Don’t fall into the trap that many do. They believe that because Dany rarely solos and more rarely shreds that it means she’s somehow lacking the skill set to do so. Dany will always incorporate what she instinctively knows the song needs on guitar. Her ego doesn’t need to prove on every track just how much talent she has with her instrument.

Dany is a total guitar nerd. Those of us who realize that expect for her to demonstrate a lot more skill that you might expect for someone her age. She doesn't upstage her sisters. She just plays the song and tastefully does whatever the song needs. If you listen closely to their studio tracks you will hear multiple layers of her guitar work. What amazes me is how much of it she can pull off live.

  • @gman125

Are those multi tracks? I honestly thought she layered and offset timing with different tones, as she played with her effect pedals, to make it sound as if their was more than one guitar playing.

@@gman125 They do use triggered tracks live, but Dany also splits and multi-amps her guitar signal multiple ways on her pedal board, playing games with octaves and slight delays, to give that "wall of sound" effect live as well. It's hard to tell sometimes which she's using, whether tracks or board splitting or both. But yeah, she's done her homework, and knows just what to put into the songs live to give them that "wall of sound".

What's surprising is not that Dany can solo, it's this type of solo. This high energy shredding is not typical of Dany. She leans more towards the soulful, expressive solo, the type inspired by David Gilmour. In fact, she has stated that hearing Comfortably Numb from the Pulse tour was a life-changing experience for her.

Ale’s bass lines often play by themselves, not following Dany’s guitar or Pau’s drums. When Dany hits a long sustain chord and sings, Ale’s bass line takes the wheel and drives the song. They go back and forth seamlessly, which is insane. Dany can solo like the best of them. She’s not quite up to Yngwie Malmsteen level, but she is a great soloist. My thoughts are that back in the day, rock songs were repetitive, so solos were used to spice things up and to distinguish one song from another. The Warning has so much color in their songs that solos aren’t really needed and only serve as accent flavors.

Great comment! Their songs don’t really need shredding solos because they are already lyrically, musically and compositionally interesting. No one can speak for Dany but I personally believe she prefers more short and melodic solos anyways which in no way shape or form defines her proficiency as a guitarist. I also believe Dany would never compromise her lead vocalist duties to accentuate her prowess as a guitarist. They only need to prove to themselves how gifted they are as musicians and I find that to be an incredibly admirable trait as a band.

Lzzy Hale actually went back do her band and said, "I need to practice" after listening to Dany play guitar while in tour. Dany is kinda like Clapton. She has the chops but she likes to keep her solos within the pocket of the song.

some Fun Facts: 1. *Z* has been their opener for numerous concerts... 2. the title of this song, "Z", is short for "GenZ" or "Generation Z"... they thought it to be "too much" so they shortened it to just "Z"... 3. yes, they do reference their song *Kool-Aid Kids* in the 2nd verse: Wear the blindfold, drink the tide Who will we destroy this time? Revolutionary Kool-Aid kids Happiness, the lowly traitor Kill the raw, one like, one prayer Disappointing how we're used to fall (I think that you should) 4. this song, a cup of c0ffee, and a donut are the perfect start to the day! 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

This song kicks your ass when standing on the rail, at one of their shows. Pau & Ale thump the living crap out of you. The person behind me stopped me from flipping over backwards as those deep bass notes slammed against me, like Jet afterburner pops. Dany's Raw ripping guitar tone shredded what was left of me, as I stood there with my jaw dropped watching her energetically run a marathon race around that stage, as her fingers forced that custom PRS to do her bidding. Rock Goddesses!! 🤘⚡🤘

The great thing about musicians reacting is their ability to highlight nuances that separate great artists from the rest. Yes, you are on point about Ale's bass in this song. When an average bassist will reflect the strokes of the main riff Ale chose to play differently to give it more punch. Subtle things like this go unnoticed by many reactors & music listeners. And then some say The Warning are average musicians. Its one thing that a leading bass maker recognizes your talent & makes a signature bass just for you. But its completely different when you dedicate yourself in mastering that tool. Ale had done that over past 3 years ever since she got the "Alejandra Villarreal Spector USA Signature 5 String Bass" in "Ale's Inferno" finish in fall of 2020 as a 15 year old. She has changed the sound of The Warning with intricate plucking of her custom bass. Almost every song in Error album sounds so bouncy - like a taut spring with recoil - thanks to Ale's strong fingers & her high action style. Here is Ale demonstrating her strength by splitting an apple with bare hands 2 years back kzread.infoyDhOvr1stU0

So true! I think Ale’s jazz influences allow for that…to play independent from the main theme at times. It’s really awesome and sets her apart from the classic rock style I grew up listening to where the bass mostly held the low end and accompanied percussion most of the time. How many songs do TW have Ale’s bass do the lead in? It sets the tone for the song.

  • @robertott1172

I agree with you about Ale's skills, but it doesn't take strength to split an apple that way. Hold it top side up with a good grip and pull apart at the bottom. The trick us to have an apple large enough so you can get a good grip on it.

The cool thing about the opening riff, to me, is that they're inverted, not following each other - bass goes down, gutiar goes up, and vie-versa. Gives it that drive.

