Love this! How about adding how it FEELS in a song? Like have some music playing while you count the beats and point out which one is the accented beat. I teach a Music Apprec class which is partially online. Short videos like this are essential since I have limited "face time" with my students.

Great video, but you didn't give the Strong, Medium, Weak of the more difficult times like 5/4 and 6/8. So if that's an idea for a part two of this, that would be cool.

Mr Beeken great videos by the way. But I don't know if you have the answer to this. But when I saw your ad on Instagram I check your channel out. I'm glad I did. But what was the music in the back ground of the Instagram ad OHHHHH I can't find it I've been looking for the name of it for years!

I am confused unfortunately. Your explanations totally make sense, (And I like the funny style) but I miss a strong connection to the actual sound of the different variations. I would have preferred the concepts being mashed later (in different videos?) after I had time to get comfortable with their sounds for a few seconds.

The only thing that this video lacks is some example of how to emphasize the note.

I am confused about 4/2. How do you convert 4/4 to 4/2?
@mr.beeken8647
7 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and good question!! Well, as you might have noticed, they are not mathematically equivalent. However, they sound pretty much the same if you are sitting in the audience. The reason is that the number of beats in the measure is the same. Which means the emphasis in the phrasing will be either the same or very similar. There are probably some subtle difference when you ask professors at a music school but in theory, you would only use 4/2 or 4/4 when you want the music to be easier to read. They wouldn't sound different if you kept everything the same.

Is it possible to simplify the time signature just like fractions? For example 6 to 3 8 to 4
@andrewsmith414
5 жыл бұрын
You could, but by doing so, you would change the meter from a compound meter (In 6/8, the two beats are divided into groups of three) into simple meter (in 3/4 the three beats are divided into groups of two). 6/8 and 3/4 have the same amount of rhythmic "space" in them (both can fit 3 quarter notes in before moving to the next measure), but the rhythmic emphasis is totally different.
