A strong female character done right, and someone men actually can get behind. So unlike all the other modern Mary Sues from Disney.

@@cedric182 For starters, you do know what is a Mary Sue, right? The Frozen princesses are not Mary Sues, and the Encanto I couldn't tell you since I quit Disney after all their B.S. And the B.S. is not just about Mary Sues. Disney follows a clear agenda to emasculate male characters. Even those already established like Luke, Han Solo, Thor, etc. Imagine if the opposite happened (destroying a established strong fem character to prop up a male on). Anyways, from the top of my head: - Rey from StarWars. The most obvious and pathetic example probably. - Then you have anything Marvel after Phase 3: Captain Marvel (actually since phase 3), She-Hulk, Wanda/ScarletWitch, etc.) Cant name them all, cause again I quit Disney. - From what I understand the new Mulan(live-action) as well. So probably most of the female leads in the live-action remakes. The direction/agenda is clear, at least when it comes to Disney.

6:18 Omfg. “Must be somewhere in Asia?” 😂 Anyways. It should be noted that while the song is singing about masculinity, it’s specifically a Chinese version of masculinity, which (can still be equally toxic but) in the case of this song, incorporates ideas like the yin-yang harmony of contradicting opposites, and tempered discipline over uncontrolled rage. Hence, phrases like “tranquil as a forest, but a fire within” and “find your center.” And of course, the final message of the song is that masculine strength & courage is not only accessibly to males, but females are just as capable of demonstrating this admirable type of the will to power.

I've always loved this song the most from Mulan, but in Spanish, (I'm from Spain) it talks about being brave, not a man, when I heard the song in english for the first time I was so puzzled 🤣🤣 Also, my favourite description of this song ever: "The entire army of China trained in one song" 👍

It was meant to be an ironic title and lyrics, but out of context I understand it might raise some eyebrows 😂 The whole sequence of Mulan deconstructing the hyper-masculinity of the song is so satisfying to watch. Also, the chorus is kind of similar to, or maybe a reference of, Sun Tzu’s Art of War.

For your eyes- I would recommend trying to rinse them well with water-- which maybe you already have, but if not... yeah, you want to get the soap stuff out. Crying may not cut it. The rough-looking guy...? He's not a bully, or mean, really; he just... has a short fuse. Let's just say, he and Mulan didn't get off to a very good start. Or actually, Mulan didn't get off to a good start with any of them. And the little red dragon was not helping matters. At all. They are giving her a hard time because they are annoyed with her-- when you watch the movie it'll make more sense. Also, the thing with the arrow is that she was thinking from a new angle. She used the weights in a way that would HELP rather than make it harder to climb. -- The movie takes place in China.

what's the most important about this song is that you can see how in their mind back then they used to belittle women, which is why it feels toxic. They think only men can become great soldiers, women weren't even allowed in the army. Which is why the fact that Mulan is a woman (hiding it from the other soldiers) is really interesting and funny. His best soldier isn't even a man but a woman, making the whole purpose of his song ironical and wrong.

Dude this song is written about the military and trained to be a soldier. It's not toxic. In those eras, men protected their countries and their families. Mulan is one of the most powerful worriers in her era, even the emperor respects her not only her soldiers respect her a lot but even her horse. She was not just a soldier but a general. That's empower to the women.

As much as Mulan was about being masculine and a man (because they are at war), it wasa one of the first Disney movies that were progressive enough to show Li Shang (the leader) slowly fall in love with Mulan (even while she was masquerading as a man).

The whole point of this song is the irony of “making a man” out of the male cadets, who all suck, while the most gifted member of the troop is actually a woman.

She wasn't gifted. She was clumsy and a hindrance to others in the matter of fact. She was the worst of them all. But her will and brains made her become the best "man" out of them all (which i love because this movie shows that with willingness and hard work, even the weakest can become the strongest)

I always interpreted the song as being about how manhood is a performance, it’s something thats learned and not innate, and Mulan who is a biological female is just as capable at acting the part as anybody else. It’s a song about gender and what creates it, it’s all superficial.