  • @mt4design2
    @mt4design211 ай бұрын

I love Dany's organic approach to guitar. Her first priority is usually carrying the vocals so everything she does has to allow for that but she'll often be playing ridiculously complex guitar parts, even shadowing her vocals while she's singing. But, when she does a solo, she reminds me more of Gilmour or Clapton. Even Brian May maybe. It isn't how many notes she plays or how many runs she gets through it's all about the feel behind the notes. Need it to wail and weep a little? She can do that. Need it to soar and be etherial? She can do that. Need it to shred? She can do that. As a three piece, t isn't her number one priority, but when she gets the chance you can tell she LOVES the opportunity. No fear. She'll literally run to the front to stand out. Just before her solo in Z, Dany drops out vocally and does a little pre-solo at 7:18 that has so much texture and emotion within...and we get to hear Pau and Ale take over the vocal duties. Go back and listen to that little moment. Everything within those few bars is just brilliant and you get to see just how this band has no evident weakness what so ever. Great reaction guys! Love your new video by the way.

As a strictly amateur guitar player my observations are not too comprehensive, but while the focus is on what Dany is singing the actual lines or patterns she is playing on guitar are often different than I would expect. All three of them can be doing different things at the same time without appearing to be stretching. This can be seen in their earlier work, too, but they're just getting better at it all the time.

Dany’s solos always serve the song overall. This solo was about escalation/progression where it started out relatively tame but became more energetic/frantic as it went on. Ale and Pau followed that escalation on their instruments as well. When I saw The Warning recently, this was the second song they played after opening with “Disciple.”

Good random choice for sure, but then I have not found anything I did not like from this show. I really love how well they blend so many different musical genres into a sound that is easily recognizable as The Warning. Saw them twice when they used this as their show opener. Really gets the crowd going. I love the idea of this as a punk bop. I need to go back in Dizzy Gilespie's catalog to find a similar bass line.

If you'd like a closer look and listen to this song "Z" and several others, The Warning has a list of live sessions from 1 and 2 years ago. You can get the same feel and sound of live performance minus the crowd and without any long-distance far-off camera shots. I love these studio live session performances and hope the can find the time to do a few more in the future. Although it seems like the live concert performances are replacing them now the business and their schedules have picked up. These live sessions are also a really good example of how they not only practiced the playing of the songs, but the performance as well.

It interests me what a another musician reactor said about Dany. Does she ever look at her guitar when she is playing. After that I watched she really doesn't except in Z. The confidence it takes to keep your eyes solely on the crowd engaging them while playing and doing g lead vocals. She has been asked about the lack solos her answer is always if a so g needs it she does it most songs don't need one it's about the band not her. Bendeth called Dany the leader of not just the band of the entire Warning project. She demands first everything of herself and the best of everyone around her. She is just so nice about it nobody realizes it's demanded.

Excellent guys! Thanks so much! Sorry Chris, no chance for a marathon because I watch the reactions when they come out! When you guys really start to get low on The Warning material "Free Falling" from one of their earliest shows at their school is worth checking out. It's the first song they wrote together and it's actually kinda' catchy.

Dany can really play, she just doesn't do it much. A good example is their original cover of Enter Sandman when they were very young. I think Dany is 14.

Alright, this rabbit hole has no end... tapping out after 4 hours. really enjoy recaps. Not being musically technical or blessed, appreciate your breakdown of what you see and hear. From the song structure, skills, to the overall execution and performances. Watched your video for "Watch it Burn".. took me back to HS in LA (in the Hollywood area in the early to mid 80's). Good stuff. Good to see you guy are also have fun preforming. I may take my old ass out to see you guy (with my brothers) when you have your next LA gigs!.

I like that Dany, Ale, or Pau, don't do many solos, although all three have the ability to do so. For years it seems like bands wrote songs around guitar solos instead of adding a good guitar solo when the song called for it, and it was much the same with bass and drum solos. Bands would turn a great 4 1/2-minute song into a 30-minute ordeal where you couldn't even remember what song they were playing {hyperbole}. I know that many people disagree with me, but in my opinion, if every song has a long drawn-out solo it gets tedious really quickly. That's why when Dany, Ale, or Pau do a great solo everyone takes notice because it's a rare occurrence, it's a treat instead of something predictable. I have never heard them do a solo that didn't fit the song.

Z is for Gen Z, and if the album has a concept, it is how them and their generation view the world and the struggles they face that other generations haven't really had to deal with between social media and all the technology they basically had from birth.

Want another tasty solo from Dany, check out the OMV of XXI Century Blood. I think she was 15 or 16 when they recorded the video but it is a great solo.

Guys, something meaningless, but thoughtful. CDMX means CD = Cuidad meaning "City" and of course MX is Mexico. So its Teatro Metropolitano, Cuidad de (City of) Mexico. Their names could easily be "Play & Slay" because thats what they do.

As a rule, Dany doesn't take real solos (I'm certainly not saying she can't). You'll find by listening to various performances of the same song that what sounded like a "solo" is played note for note the same in every performance, which isn't what is usually meant by "taking a solo." Personally, I grew up and no longer watch bands to hear lengthy guitar or drum solos.
