small note, with "the momoiro clover z thing going on over here" that's pretty much just more generally common to asian concerts. these are usually penlights, battery powered lights that can get pretty fancy and advanced. specific to japan with anime franchises and idol stuff, some crack really bright glowsticks (ultra oranges, due to the color, usually called UOs) during really fun portions. additionally, the franchise name, bang dream, is a play on words. in japanese it would be like "ban dorimu." specifically to also sound like "band dream," it reflects the dreams, the hopes and wishes, of all the ladies to reach their goals. there's lots of in-universe character lore, but the irl stories of the VAs as part of the franchise are also great as well.

My favorite part of BanG Dream is how many of these girls, from the 4 bands that do play live, actually learned to play their instruments for this project. The lead singer for RAS was a singer before but learned to play the bass for this band. It’s crazy how they took what are essentially a bunch of singers and voice actresses and made them into really banger bands!

Yes! Considering the project started in 2015, they had just few years to learn the instruments before starting performing, and they all look like seasoned musicians! It's crazy!!

just to correct a bit of misinfo, Raychell actually knew bass before being chosen for RAS but it is true that she was mainly a singer before. she used to study jazz (or blues i forgot, but jazz takes a lot of influence from blues) and so she had a very jazz-influenced style of singing e.g. she places the downbeat of a song on the upbeat, etc. when she started singing more pop and rock, she said that she had a hard time keeping on-beat due to her previous musical background, so someone suggested that she pick up the bass to help her keep on-beat. the bass did in fact help her in keeping time and she continued playing the bass, to the point she performed as a basisst for different bands and events before eventually playing for bandori.

Also sometimes forgotten about - this was the BACKING band for the non-performing bands (Afterglow, Hello Happy World, Pastel Palettes) when the lead singers of those bands performed. Bang Dream was doing so good as a franchise (pre-pandemic) that Bushiroad (the company behind Bang Dream) thought - “why not turn our backing band into a actual band” - and thus they became Raise A Suilen. Lastly, they added a 7th band named Morfonica though sadly they’re not as known because the pandemic hit during their debut period. They also perform live, and I’d expect if they add more bands to Bang Dream, they’ll also be live bands and no longer require a backing band.

Incorrect. The four members of RAS all started learning instruments way before except for the DJ girl. You cannot learn the keyboard, drums and guitar at their level in a few years. It's not possible.

BanG Dream! is a Japanese music media franchise that started off in 2015 as a Manga series about all-female rock bands. BanG Dream! includes an anime television series, live concerts, singles and albums, and the mobile game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! The franchise is based around all-female bands whose members are also voice actresses in the anime and mobile game; as of 2021, the project has seven groups. The first band, Poppin'Party, was formed in February 2015, and further groups were introduced in 2017 with the launch of the mobile game: Afterglow, Pastel Palettes, Roselia, and Hello, Happy World! In 2018, a backup band called The Third was renamed Raise A Suilen and joined the series, followed by a seventh unit named Morfonica in 2020. For live performances, Poppin'Party, Roselia, Raise A Suilen, and Morfonica's band-members play their own music, while the others are limited to vocals. BanG Dream! may be the first instance of bands being formed explicitly to portray characters in a Manga, or comic book, series. The high level of instrumental proficiency further cements Japan’s place as the world’s home of top-tier female rock musicians.

I think Outsider Rodeo is my favorite song from this group. This is also my favorite band out of the all the bands from the Bang Dream franchise.

