Music for a Cruel King - Knight Tales

Музыка

An ode to the oppressed, the broken, the poor, the peasants. Their sacrifice taught us everything we know about tyrants. What they wear, how they speak, how they lie, where they are weak.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

I trust you. [sees Brienne staring] There it is. There's the look. I've seen it for 17 years on face after face. You all despise me. Kingslayer. Oathbreaker. A man without honor. You've heard of wildfire? Brienne of Tarth: Of course. Jaime Lannister: The Mad King was obsessed with it. He loved to watch people burn, the way their skin blackened and blistered and melted off their bones. He burned lords he didn't like. He burned Hands who disobeyed him. He burned anyone who was against him. Before long, half the country was against him. Aerys saw traitors everywhere. So he had his pyromancer place caches of wildfire all over the city. beneath the Sept of Baelor and the slums of Flea Bottom. Under houses, stables, taverns. Even beneath the Red Keep itself. Finally, the day of reckoning came. Robert Baratheon marched on the capital after his victory at the Trident. But my father arrived first with the whole Lannister army at his back, promising to defend the city against the rebels. I knew my father better than that. He's never been one to pick the losing side. I told the Mad King as much. I urged him to surrender peacefully. But the king didn't listen to me. He didn't listen to Varys who tried to warn him. But he did listen to Grand Maester Pycelle, that grey, sunken cunt. "You can trust the Lannisters," he said. "The Lannisters have always been true friends of the crown." So we opened the gates and my father sacked the city. Once again, I came to the king, begging him to surrender. He told me to... bring him my father's head. Then he... turned to his pyromancer. "Burn them all," he said. "Burn them in their homes. Burn them in their beds." Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive, would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then? [Brienne stares at him in stunned silence] First, I killed the pyromancer. And then when the king turned to flee, I drove my sword into his back. "Burn them all," he kept saying. "Burn them all." I don't think he expected to die. He- he meant to... burn with the rest of us and rise again, reborn as a dragon to turn his enemies to ash. I slit his throat to make sure that didn't happen. That's where Ned Stark found me. Brienne of Tarth: If this is true... why didn't you tell anyone? Why didn't you tell Lord Stark? Jaime Lannister: Stark? You think the honorable Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me. By what right does the wolf judge the lion? By what right!? [collapses] Brienne of Tarth: Help! Help! The Kingslayer! Jaime Lannister: Jaime. My name is Jaime.......

I think the king who reflects this the most was Louis XVI. the last king of france. The king who sworn up a revolution, sorry I mean, who sworn up THE revolution, the LA REVOLUTION! The revolution, that has shown the people that WE are the TRUE FORCE of the country and not the ruler! "When you starve and you're hungry why don't just eat cake when you have no bread?" ~ Marie Antoinette of Austria (Wife of Louis XVI.)

Maria Antoinette did not say that. It is simply wrong. It is now believed that someone purposely intrigued against her. I would give you the source but it is written in German. I don’t agree with your argument at all. What you are saying is that crowds have the power. But truth is that the individuals forming the crowd have nothing (=Thesis 1). They are just robots doing what someone else tells them. This person controlling the crowd has the most power not the crowd itself (=Thesis 2). As an example: Thesis 1: The ocean is pretty dangerous but a single water droplet not. Thesis 2: The ocean alone isn’t unsafe (except if you cannot swim) but because of atmospherical (storms), geological (earthquakes) and gravitational effects (moon) it can be deadly. You should read The crowd: A study of the popular mind by Gustave Le Bon. Keep in mind that it was published 1895 when reading it. “Rulers” (in your case kings) were not really ruling the country. Lets be honest. They had advisers telling them what to do. Lobbyists telling them what to do. The list goes on and on. And keep in mind that not only one ruler ruins a country. It takes more than one person.

@@agiii7425 Lets start at the beginning. Yes true, youre right, she PROPABLY did not say that - but it's not proven, I just checked mutliple sources on the internet and they all said - She propably didn't say that, not that she did not say that - HUGE difference ^^ 1) I didnt not say that the people have the power - I did not say that. I said the people are the true FORCE of the country, not that they have the strengh and the power to overthrow the government. But when you, as a ruler do just care for yourself and you rule the country in a way that just benefits YOU - It wont take long until other powerful persons among the people will start assembling and uniting the people. 2) I dont agree with you on your thesises. The "robots" how you call them, have their own indiviual minds and they're following someone who is showing them a way how to damage/overthrow the target - They are part of something, of a group or a crowd. Their plan is not to chop everyone head off, like Robespierre did (He was one of the "most powerful" people in the la revolution) and the people did not follow them because he had the right things to do or the best way to solve the problems by chopping everyones head off - the people followed him because they we're afraid of him! 3) And last but not least. I am really sorry to tell you that you can't be more wrong. Since Louis XIV. there were no such things as "advisors" - the king was absolute. No one had the right to speak against his demands. The king was for the first time in history a "real" king. I think when Louis XVI. really had advisors that told him what to do, the la revolution never would have happend, because often shown in history - best example the prussian rulers and their main-advisor Bismarck. You can agrue what ever you want and I am more than happy that you started this conversation and im really thankful for your detailed answer - But you wont change my mind. The true force of the country will be the people! That a fact. It depends on the ruling party or the ruler itself what you do with this force, among the A.H. the people became a weapon; among Abraham Lincoln the people became freedom fighters; among Xi Jinping (the ruler of China) the people become a self-contained system; among Kim Jong-Un the people become weapons for tyranny again; In all greater countries of europe the people become part of a powerful economy system. What I want to say is: different rulers and different parties make the force always to something different. But the true power always will be the people because they decide completly on their own, if they follow or not.

@@KurakkaYT then there are kings like Tsar Nicolas who freed serfs from their slavery and sought to bring modernized amenities to his nation. Something that was actually going as expected. Slow and painful. But then WW1 and more importantly the German plan to send back communist ideologue Vladimir Lenin to whip up a revolution. The Tsar and his family killed, while most nobles either fled, switched sides and became important members in the new provincial government, or bought their security. A cruelty is often a matter of perspective and it is only agreed upon by history after the victor is decided. The only difference between a great man and a tyrant is the skill of their propagandists

I have no idea why, but I used to make up characters as a kid, like with backstories and how they related to other characters and everything but never wrote them down or created anything with them. But this brought back memories of a mentor character who was beautiful, kind and mysterious and guiding the protagonist in their journey to discover and control new abilities and the protagonists falls deeply into a trusting or even romantic relationship with them only for the guy to turn out to be a power hungry monster who was only nurturing them to steal their power later or use them in some way. The music here could be seen as sad at first and without the voice, strings and chords in the piece the music could easily be happy, peaceful, and bittersweet. In a good story it would be a great way to signal that he's been this way the whole time. The music not changing, but revealing hidden layers. The sudden shock that he was never our friend, that the protagonist allowed this person into intimate parts of their life and had been in danger the entire time. You cannot be betrayed when the whole relationship was a lie. And suddenly small character flaws that were cute or even just a part of the guys personality are big red flags that the protagonist should have noticed, and the reader/audience almost feel guilty for not having seen it themselves or believing they were just another important character getting a slow redemption arch or a "change of mentality as I get to know my student and learning from this person as I teach them" type of story.
