A trippy stop motion music video (official) for Altai Lelio's 'Mushroom Tea' featuring nothing but bright colours, flowing movement and surreal patterns.
With this animation I wanted to go back to my roots a bit and just play around with fun movements and morphs with plasticine shapes and figures.
While playing around with lighting I discovered that if you place objects on a light box and rig another set of lights to shine on them from above then you get a really nice, crisp and colourful result.
So I used a vertical tripod with a Cannon 450D to look down onto the light box. Then I just played around with the plasticine and animated whatever movements came into my head.
This was also my first time using Dragon Stop Motion which is now my software of choice for any stop motion animation.

this is totally and utterly brilliant my friend. I loved it from the beginning till the end, and the morphs never got repetitive or unimaginative. Everything was detailed and smooth and lovely to watch. thank you for this. I will subscribe and put you in my box and keep watching your work. cheers!
Thanks! The best way to synchronise audio to video is by using a stop motion programme that allows you to import audio and see it as a wave form underneath your frame timeline. That way you can work alongside your soundtrack.
I didn't redo any of the animation, just took a while making sure each frame was perfect. It's all shot at 25 fps. I estimate I spent a good 150 hours on this film. Thanks for watching. Max.
This really is one of my all-time favourite plasticine animations :D
This needs to be on iTunes.
Saw this playing in Whistler's Green in Boomtown. Delighted to find it here!
ssssssssilky ssssssssmooth! Love the animation and the constant movement
@stopmoshwan Cheers, always nice to hear people are sharing my work :)
Woah man! This music is amazing! And the animation fit perfectly! I love it!
It's so perfect and flowing!
Good lord, I was in awe throughout the whole video! Amazing job!
Best song ever! More and more and more
That was bloody brilliant, dude. O_O The simplistic geometrical design and colors, awesome synchronization of music, ridiculously smooth movements and transitions. You sire deserve the attention this video is getting and will get for years to come. Beautifully done. :D
Amazing! There are no words for how awesome this is! I love you!
I CAN'T BELLIVE IT IT'S AMAZING!!
You really deserve more recognetion, this is spectacular! The animation is so smooth as are the objects, just very very well done!
I LOVE YOUR ANIMATIONS!!!!
That was really REALLY amazing!
This is brilliant!!!
This is stupendously fantastic!!
You did a great job on this animation and did not have to redo the animation nice job claylord. Also I think you managed to animate this quite efficiently to get such good animation at the legnth of this video in approxemetly 150 hours of work. Animation is a lot harder then it looks even using progeams designed to animate objects and people. Keep up the good work claylord
I love it, man.
so here the deal, I saw this as a suggested video, and when I saw the name "Mushroom Tea" I thought, "Well, that looks stupid," but for some reason I clicked it anyway. So glad I did!

@LlamaBoyProductions Cheers! I use Newplast, mostly because its the most available to me though.
that must have taken ages!!!
Wow! That's a brilliant claymation! I lost sense of gravity,though. :)
The background is a lightbox. I put the plasticine directly onto it and shot it from above.
Very nice
i love your style soooo much, your music matching is great, and the white background gives a great feel to it and it makes it hard to tell what angle it is which is great! amazing work! what kind of clay do you use, it looks very good, thanks! :)
O.O This is amazing! Is it an official music video or just for fun? You seriously should have gotten paid for this.

Quick question claylord. How many retry did it take to get this animation so smooth and well timed with the music. Is this animation made at 24 frames per second? How many hours did it take to make this video? Also please come check out the animations and other videos on my channel please?
WOw...
What type of animator did you use? and how old are you? plz responed
Claylord why did you choose those colors for the clay in the animation. Also please tell me what is my best animation is please?
@LlamaBoyProductions Sure, but everyone works in a different way and prefers different materials so it's a matter of opinion.
@victom111 Yeah I'm in my second year at Bristol School of Animation (UWE) but tbh I'v mostly improved due to practice.

I probably could have finished it in 3 weeks if I worked on it everyday... but I didn't. On average it took about 6/7 hours to complete 10 seconds.
Dat luke like a prof vid!