This is the very first performance of Drive us crazy from I believe july of 2019. One of my favorites. If you are looking for more solo performances of RAS pre-covid, there are plenty of shows post covid but no crowd noise, there is Craziness from early 2020 and The Creation we are Raise a suilen from December 2019. Some other good ones to check out are the 2021 Zepp Tour, Bang Dream 9th live Mythology, Repaint and one my personal favorites Rausch und/and Craziness.

a mediocre explanation to raise a suilen is that it’s a fictional band, where the members’ (who are fictional anime girls) voice actors also play the instruments that their fictional counterparts play, and they do concerts where they play the fictional bands songs together. also RAS is the only bang dream band, where the fictional characters where inspired from their voice actors, which i think is pretty cool :)

DJ "cute" kinda high pitched voice vocalist= Kobato. Bassist "bad ass" singer with deep voice= Saiki, just something that came to mind when hearing and seeing them. although completely different style of music

Midori and Miyako do the guitar and keytar combo on the song LOVEBITES song "Spellbound." It's pretty sweet how they do it live. Anyway, RaS looks like a fun band. The kawaii vocals will take some getting used to, and I wouldn't call what Raychell is doing on the bass "slaying." She's steady and all, but everything I've heard from RaS has had a fairly simplistic bass line. That's fine, not every band and not every song needs Miyu or Geddy, and Michael Anthony, Dusty Hill, Cliff Williams have all had great careers playing easy bass. She certainly has a great voice, she's quite attractive, and she has a cool look with her stances and expressions. RaS will be playing at Summer Sonic Festival and will share a stage with Maximum the Hormone, The Offspring, and BAND-MAID during the Chiba show.

I think all the bands in BanG project have KZread videos . Dicodec has also reacted to Roselia. And these bands, because of their tie-in to the manga, anime and game draw really large crowds and lots of KZread views. One of the Roselia videos has had 7 million views in 2 years. So far, of the ones I've viewed, Rose A Suilen seems to be the best. But they are all solid pop rock bands.p

I think I recognize some of these girls from another band (or maybe this band with a different name?) This was several years ago, maybe 2014/15/16? Or maybe it was the debut of the band in 2018? I don't see the lead singer/Bass listed in other bands, and she's the one that triggered my memory! Anyway, another great band coming from characters in an Anime ... Walkurie, with the great Juanna as lead singer! They don't play instruments, but with musicians backing them up such as 'Boh' the Bassist from BABYMETAL ... well, it they are good enough for him, they're good enough for everyone ... this is more 'pop' than rock (and definitely not metal) but it's great 'pop' and the singing is incredible. I subbed since you were digging the bang dream awesomeness. You should check out Roselia if you haven't already, they are another band from the bang dream franchise and pretty much every song by them is sick. A few of my favs are "Ringing Bloom", "Neo-Aspect", "Song I Am", "Fire bird", "Sing Alive" and they even have some cool collab songs like the song "Skyclad Observer" where they collab with kanako ito, who is the singer that performs some of the music for the anime "Steins Gate", :D

That moment in the movie worst the shitty 3D in the second season, hands down. Raise a Suilen are tied with Roselia for my favorite in the franchise. TBF, I still unfamiliar with Morfonica, and they have violin in there, which is always a treat in the heavier rock-music, so they might join the triad (unlikely to surpass).

The voice is great. Reminds me of the women in 80's metal. Top of the list being Doro Pesch of Warlock. Cherie Currie of the Runaways, and Jinx Dawson of Coven. Would have to hear more from the group to know if I am with the music though. Definitely grew on me as the song went on. I am not a real fan of the current female groups that are mixing good traditional metal with what sounds like to me as GWAR and Slipknot. The raspy throat screaming is awful.

People wanted to see the artists behind the anime bands. So BangDream started bringing them out and I think this group was the first? (Unsure) Big success. So - a suilen is a bamboo curtain. "Raise a Curtain" - revealing the human band. They did. I personally like Raychelle's natural but beautifully controlled vibrato much more than Asami's which often goes way overboard on amplitude for me. Both have great voices but this vocal approach is more listenable IMHO. My second fave band from this "franchise" is Rosalia.

raise a suilen being the first big success? i'd think that they're probably one of the more popular bands and the most popular at the moment, but the franchise was started with poppin' party, and followed by roselia. tickets can be a hassle to get for both of them. there was an earlier point where they struggled because they got too ambitious with merchandising, but bandori was already a big success, and RAS made it bigger.

Me too, but u know Rokka have a lot of experience before bangdream, meanwhile KudoHaru learns to play guitar to this project. She is good, i hope she will plays better in the future too.
