About Steph Richards:
Trumpeter and composer Stephanie Richards is a prominent voice in the NYC experimental scene, having worked with pioneering artists ranging Henry Threadgill, John Zorn and Anthony Braxton to Laurie Anderson and Yoko Ono. A multidisciplinary collaborator, her works encompass site-specific or sitesituated collaboration, choreography, scent, film and electronics. Her works have premiered at venues ranging Carnegie Hall, the Bluenote (NYC), the Barbican (London) The Berlin Konzerthaus (Germany) and Lincoln Center. As an ensemble collaborator, she has premiered new works around the world, as a founding member of the Asphalt Orchestra (Bang On a Can) in addition to working with ensembles International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea, SouthLand Ensemble and has performed alongside Kronos Quartet, The Pixies, Kanye West and Common. Active in the creative jazz scene, Richards has recorded with collaborators ranging from Henry Threadgill, Anthony Braxton, Ravi Coltrane and Jason Moran. Stephanie is vice-president and coartistic director of the Festival of New Trumpet (FONT) and is on faculty at the University of California, San Diego.
About Downtown Sounds:
Presented as part of the inaugural California Festival - a collaboration between the San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and San Francisco Symphony.
Art of Elan’s popular downtown series returned to the Luce Loft with Downtown Sounds, an evening of thought-provoking new music that featured the world premiere of work by Mason Bynes (multimedia composer), along with new music by trumpeter Steph Richards, drummer Andrew Munsey, and Nathalie Joachim.
