Mr. Weaver, they are going to have an awful number of lawsuits. Most of which are going to be against them. There are like a buzzillion vocals that sound exactly like that. The vast majority of which were written before said whiney plaintiff. I think that the biggest problem with these people is that they really don't know how to sing. I think this may be manifesting itself in the need to start a lawsuit on account of the shortcomings and feelings of inadequacies amongst a dimwitted industry that doesn't know how to make real music. We should all pray that Robert Johnson doesn't come back from the grave to sue the lead singer to Steppen Wolf.

I think it'll increase the demand for creativity. If it gets to the point where AI can create any particular flavor of boilerplate, then artists who can do more than just mimic micro genres will be in higher demand.

taste is something that can develop over time, just like a muscle. One of the best ways to develop taste is to go listen to a bunch of music, obscure or popular, that you wouldn't normally listen to. Most people don't seem to have taste because they don't get out of their comfort zone and are comfortable being spoon fed whatever comes up in popular culture.

What Rick meant by saying “they only know what they’ve heard” is that the listener cannot make new sounds without the creator to lead you in the direction to feel their art so they cannot even tell them selves what they want, but only what they already like.

The thing about that Google Music AI is like all AI tools, they’re haphazard, janky and don’t work (or sound) all the time. But you have to remember that this technology is developing at such a rapid pace that it’ll only be a few years before it begins stealing and creating something interesting, or is integrated with some kind of DAW that allows it to use decent virtual instruments to make music. Musicians already have to fight tooth and nail for what little revenue streams they have, and though I don’t know exactly how this will be used in the future, it’ll be used by someone to make money without having to hire a real person.

  • @benirodriguez9516

@@Herfinnur I see your point... still there should be clarity in job titles. A beat producer, should produce "beats" and no songs/tracks, which is what a "producer" should be all about. If making film music, as it is more orchestral, that should be a film music composer/producer... the composer writes the music, the producer makes it happen... Usually today one does both jobs. I recognize that Rubin may apport his "mojo" into the music, by means of communicating with the artists, but I wouldn't call myself a "Producer" if I was him. I'd try to find a more fitting name for today's standards.

I think a lot of people here in the comments, and you as well Weever, aren’t understanding how insane the MusicLM is. I get your comment about the sounds and some content being “generic”, but it’s not pulling sounds from a sample or preset library. It’s generating a stereo mix from scratch, within seconds, from a sentence of text, using a neural net that was trained on stereo audio files. It’s not like it’s running a DAW in the background (god forbid it learns how to do that). That’s fucking bonkers and an incredible achievement for everyone involved, while also being extremely concerning for us musicians. Remember when that AI generated art piece won an art contest and we all laughed? We’re fucking next.

I really hate how Betty (Get Money) and other songs that ruined great original tracks and turning into lazy reboots (such as Twinkle Twinkle Little B*tch by Leah Kate and I'm Good (Blue) by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha) became popular last year due to TikTok's awful music taste.

You might as well embrace it and look for whatever creative possibilities it presents because it's not like you have a choice anyway. There's nothing anybody is going to say or do which is going to stop it.

The AI thing is fucking strange to me. I mean why wouldn't you start with like Heallthcare and trying to figure out how to cure something, but they're like"no, let's just fuck over the arts in general." Like the other day a guy prompted a generation of a time lapse of the milky way going over Joshua Tree. Not only did it fail to be what had been intended what's the purpose even if it did?? Basically, it devalues the act of going out there and doing the work of capturing the images, but to what end?? So, someone could say they got an algorithm to spit it out?? Other than grossly devaluing the work that goes into creating art, why would someone want to create AI music, art, or images?? Ultimately, it's all based on a data-set scraped from existing art and without the continued out put of real artists it will just become a feedback loop, but damnit if they haven't put the squeeze on actual artists for from what I can see no other reason than to say that they can.

You know what that is, ego. Trying to appear godlike, where they claim they have some god given talent and it just flows thru them... the only thing flowing thru Rick Rubin is some potato chip crumbs in that greasy beard... He's also a wizard and heavily into occult witchcraft.. not even kidding.

To be fair, I’ve met a guy who was musically illiterate but could play amazing jazz piano when he was drunk. And many musicians in the past knew very little music theory. Doesn’t mean they are good at everything, but they can be good at something without having a way to verbalize it.

You're misdirecting. The problem is capitalism, not AI. This has happened time and again -- technology automates away a certain amount or type of labor, a reactionary workforce blames the technology, the owners of the means of production profit, the working class is worse off, rinse, repeat. It's not going to stop without fundamentally changing the whole socioeconomic system. A bunch of atomized musicians whining about computers taking their jobs isn't going to change that and, should anyone get the idea to push back by strengthening IP law, that will only make things worse for both artists and consumers. You gotta collectivize.

id like to hear AI generated Captain Beefheart. halfway joking, but im not too worried about AI generated music. its not very original. Go and listen to some Frank Zappa or even stuff like John Coltrane. the AI generated stuff that is anywhere passable is djent/distorted chuggy metal, because djent/nu-metal music can sound mushy and simple anyway. When you start to listen to FLAC recordings of super creative music even from the 70s you realize AI is way far off. What this should inspire us EDM guys to do is really push EDM forward and be original. Use humanization and experimentation with music theory and complex rhythms. Again, from 1 EDM artist to others, you guys should go back and listen to stuff like Frank Zappa. try out hot rats
