I was diagnosed last year, 5/26/2023. I am 57, so late onset MS. It's been quite a year to say the least. Luckily I have Dr. Aaron Boster as my MS Specialist. I am still figuring out how to live with MS, who I am with the disease. Thanks for the videos.

WOW! Reading these comments from other MS people is inspiring. I have PPMS and figured I would be looking forward to a life of pain and difficulty. But hearing this makes me feel like I can comfortably live to my 100s. Longevity is very strong in my family. Right now at 55, I’m doing good, however reading this make it all better! Thanks!

I was actually fairly relieved to get my MS diagnosis. I was in a psych ward beating myself up for having what I thought was depression. I had experienced some minor incidents of self harm because I was so humiliated and frustrated with the invisibility of what I was experiencing. (I have a loooong history of depression and anxiety. I am not judging the value of depression, just describing my disappointment.) I think knowing what you are dealing with is incredibly important, let alone the medical profession knowing what you are dealing with. All the same, MS is such an individual and often isolating condition to experience and having people like you sharing their knowledge and experiences is very, very helpful.

Thanks for watching. I am so glad you found relief in your diagnosis. Depression is so common with MS. Some studies show it is 50% or more of us have depression as a symptom of our MS.

I fought in the Korengal Valley, of Afghanistan. The VA says I have TBI. I thought all of my symptoms were because TBI. One day I was skateboarding and fell the fall broke my femur and I had to go in for surgery. My doctor wondered how I was able to break my hip at such a young age. She scanned my brain to see if my pituitary gland was enlarged. She said she thinks she found what may be. Ms I went to a neurologist. He ordered another MRI and diagnosed me with Ms. He told me Cameron you have Ms. What do you want to do? I had never heard about Ms. I didn't know what to do. I left and sat in my car and I started crying. I cried so hard. I thought I was going to die. I thought it was terminal. I'm not even 40 years old yet. I'm trying my best to stay active and diet. I eat clean as clean as I can. Anyways, sometimes I slip and eat dirty but I try to eat clean. I don't drink alcohol. I don't smoke. I just want to live to be an old man and a grandfather. Thank you for your videos. You really do help me by sharing your wisdom. I can be better at dealing with this disease. Thank you

Thanks for watching Cameron and thank you for serving. My nephew was there a couple of times too. Being diagnosed is a huge thing. It can take a year or two (or more) to adjust to a new diagnosis. You may feel ALL the emotions and that is normal. Try to be gentle with yourself. As you heard we can live well with MS. There are now over 20 different treatments to help slow or stop progression and there is a lot of new and ongoing research showing how diet and lifestyle changes can help us to manage our symptoms and possibly slow progression too!

My younger brother was diagnosed with MS when I was 35 years old. His neurologist prescribed DMT (Gilenya), but he didn’t take his illness seriously, thinking it was similar to a cold or flu that medication would cure. I conducted extensive research and found that having a sibling with MS increases the risk for the other siblings. Acting on a gut feeling, I immediately changed my diet and began exercising. Two years later, I visited a neurologist and requested an MRI. The results were shocking: I had more than 15 lesions in my spine and over 15 lesions in my brain. My neurologist believes I may have had MS since my early twenties or even earlier.

My mom has MS. My mom was 29 or 30 when she was diagnosed back in the early 1980's. I was only one or two. She's 72 now, and is in a wheelchair now because of it. I'm 44, and having a mom with MS was a normal part of my childhood. I thought every mom used a cane at some.

Hi Vickie , it’s Vickie here 😊. Thank you for this , your journey is very similar to mine , lm 54 and although l was only officially diagnosed in Feb 2023 l have had symptoms for years starting in 2008 with severely optic neuritis. I have a very positive attitude ( most of the time ) and exercise daily in the form of my two hour job in a school kitchen which sees me washing the floor , moving tables and walking are the kitchen whilst l do my job . Don’t get me wrong even though l only work for just two hours per day l still have to have a seated break of a few minutes due to my drop foot and pain which comes from it that slows me down . At the end of my shift lm totally wiped out and rest has to follow. Its very challenging and hard every day but lm determined to continue for as long as my body will allow me to . My diet is pretty good ( admittedly could be better ) and all l drink is water 💦 , l practice mindfulness daily and sleep well . I totally agree that exercise is SO very important to our health in general and more so when you have MS . I too follow neurologist Dr Aaron Boster and Dr Bieber vis KZread together with yourself and l really find all of the advice give as a collective to be invaluable. Thank you

Hi Vickie! I take brand Copaxone. I tried one of the generics but I did not do well with it. I do not think about the anniversary of my diagnosis but it was 2014. I believe I had MS years before my diagnosis but didn’t know it. I keep a medical diary only if I am having MS issues. I eat mainly plant based foods but I do eat small portions of chicken, pork, some beef and fish. I stay away from pastries, cakes and processed food but just about everything is processed which I try to stay away from. I feel 100% better when I exercise but I am not good about staying in a routine. I have to work on that. I’m constantly working on stress, but since retirement 6 years ago, I am doing a lot better. I would be interested on your take on healthy living. Thank you so much for your input on living with MS.

My diagnosis date was May 2, 2000--that makes it yeasy to say how many years it's been since diagnosis:24. My diagnosis was very different from yours: I went to hospitatl in the middle of the night with an excruciating headache. A doctor dianosed me that night. The next day, the hospital called and took the diagnosis back! A month later, a new symptom made it official. I've thought of making a video about my story. Why haven't I? Because everything takes longer when you have MS? Or maybe because MS isn't all my life is about, and I don't want to give it that prominent a role in my life. It's been there for more than half of my life, but I'm okay, too 😊 Avonex, Rebif, Tysabri, Gilenya, Mavenclad.
