    Muhammad Ali, always shows respect for fighters who show respect back except one Joe Frazier, he also had feeling towards Ali, but he was very sad about how he was treated by Ali,& went to his grave still disappointed/ upset with Muhammad Ali. Larry Holmes,Ken Norton,& George Foreman loved Muhammad Ali, they were all on talk show together,they all loved n respected Ali for what he stood for,,his beliefs! Ain't no Government is taking my beliefs away from me.

    Marciano statement may have been said out of respect for the great man, Joe in his prime fought and got beaten by Schmeling,quite honestly Max would have got a hell of a hiding by Rocky, And have a look at the Louis vs Galento fight when Joe was at his peak two ton Tony trained on beer and pizza his long run was from the dressing room to the ring,Rocky Trained like a Spartan compared to Tony,yet Tony gave Joe a hell of a time until he ran out of steam,the Rock never ran out of steam.

    ***** No disrespect was uttered at all. He accorded great respect for his style of fighting, heart and endurance. But Ali is a analytical boxer and gave and honest assessment of another champ's skill - something that he as a professional had to do in order to win.

    kzolly It sure sounded like it to me. Maybe it's because I got tired of Ali many years ago. I don't like big talkers like him. But he was worse than a talker. He disrespected many people. Sometimes only in "jabs" but he did it his entire career.

  • @kzolly

    @kzolly

    You're right Ali was a big talker and it was new back then and made a lot of those he "bad mouthed" richer than they'd ever be before stepping in the ring into a fight he promoted. Big Talkers also have a habit of not delivering. Ali always delivered.

  • @kzolly

    @kzolly

    I'd say he did. I can separate the showman and promoter from the boxing professional able to accurately assess any and all opponents. Yes, he went too far with Frazier, but out of 3 fights between them - Ali bested Frazier. And during his prime fight years whoever he lost to (which weren't many), he beat the second time round.

    louis said Marciano could beat him in his prime himself and Ali said Marciano might be able too beat him. Marciano once gave a prime fighter paralyzing brain damage with an upper cut, he also knocked 6 of PRIME rex laynes upper teeth out with a single counter punch, He defeated a PRIME undefeated Roland la Starza twice. IT is said that he had the stamina too go 20 rounds throwing all power shots. His KO percentage was THE HIGHEST OF ALL TIME, 88.75%, HIGHER than GEORGE FORMANS, MIKE TYSONS, MUHAMAD ALI, JOE FRAZIER, SONNY LINSTONS, JACK DEMPSEYS, ECT. He has only been dropped twice in his entire career. This man didnt become professional until age 25. So of course his techniques don't look as classy but he got the job done. 1st round kos 2nd round kos 3rd round kos. His average opponent age before title defenses was around 28 years old which is younger than may weathers. He had the same amount of fights as may weather except it took may weather 19 years n it took rocky 7. Which means this man that was rushed into boxing with almost no fundamental skill DEFEATED a PROFESSIONAL fighter every 37 days. which means the man was always training and fighting non stop not a day of rest. HE didnt speak or have sex with his wife before a fight and ran 10 miles on CHRISTMAS MORNING. A man that would continue too fight with his nose hanging off his face and STILL WIN..... YOUR TELLING ME, HE COULDNT BEAT ANYONE FROM THOSE ERAS??? ill leave this at a quote.. "A real champion finds a way too win" - ROCKY MARCIANO

    ***** I'd say that La Starza was pretty good, yeah. Cockell, I don't know. He had a good record, but I know little about his opposition. That isn't the point, though. The point is those kids who has heard someone say that Marciano only fought bums. That someone heard it from someone else. Hearsay, hyperbole and outright nonsense. They never bother to check the facts themselves. They never bother wondering why Marciano ~is~ regarded one of the top ten heavyweights all time. They just go on and on repeating hearsay, without them knowing fuck all about boxing. As you said, nowadays all these things are on the net. It's not even difficult to check facts anymore. But still they persist at playing experts without knowing the first thing about boxing. Marciano fought everyone there was. Some he fought twice. No one can do more than that.

    That's largely dependent on the audience. Mayweather once said in an interview that if he were white he would be more popular in the U.S. media. I know you probably think that's nonsense and are likely to insult me because my opinion is different than yours but I disagree. I think that a true fight fan will appreciate the grit of Marciano if nothing else. He was a great champion and no one with a half brain will deny that. And the fact that Ali is saying he thinks he's better than Joe Frazier speaks volumes. But for the life of me I don't understand why there is so much negativity towards Mayweather's style of fighting. I mean he hits the other guy and avoids getting hit himself. I'm not even trying to be an asshole but I really don't understand why people have such a problem with his style. He's not the first guy who fought like that he's just the first to successfully maintain an undefeated record with that style.

