Ending 3 isn't everybody's favourite but it's the one with the deepest message. It basically references a lot of future events in the show that's unknown to the viewers. You'll only get to appreciate Ending 3 when you're almost done with the show. It really shows how much the writer planned and foreshadowed events which is kinda the beauty of AOT.

There's something so beautifully eerie about the third outro that just really brings me way back. Way back to when I knew nothing, most people knew nothing. It was all so shrouded in mystery, and the visuals left so many questions and now they are the answers. It's so crazy how this song legitimately kind of makes me nostalgic for the characters, the story, the AOT world but also for MY world, my old self, the one that at a tender age watched this and was so enthralled and still is with this series. I think this has to be my favorite outro. So strangely eerie, evil, and so beautiful.

ED 3 captures the huge overarching mystery aspect of the series the most out of any op/ed in the anime, theres always facts/mysteries about the world in the series that people dont know and the whole aspect of [SPOILERS] The medieval manuscript styled story of Ymir and it's spin on her receiving the powers from the devil show how (assuming as a hypothetical that the manuscript images actually existed in-universe as history for the Eldians) puts on display how no one knows the truth of the world they live in, then again I doubt the Eldians themselves would have depicted their Founder as inherting powers from the devil so it's likely that those manuscripts of Ymir and her children devouring her were made by marleyans or another civilization that got subjugated by the Eldians, idk where I'm going with this tbh but suffice to say I love the world of AoT even if a large majority of it is pretty obscured in terms of world building for like 90% of the series, something about the blend of the similar progression of our own history (cause no lore can really be better then our own) with the primordial/fantasy aspect of the Titans is such a great setting. Sorry that was a whole lot of words, I'm not the best at putting it out well.

You'd especially be able to notice this with the shot of the 3 girls eating Ymir's flesh below the first king to pass on the founding titan. Really a genius ED. when you're watching it at the time, you think it's about how titans almost wiped out humanity until the walls were built. But when you finish the story, you know it's actually about the acts of Eldians against Marley. Ties in with the whole point of the show. When you first watch it, you feel sorry for 'humanity' (Eldians), but later on you realise the people shown were actually Marleyans.

While ending 7 is a masterpiece in so many ways and a majority favorite, ending 6 is the one that will always stick with me and touches me in a really profound way. I feel like its painfully but beautifully wistful atmosphere truly captures the feeling of the unfortunate, inevitable future ahead. How so many nameless characters in this show who may not have had any true screentime are still caught in this fate without any choice. How their departure from the world will likely go by silently and unnoticed. Still, they were here, led meaningful lives, and should be remembered.

Honestly though! Don't even make a big deal about the visuals spoiling you! It doesn't spoil anything as long as you don't have context about it or stare at each frame of the visuals too much. As a veteran Anime Watcher, the reason they create this openings/outro is unlike western shows, not just a refresher but to hype up the season/arc. People only say it's spoilers because they already watched further into the anime, without context it's not something to make fuss about. Not appreciating the visuals of the OP/ED is kinda sad, cuz it dances with the music

I love how weird the 3rd ending is. It's when the deeper hints really start creeping to the surface. The unerving sound of it just really sets the tone for whats to come. Like, it's the sound of wanting to know secrets you wished you never knew in the end. The feeling of the music itself is kind of like black metal. On the surface it is harsh and unpleasant, but then theres an atmosphere within it which seems completely unique. I haven't heard alot of black metal admittedly, but this is the case for the band Burzum at least. Unpleasent sounds with an unforgettable mood. Thats what the 3rd ending feels like to me.

Man that precision in the making of music though! Even the lyrics are calling back on previous openings in past tense form. Example at 18:43 「心臓を捧げよ」[shinzou wo sasageyo] (give your heart) becomes 「心臓を捧げた」[shinzou wo sasageta] (gave your heart) with the exact same rythm as in op3 just for that line. Maniacs(but in a good way lol)

Another great analysis and music class 😂 It's great to know that you're watching the series! If you make it till the end of it and end up as emotionally invested as most of us are, even if your thing is more the musical construction and not the lyrics, my recommendation is that (again, after you finish watching) you to re-listen with lyrics included, because idk, maybe it's the soft spot talking, but I think the lyrics in all the songs from the soundtrack, not only openings and endings, are big part of how awesome this work is. Take care and thanks for this videos!

On ED3, specifically... Yeeaaahhhh, I'd say 'false/distorted happiness' is a really good way to explain the vibe they're going for. It's not going to make sense for a really long time, but it's pretty easy to pick up on this ending showing the backstory of the series. To get more into details and kind-of spoilers: This is the story of an ancient king who forced his children to eat the original Titan to inherit their powers to conquer the land and unite everyone. So it's very 'happy' because they're winning, but it's also a sort-of "We won, but at what cost?" type of thing and there's a lot of lasting harm that's done from the fallout of those events. Like this is literally why Titans are even a thing, they're people who were turned into monsters for this goal who MASSIVE SPOILERS eat people to try to find the one rare person with Titan-shifting powers so that they can be human again. So we see the king and his plans, we see the aftermath, and then everyone has to run away and establish the walls. All while, again, MASSIVE SPOILERS, the first king's consciousness remains, ruling the kingdom in the shadows and keeping everyone isolated with good-intentioned lies and deception that bring an era of peace while stifling the people's freedoms. It's VERY distorted/happy.

I love that you actually take your time to pause and rewind to understand and explain stuff. I know you disclaim that at the beginning, but I think that's what really gives a lot of value to your reactions, so I really appreciate it. I really like most of these endings. The third one, which I'm not too fond of, just listening to it, actually works incredibly well in setting that uncomfortable atmosphere and fits what's shown, and kind of also what's happening in the series at that time really well, so it's a great choice I'd say. I think it's also the favorite band of Isayama, the guy who wrote the manga, and they did the 6th opening, which I really like. I have endigs 1, 4 and 7 in a playlist because I really love them, I should probably add 6, too, but I always forget to do that. But endings 4 and 7, so Akatsuki no Requiem and Akuma no Ko are really amazing and I love them a lot. 4 has this kind of childlike levity until it transitions to the victorious but still chill orchestral sound, rephrasing motives from opening 3, and maybe others, I just didn't notice. It really fits the story and I love the style of animation for that ending that looks like a medieval wood work. And 7 has just an amazing overall quality to it that kind of represents freedom and the longing for it and I also find the actual lyrics (or at least the translation) incredibly interesting. I think it's really interesting how it transitions from this catchy, fast, rap like beginning to this soaring, soft melody, finally moving to this sweeping freedom seeking orchestral part at the end. It's great. The full versions of the two are also really interesting to listen to.
