i saw this lineup in the Gorge '94...Beastie Boys fucking were so fucking good the poor Smashing Pumpkins had to follow them & it was like the entire crowd had blown their load...A lot of people started to leave...I remember Corgan saying something like " I know u want the Beastie boys but the aren't coming back"...or something to the effect that he knew they weren't gonna capture the fucking Tsunami of energy that just blew threw the amphitheater

I went to this tour in Columbus, Ohio. I was homeless and got a ride to a friend's house at the Ohio State Campus. I slept on the porch until everyone woke up. I went with everybody at the house to the concert. I paid for my ticket in quarters and got third row in the pavilion. Everyone left me there. I ran into some guys I knew from Cincinnati who let me go down there with them for a couple of days and then gave me a bus ticket back up north. When I got back 'home' I got a job and found a basement to stay in. Memories...............

"The Real World" happened and people ate it up. MTV then realized it was much cheaper to produce their own show than it was to deal with the music industry. Here we are today.

I still remember the first MTV commercial, Week in Rock, Lollapalooza commercial, wow nostalgia! I also went to LALLAPALOOZA in Los Angeles. Had an awesome time watching the Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, and many more! It was a great time to be a teen in the 90's! BEST PART! NO CELL PHONES, Social media, Twitter, Facebook, you were forced to meet people. NOT bury your face in a phone. I used to record these MTV specials but lost all my VHS tapes!

Indeed. I was 14 years old when I first went to my first Palooza in 93’. I went on to go to all of the rest of them in the 90’s. I went with my friends and had some great times. Took lots of photos but no videos sadly. We were more in the moment rather than worried about uploading to social media. Lol.

I won't even say I was born in the wrong generation. I love being my age now, but DAMN I wish we had stuff like this now. Not just the music, but the music television and the whole attitude. Being a teen in the early 00's sucked because we were left in the 90's dust. Total cocktease. Or a rocktease, rather.

I remember this tour. I hated it from the first time I heard of it. The only reason I went was because after graduation (I was class of '94) the girl I had been lusting over the entire 3 years of high school asked me to go with her even though she knew I hated most of the bands. I asked her why she wanted me to go and she said "We'll be alone for almost a week and I'm fixing to go to basic training and you off to college. Think about it, why do you think I want you to go". Good week :)

A couple of years prior they probably would have just hung out doing a hit of acid after the show, but MCA trying to do this awkward interview with Billy (surprisingly) fumbling words is kind of amusing, considering his rep for having a big ego. If you read the Beastie Boys books, he was the smartest guy in the group and a little bit eccentric, so you do see him toying with Corgan a bit...but also that pressure of putting on a good show spinning around in his head.

Billy Corgan with hair actually reminds me of Nicky Wire from the Manics! I love the funkier Beastie Boy stuff, Adam totally seems here like he doesn't want to be interviewed, keeps looking away, is Billy really that bad?

From some other interviews and the contents of their book, it seems like the Beastie Boys didn't really like Corgan. DJ Hurricane definitely didn't and has plainly said it, not sure how MCA felt.

@balohna where did you get that from the book? I read it a couple months ago. They talk about how Billy stuffed Ricky Powell in a bball game, never said a negative word about Billy.
