq sauce.) It is usually juicy (if cooked right) The flavor isn’t too strong yet it doesn’t lack tastiness.

Chicken can be juicy and succulent but also dry. It's may somewhat lack flavour in some contexts but that means it can take in other flavours, sources and sauces and works well in curries and Stir fries where it can take on all the flavours incorporated with it. Beef can be chewy and tough but also softer depending on how done it is. It has a certain texture that be juicy or drier depending on preparation and can take on flavours like smokey or charcoal and mesquite, depending on how it is cooked. Pork has a more fatty flavour and can be little dry or quite juicy, moreso when the fat is left on, it can be a little tough but also Chewy or crunchy or a little of both if the fat and skin are left on. If has a flavour unlike beef or chicken, but as you said, the actual taste itself is very hard to describe on its own.

Here in Assam(NE India), pork is very famous. So if you want to know how it tastes like, it tastes a bit creamy(the fat part) and the meat part tastes similar to chicken just a bit different

As non-muslim growing up in an muslim environment, I can describe the taste is like goat meat but without the "goat" smell. The fat is seperated from the meat, the taste of the meat and the fat is very close to goat meat with the fat but it's very rich.

I'm Muslim too and at school they had BBQ pulled pork sandwiches alongside our main lunch. There was a vegetarian substitute which was made of jackfruit. I tried it and it was pretty good. (I've obviously not tried the real thing but the BBQ jackfruit really tasted like meat tbh)

This is My description on pork (This is just based on My taste buds and this is just My opinion about it so feel free to add more to this). For Me pork depending on how you cook it, it is usually crunchy, juicy, and has ALOT of fat meaning it is really hard to chew depending on how you cook it. Pork basically has a texture similar to beef. Pork taste like beef fat and beef meat, but less flavorful I guess, if you've never eaten pork before, the following is My description: It taste a little bit like beef and the fat just quiet literally taste like beef fat but more yummy I guess, pork is usually greasy and really juicy (again depending on how you cook it), its really good and ill say it taste like 30% beef I gues and 60% fat and 10% chicken. Its very chewy and it has simple flavors but it taste wonderful. So if any Muslims or people who has never eaten pork stumbles across this comment. It taste kind of like beef except less flavorful and more on the chewy and greasy side, in fact some parts of the pork are so hard to chew that you have to bite the pork really hard and tilt your head backwards for it to come off.

As a Catholic who has had pork before, it just tastes like how bbq smells. Its kind sweet with a savory hint but thats about it. Im not sure how good that explaination even is though, cause i dont eat pork that much

Pork is very mild in it's most basic flavor, taking to most forms of seasoning very well. Depending on the cut, it can be incredibly fatty like beef brisket or other large roasting cuts, or as lean as chicken breast. It is not strongly flavored like lamb, but it is similar to the mildness of veal. There is a natural sweetness to pork that is dependent on the diet of the creature.
