The translation of the middle German speaking part hits way different during season 4:(roughly) “The attack of the titans: the boy of yore will soon take up the sword. One who despairs in his own helplessness cannot change the course of fate, but the boy of yore will soon take up the dark sword. Hate and anger are a double edged blade, and the day is coming when he will bear his fangs against the world”

One cool bit that you'll only really hear if you get both songs back to back: 12:36 That weird "windy" sound effect that builds and gets cut at the _very_ end of this video (it's supposed to be a distant crowd cheering) actually rolls STRAIGHT into the 2nd opening for AOT. If you get both full versions back to back, the cheering crescendos and transitions directly into the start of the 2nd opening so when you're listening to them on the album, it's one smooth transition without pause. Hope to see your breakdown on the second song.

Their "Shingeki no Kiseki" album is amazing, I don't know why it isn't more famous. It's a bunch of songs inspired by Attack on Titan like the ones that ended up on the anime. Revo (the composer and singer) is a huge fan of the manga and a lot of this album is about stuff that hadn't happened in the anime yet at the time it came out (before season 3), it has the full openings as well but they were remade for this so there are a few differences. One of the things I like most about their songs is the repeating motifs and references to each other throughout all songs, and this album is full of them.

  • @megg734

At the time of this song, the story was simple, "defeat the titan". It's been 10 years since the anime started in 2013. The long and painful journey is almost over.

Revo is an incredible composer and this song, while perhaps his most well known, is only the tip of the iceberg. In addition to his Linked Horizon songs for Attack on Titan (which there are more of than just the openings and ending), he made the soundtracks of the video game Bravely Default and its sequel Bravely Default II, and also wrote idol group Momorio Clover Z's first opening song for the Sailor Moon reboot anime. He also has his own story music project named Sound Horizon which has has a massive discography spanning 20 years, and a new release coming out this spring. That's not even getting into his image albums, early visual novel soundtracks, collaboration works with artists like Yuki Kajiura and Haruka Shimotsuki, and so on... oh man, I could spend hours talking about everything he's done.

Funny enough, there's a video out there from Linked Horizon, where they explain that all these complex things thrown in there were actually just random stuff that they were coming up with and ended up sounding cool so they added them in. It's nice to break down everything that's going on but, come on now, the fact that these guys are just toying around and come up with stuff like this with little organization and maybe not planning ahead at all, is just genius. Like kids playing with lego and coming up with figures, is pretty much what linked horizon does.

so awesome to hear you not only check out the full OP but just to go back and listen now that you're so far into the story! the writing (both in the story and the OST) is truly next level and you never tire of any of it. it's amazing to hear how much you're enjoying it I feel like people have mentioned this before in earlier AOT videos, but I think it would be so awesome to have you revisit songs you've heard before (ex. YOUSEEBIGGIRL) but talk about how much more impactful they feel/felt when hearing them in the show, or how differently those songs hit now that you've watched the scenes they were paired with

Thats what i get from your reactions and facial expressions and i think that is the biggest reason i love your channel and videos. I appreciate all the knowledge and information too but seeing someone truly enjoy listening to the songs you dearly love, and that mean something to you, is the best part of this. I'm so excited you're analyzing these in full!! I hope you continue to do so with all the openings, especially the Linked Horizon ones! I have no idea if it's intentional or them calling back to themselves, but there are parts of each that feel like they're forming an entire musical movement with them. For example, at 6:36 there's a short section that starts to sound a lot like Sasageyo (opening 3), not completely but in a way that I'd almost say was reminiscent if this didn't come first. Really tickles my music brain!

The Linked Horizon openings and ending all have the song title translated to German at some point in the song (usually near the beginning). This one is 'Feuerroter Pfeil und Bogen' = crimson bow and arrow (well, arrow & bow because it's a set phrase lol)

hey tony, nice video today. I just wanted to put some information about all this. if you're going to make the full version of all attack on titan openings, know that every attack on titan song on which the band linked horizon worked, the full versions have motifs of all previous songs. for example in the full version of opening 2, there will be a snippet of music that sounds similar to opening 1. opening 3 will have excerpts that will resemble opening 1 and 2, and the other openings will follow the same logic. including ending 4, from season 3, the only ending in which the band linked horizon is, it also has this and part of its motif can be heard in the full song of opening 5, along with excerpts of all the other songs played by this one band.

Listening to an OP all the way through is always a pretty wild experience - I once spent an afternoon going through all the full versions of the Jojo OPs, and some of them get real wild in the midsections. It's easy to sometimes miss the best parts that get cut out of the anime edits - like the soaring Beatlesish orchestral part of Kick Back that didn't make the cut for Chainsaw Man's opening.

I think what you experienced in this video really exemplifies the experience that many anime fans have, when they fall in love with an opening, listen to it week after week before each episodede, and then later on get to hear the full version and fall in love all over again. I also don't think I've ever heard a song that had an organ solo and it wasn't a great time, just saying.

I love your Bluecoats hat. I assume it’s for the drum corps? I haven’t checked your channel for other videos yet, besides AOT related, but I’d love your reaction to DCI stuff. 💙

Can't wait until you get to The Rumbling, the full version is wild! Also, A suggestion I will make for a listen is Good Morning World! from Dr. Stone by Burnout Syndromes. That song is great.

yess, one song that you should def revisit is unravel (tokyo ghoul OP). You watched it in your second multi anime segment but only the short version. Everybody was talking about how good that song was when it came out even when people didn't even like the anime itself.
