Frazier was just built the wrong way to fight a guy like Foreman. Frazier was all about the left hook, and that punch took him all the way to the heavyweight title. But he needed to get close to land it, and Foreman simply pushed him away whenever Frazier got in firing range. Unable to mount a serious offense, Frazier became a sitting duck for Big George who used him like a punching bag.

At the time, Ali stated how he would beat Foreman and proceeded to do exactly what he said he would . Punchers usually do poorly against boxers and Foreman had many other deficits …against a pressure fighter like Frazier, shorter, smaller and a slow starter , Foreman feasted by never letting Frazier get close enough to land the left hook
@mebsrea

The loose ropes in Zaire were also an underhanded way of tilting the fight in favor of Ali. Had it been held in more regular circumstances in MSG or somewhere similar, Ali’s career would have ended that night.

@@mebsrea laughable…Foreman never had a chance against Ali .Ali had a great chin and Foreman ‘s pushing and wrestling tactics didn’t work against Ali who was about his size. No, you always give the champion every opportunity …it was stopped at the right time .
When fighters are at the same level, style makes fights.
Nowadays this fight would be called off in the first round. Frazier took a lot of punishment.
Foreman is the scariest thing to ever get into a boxing ring
George’s amazing ability to keep shoving guys in front of him around and backwards, using brute strength as well as an excellent sense of space and timing was an important key to his success, it was almost impossible to escape this man. I still find it a very underrated feat, Tommy Morrison’s game plan in 1993 against Foreman, proving Tommy was a skilled boxer. Only saw Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Jimmy Young outboxing Foreman in Foreman’s almost 30 y spanning ring career, besides Tommy. But they absorbed a lot of punishment in the process.
That was brutal.

Crazy amount of thick muscles meaty guy
According to Muhammad Ali, Frazier had the choice of defending against him for five million [equivalent to $37 million today], or Foreman for eight hundred thousand. He chose Foreman because he refused to ever "fight that bastard [Ali] for even money again".
Joe is a beast of power he could win that fight but it was his wrong tactic and he was not smart like Ali.

Growing up I really only saw George Foreman as the big friendly guy who sold grills. Once I started getting into boxing and watching old fights I found out he was a terrifying bulldozer in the ring
Joe Frazier's corner did him dirty. Should've ended the fight earlier. Foreman was going to murder him. Crazy thing is Foreman doesn't even leverage his full power because he punches flat foot footed. He rarely steps into the punches using his whole body.
Fraziers style was tailor made for George. What a warrior he was. Wow!
I get knocked down, but I get up again, they ain't ever gonna keep me down...
Foreman's power was legendary.
All off you saw Joe Frazier get knocked down 6 times Well I saw him get up 6 times -- The G,O,A,T
🔥
On the second knockdown, that quick right hook of Foreman's was beyond devastating. Cosell's soundtrack was exquisite.
This fight was before the rumble in the jungle and why everybody believed Ali would get whooped by foreman after this Demolition of Frasier. Incredible fighters
That was nuts! 😮 It's amazing smoking Joe Frazier did not end up with massive brain issues. One of the greatest Warrior boxers of all time.
Frazier took a lot of punishment. That probably shortened his fighting career a bit.
If boxing were Starcraft, George Formen would be the Ultralisk
Nobody will ever call a fight like Howard could.
That left uppercut from foreman that led to 2nd to last knockdown looked like a absolute bomb. It connected so flush and was immediately when Joe was stepping into him too. That had to have done some serious damage.
Love how George kept him a distance with the push
People seriously underestimate frazier a lot think about it this guy fought ali 3 times never went down and fought foreman and couldn't stay down.

Frazier got brutalized , the day Frazier lost some smoke.
Foreman later remarked he was relieved Frazier never broke his gaze just before the first bell as he would've seen Big George's knees shaking with fear if he looked down.
He kept him at distance, Smoking Joe threw hooks, not jabs. Foreman's jabs were damaging, long and he pushed back when the jab didnt land. Smart.
I don't know if a favorite to win has ever been dominated so viciously in the history of the sport!!!
Two great fighters
Texas power. Love George Foreman. Great man, great American icon, great boxer.
I just paused Big George on Netflix to watch the real fight
When I compare Tyson and Foreman for power, Tyson's power is like being hit by a sportscar at 200mph, Foreman's power is like being hit by a tank at 100mph. You need to see Foreman on the heavy bag to see the power, it was scary to see the impact of those blows.
You can hear Angelo screaming.. "STOP IT ! , STOP IT ! , STOP IT ! , STOP IT !"

2:08 this bodyshot from Foreman is hilarious. I wish I could of seen the other side from a different camera angle he put so much hate into that shot looks like a domestic battery.
I definitely think it's a case of mismatch - bruiser up against another bruiser. Problem? George was the bigger man by some margin. Joe was toast by the ring of the first bell.
Ali was truly the greatest, despite the difficulties in styles he faced he managed to deal with them and win
I remember watching this fight with my Dad for me it was the funniest fight I have ever seen Frazier wanted out 😂 he has heart and a chin 😅
