I don't even think he IS truly an apologist. To my knowledge, he has never, ever confirmed whether or not he believes in the resurrection of Jesus. I think he just likes the debate and has been able to capitalize on it. He's just one of many philosophers but has a background in psychology. Sometimes he makes good points, sometimes he makes bad points, and sometimes he just fumbles it altogether and doesn't make a point. But an apologist? I don't think so.

Wrong! He's mentally rehearsing that thing he does with his fingers (0:35 shows a very special move, only masters of word salads can pull that off without knotting their fingers). It's very complex, takes his whole brainpower to rehearse it mentally before executing it, so there's very little brain juice left to fuel his side of the argument. This might give people the impression that our good doctor is throwing out words at random but don't be fooled, he's DEEP.

I think the first religion was just bedtime stories by ancient grandmother's to give human face to natural phenomena to make it less scary. Evolution wise, I think religion undermines evolution because it takes away female selective breeding. Indeed of men trying to get a female to choose then to reproduce with and babies born in mothers full of oxytocin and dopamine where religion turns women into broodmares without investment in their young who are born to mothers full of adrenaline and cortisol.

Religion perverted the bedtime stories our ancient grandmothers told the young ones about natural forces to give them a human face and make them less scary, there was someone in charge. When humans were invested collectively in the upbringing of youth, women were in charge. Women sexually selected our way up the evolutionary ladder while men worked in service to them in effort to be chosen for reproduction. Men worked hard to be the best version of themselves in the hope that a female would accept his sperm and care for his offspring. If a family unit was in the woods and a bear came along, the male would be required to die for survival of the offspring. She can continue to nurse and care for the infant and accept a new mate. Also why women and men sexually peak at different ages. Men are to work and not really be a part of later life so the earlier they could mature, the better so 20s are their chance of reproducing while women would peak in mid 30s allowing another generation of offspring and a really available number of males. Incels that would harm or jeopardize a female would be excluded or killed by other males of the group to ensure the safety of the only afterlife that existed at that time, a child. Females that are happy had babies that were in wombs full of oxytocin and dopamine as the son to be mothers were happy and provided for giving rise to successive generations that built up on human traits that were fostered into higher and higher levels of intelligence and sophistication. It took religion to hijack that process, removing the female will from the equation and using violence to perpetuate the males genes. The selection is based on the male with the female forced to reproduce through intimidation and suffering with babies born from wombs soaked in adrenaline and cortisol. Scientists have described a natural process occurring that is passing out the male Y as the continued level of male aggression against females is contrary to evolutionary processes.

Even though I’m on the Christian side, I agree with the Atheist that religion is very often used for evil, particularly by those in power. That’s why we must use our God-given intellect to think, ask questions, use reason. I also agree that free speech is most important to correct bad dogma. I thank God for my freedom!!!

I am the same, I believe God is all powerful and people shouldn’t be punished based on religion in this life. Because it doesn’t allow them to grow and change, God can punish whoever is deserving in the next life. I don’t think any kind of theocracy is a great idea, even if I vote based on my own faith.

There wasn't much freedom of speech during the Spanish Inquisition, or during the Salem witch trials, or in the persecution of Galileo or in my Sunday School class when I asked too many questions. Freedom of speech goes hand in hand with the ability to question authority, which is at odds with almost any variation of religion one can think of.

Many great men of God defied the authority of the time in order to do what is right and were punished for speaking out, see: Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Richard Wurmbrand, Watchman Nee. There are many more. Bad religion oppresses freedom. Good religion gives us freedom.

@@matthewwade920 it’s all relative to the time period and perspective. You named the Witch Trials, Inquisition and Galileo. But during those time periods, it didn’t matter if you were a citizen of a monarchy that was religious or not. You’re not likely to be guaranteed civil liberties. It’s a new concept to be able to criticize those in power and avoid accountability. And in the matter of reality, could all of histories achievements been done without religion, sure maybe. But were they, no. Without organized religion most ancient men wouldn’t have been literate, and in the case of Galileo. Without the Catholic Churches backing, Copernicus wouldn’t have been able to develop his initial theories. Much of the renaissance was possible to the wealth of the Catholic Church. And lastly, it’s a theme amongst western atheists when speaking about Islam you have to mention your problems with Christianity. But that’s mostly out of ignorance of what Islam actually says and is about. There’s a reason that religion can’t go through a reform to separate church and state.