I think its because he is the first guy to mock people especially well known fan favorites and not get any karma ko for it. Also its the time period. Rocky was around when people were hoping for trash talk, controversy, and due to the time they wanted to see somebody who wasnt a white american as the champ because it was so common at the time, now with the leagend of the great white hope and with so many loudmouth fighters and no knockout artist like liston, max baer, shavers, lyle, or foreman people would adore a friendly guy who can hit with the power of a black bear and has a jaw like chulavo.

    Normally when somebody says things like “He wasn’t as great as me, he wasn’t as beautiful”, followed by a compliment about how you’re unsure on the outcome of a fight, you view it as backhanded. But the way Ali was saying it was in a way to preface how amazing Marciano was; Ali made sure to emphasize how fearsome Marciano was. I’ve often found that paradoxically, the most humble and athletes (willing to gush about and praise others) are the the ones that are considered to be the greatest to have lived. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Mike Trout, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, and even people like Kasparov and Fischer in chess; the list goes on: all of them are god-status in their respective sports. The reason why these guys will be the most honest when talking about others is an attribute that very few people in life earned, and that’s the fact that they have nothing to prove. Ali knows how hard boxers hit, and he knows how hard it is to get back up. It’s impossible to have a record like Marciano by fluke.

    I think even Ali doesnt know his own greatness. He had a handful of fights where he was beaten, and he still won. He had an ability to go to a different place when someone had him beat, and win the match on sheer will and determination. Greatest of allll times. (Im talking about 70’s era Ali. 1964-67 Ali wouldnt need to go to that place because he wouldnt get hit.)

    Louis, had to come out of retirement to pay a hefty tax bill, that the U.S Govt. surprised him with. Long story short, the U.S Govt. paid Joe for a litany of P.R work that Joe did for the war effort. Joe took every cheque and gave it to the U.S.O. Greedy Govt. years after the fact, said he owed taxes on those earnings, even though he gave the entire cheques to the U.S.O. Anyways, in order to pay the bill, Joe came out of retirement to fight Marciano. Marciano beat him and cried afterwards, saying that Louis was and still is his hero. Marciano was also a fan of Ali, he just didnt like Ali talking bout politics and such. All in all, not much bad one can say bout Marciano, probably a reason to this day he has the undeniable blessing of being the ONLY Heavyweight Champ never to have lost a fight. All these guys I mentioned herein, personified the word "Champion." R.I.P fellas.

    Parkinson disease is something that you don’t catch it’s there since birth. Ali was young and healthy but Parkinson was always showing its evil ugly rear. The layoff when Ali refused induction into the Armed forces, allowed the disease to be calm, sorta speak. But, when he came back to boxing after the 3.5 year layoff, and as soon as he began taking shots to the head, it kicked in and was no longer festering inside. Ali had the disease when he first fought Frazier and it just gradually kept getting worse. When Ali and Frazier had their 3rd and final fight Parkinson was already affecting him at least 60-75 %. Ali had no business fighting his last two fights. We never saw Ali in his prime and never could, due to Parkinson’s disease. The best we got was Ali vs Cat Williams.

    Marciano had the soul of a champion, i've pretty much never seen him on the ground and the few times he was he just stood up like nothing happened. I doubt he would've lost no matter who fighted against him, he didnt fear anyone and also you can see on some videos how hard did he hit and he didn't even have any outstandin muscles. That guy had the real quality of Strength and knew the real meaning of Champion.

    Here's another display of Ali's graciousness. He gives Rocky his due, says it's up to the imagination. This is the mark of a TRUE CHAMPION/LEGEND. Ali never underestimated anyone always gave 'em their due. Unlike the foolish statement Larry Holmes gave that cost Larry EVERYTHING he ever worked for in Boxing!!! The BEST part of ALI was his magnificent MIND!!! Ali had ALL his opponents beat before they ever stepped into the ring. Ali knew about Rocky's abilities, his stamina, his power, ALI would've had to create a strategy, if they ever fought. Who knows, they're probably fighting right now, with Jack Johnson looking on. Louis & Liston...all rumbling in another dimension!!!
