Museum Staff Stops Climate Protest at ‘The Scream’ Painting

Climate activists who tried to glue themselves to a famous painting were stopped by quick-acting museum staff. This latest protest happened at the National Museum of Norway in Oslo, where members of a Norwegian-based group called Stop Oil Exploration attempted to glue their hands to ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch. However, video from the group shows that the activists were stopped before the adhesive would stick to the glass covering the art. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

You make a fair point but personally If I knew what was happening to the earth I'd let them destroy my art any day. I can't speak for all of these occurrences, but from what I've seen they tend do scout out the location to make sure there's a protective layer so no damage to the painting occurs. I do understand your reasoning though. I wish there was a better less destructive way to actually get the media's attention (of course there's less destructive ways but nothing's caused this much reporting on climate change, even if it's tangential)

An interpretation with a few more rigid sulci would realize that the pen is mightier than the sword, and establishing a dialogue through protest is more likely to lead to emergent and holistic results by raising the discussion to the forefront of the zeitgeist rather than trying to single-handedly change the world with two hands and a shovel.

So far museums around the world have been fortunate that no works of art have suffered any permanent damage from these protesters... but I fear eventually a valuable work of art will be damaged or destroyed for the sake of "climate change"?! I'd hate to think the freedom of visiting any museum, will result in routine metal scanners and body checks like the TSA at airports, similar to what I was subjected to on my visit to NYC in 2017. I went through "bag checks" at... The Met, the Guggenheim, the MOMA, the Empire State Building, the NY Public Library and the 9/11 Memorial Museum! All of them except the NY Public Library, I had to leave my tote bag at a "bag check" station during my visit, then retrieve on my way out! Pathetic...

they think if they can ruin a famous painting then they will be put on camera in front of the world to tell them why they did it that way they can tell people about climate change, as if we don't already know.... Tbh sticking yourself to a painting because you want everyone to know the sky is blue is just as effective :)
