I was so full of joy, when I got to know Lovebites and saw Miho playing like Steve Harris...! 😀 And she even shares his excellence! 😄 Lovebites' "Golden Destination", "Wicked Witch", "My Orion" - all hommages to Iron Maiden, in my opinion. The best storytelling Metal Band is worth it. 😁 🤘

You guys are the kind of reactors I appreciate because you have more to say other than "wow, that was cool!" If you're wanting to get off the reactor beaten path and check out something new you should check out some of the Japanese punk bands. For They don't get as much love from reactors as the metal and rock bands do but they are still very good. My favorite is Otoboke Beaver. They do this off kilter punk and hardcore punk. Maybe try Love Is Short.

Such a great observation. Yes, the bassist and the drummer are bonded so tightly to each other. As a matter of fact, the bassist and the drummer played together in a legendary all female Japanese band Destrose before Lovebites. The bassist called the drummer for starting a new band when Destrose had disbanded, then they found the other members thereafter. They've been playing together for long time, and their combination makes Lovebites sounds so heavy and chunky.

This song is really quite the endurance check to play fingerstyle on bass. It's at 225bpm and I probably wouldn't wanna play it as a set opener. That being said, it's a damn lot of fun to play on bass :) What I and a lot of other bassists do (and I THINK Miho does this, too) to play fast 3-note gallop-patterns like this fast and clean is to incorporate your third finger to do it and play the normal 8th-note lines with just 2 fingers as usual. There are different approaches to this of course.

Thank you for following LOVEBITES. The pentagram on the Haruna drum is not a Western pentagram. The pentagram is surrounded by a wolf representing the five girls. In Japan, the five elements of yin and yang, which became the basic concept of Yin-Yang Tao, or the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, expressed their conflicting functions, and the pentagram was valued as a talisman to ward off all kinds of evil. Thus, the pentagram represents the protection of these women.

Many bass player who cut their teeth on Iron Maiden, Rush, and The Who have that kind of endurance. Miho is a huge Iron Maiden disciple. Interesting note is that in the auditions it came down to Fami and another player who was a strict picker. John Entwistle and Marcus Grosskopf are 2 players who would switch pick or fingers depending the song.

One thing that makes Miho’s bass playing so much easier, especially on faster songs that have that gallup feel on a riff is the use of her ring finger. If you look at the riff being played during the verse, she’s using her ring finger during the triplets on the low E string to match what Miyako and Midori are doing. Most people see finger picking on a bass as only using 2 fingers, but it’s obviously easier when you can use your finger as a pick, or are able to use multiple fingers as it makes the 16th note patterns much easier. Also, you’re close on this song. Miho wrote this song after seeing Slayer perform at Download Festival in 2018.

Good one guys, not a bad opening especially in those straight jacket Sgt. Pepper outfits. Miho (original bassist and founder who put this group together) and Haruna/drums played in Destrose ( spawned many of the great female bands you guys are now discovering) together so they are locked in for a long time. How Haruna at 4' 9" played in that straight jacket is beyond me. Five of a Kind was their last live show before COVID destroyed their plans and world tour. You will discover all their influences if you go through the entire concert Again a great song but still not in their top 10 IMHO, but that tells you just how insane the talent is in this band. Most of the Japanese bassists play with their fingers and start it at a young age.

Soon you will realize that you are watching the most talented band on earth. They are all top level musicians and their song writing/composition is at the highest level. If that it not enough; Miyako and Midori playing lead harmonies is unmatched, all the great bands with two guitarist have never had the chemistry to play harmonizing leads that are so locked in/technical like these ladies.

You need to listen to that again. She wasn't hitting "all the wrong notes." It's a particular modal quality used in Metal lead playing quite a lot. Sounds strange at first but if you go back to that part you'll hear that it isn't out of key or anything like that. Sam is right. The bassist isn't doing the gallops in the rhythms. She's playing more of a straight, driving rhythm with the drummer.
