One of the classic ways to promoting an album is usually done by creating a beef between an artist and another artist. It's just like example two fighter like let's say Connor McGregor when he was going to fight Floyd Mayweather; it created a peek in interest resulting in more sales for the fight. Same for rap. I believe that most beefs(with the exception of PAC and Biggie) are usually created as a method to sell more albums. At the end of the day it makes sense!
