He is my favorite boxer. I wasn't alive during his prime, but I was for his come back and he was still great. Shhhiii...he won the title. Back then, being in your 40s as a heavyweight was considered way over the hill. George changed that. Plus.....dude named all his sons George. I'm surprised none of them got into boxing. I guess they didn't need to. He made more money off his grill than he did boxing. And he has a fascinating experience with God that he told in a few interviews that you can watch on KZread.

Ali didn’t originate it, that line goes back to the Negro Leagues. Satchel Paige used to say the same thing about James "Cool Papa" Bell, who had legendary speed. According to Bell, they stayed at a hotel one time, and he discovered there was a problem with the wiring in the room that resulted in a delay between the time of flipping down the switch and the lights actually turning off. Knowing this, Bell bet Paige that he could turn off the light and be in bed before the room got dark, and then he demonstrated it. Paige used this incident to start telling everyone that Bell was so fast that he could turn off the light and be under the covers before the room got dark. However, according to Bell, Paige would always leave out the details.

@@remyhavoc4463 - I'm not taking anything away from Ali, just wanted Satchel Paige to get a little credit. I don't have many heroes, but Ali is one of them and it has nothing to do with anything he did in the ring. The man refused to be drafted into the Vietnam War, stood by his convictions knowing he would be stripped of the greatest title of the time, and banned from boxing. He did it anyway, even though he would have received the Elvis treatment. How many athletes/celebrities would do that today? A man of his words, sorely missed today.

@@scottcooksey5284 Yeah but you're talking about the NOI (who took all his money) and kept him fighting past the point where his speed and reflexes were long gone. He was old, slow, and weak, yet they kept throwing him in there against monsters like Shavers and Lyle and Frazier. It was criminal what they did to him. He didn't WANT to lay on the ropes against those guys, but his abilities had eroded to the point he could no longer dance or dodge punches. I suspect Ali in his prime could have beaten them all without a scratch on his pretty face. Incidentally, Ali was DOMINATING George before he discovered the rope a dope strategy late in the 2nd round. I counted 15 hard right hands in the 1st which smashed George in the mouth. That strategy was given to him by Cus D'amato because he noticed George always trapped the opponent's hands. But George had to reach his arms out to do it, and Cus realized if Ali simply took a step back, George's arms would fall for a second and that was the precise moment to throw the right. And watching the exchanges in slo-mo, that's exactly what Ali was doing. The looseness of the ropes allowed him to pull back since George kept trapping him there. Ali simply modified the "step back" strategy Cus had provided. So Ali was gonna destroy Foreman that night anyway, the rope a dope just made it easier.

@@stringtheoryguitars4952 NO ,, EVERYTHING you said is wrong. Ali said he invented rope a dope on the spot while in the ring with Foreman. Beginning of the end right there. If you really want the truth,,, refs will stop a fight when a fighter stops fighting and just lays on the ropes. They should have made Ali fight or quit right there,, instead of promoting rope a dope and maybe later in his life he would have still been able to walk and talk. Fact is they let Ali down by not doing so. PS ,,, if Lyle , Frazier, Holifield... Couldn't put George down for the count,,, that little pitter pat stuff Ali was throwing didn't have him ahead in that fight,,, it had NO effect on Foreman. Loose ropes , tainted water , refs quick count ect... cost Foreman the fight. It's too obvious to ignore.

Good job both of these guys, praising each other up, it’s good sportsmanship no matter what the outcome of the bout is, they show lots of love in and out of the ring. Ali & Foreman are really two so well seasoned trained up boxers that basically you don’t want to get in the ring with em, lol. Imagine all this stuff they’re trained in, endurance like crazy, able to out-time you every time, jock you out of your socks reading reflexes, motor-set you, feint left throw right, & 8 tons of freight train muscles behind it, man, and these guys have trained so long it’s reflex to them, they just move that way, in their sleep, when they’re awake, & definitely in the ring. You basically just don’t want to get in the ring with em, lol.

Ali nearly won every round as well . I don’t like the George was just tired narrative . Yea he was tired but he was being out pointed every round

Hell you would’ve been tired to in 100° weather and plus George Foreman was not used to going through every round because he used to be knocking people out. It’s all Muhammad Ali made him fight plain and simple, so yeah, he was tired.

@@djhoova7135 He was tired, but he was also behind on all the judges' scorecards before Ali knocked him out in the 8th round. Ali was too fast, too tough and too accurate with his headshots for Foreman.

@@johnosullivan6439 yeah, I agree with that and plus George Foreman thought he was just gonna go in there and knock Muhammad Ali out and he got tired and Muhammad Ali baited him in but I agree Muhammad Ali was the better fighter. I’m not taking nothing away from big George cause he was a beast. He was just on a different level.

to Ethics and humility raise a person's value. Foreman relied only on body strength. But Muhammad Ali used a great deal of his mind before his body. Thank you Foreman for your humility, and may God have mercy on Muhammad Ali, the legend and the greatest in history
