easyest way to explain after Judgment of Anubis is: if oponent has 3 feather dusters, Judgment of Anubis might counter one and even destroy a creature and deal some damage, Cursed Seal of the Forbiden Spell stops all 3, essencially swapping them for bricks at the oponent hand/deck.

Lol he was also getting quite confused by cards specifying things in detail rather then being generally broad. He sounded mind blown when finding out that negates don’t always counter anything, it’s actually a category or type of cards or specified type of effect that negates usually stop. With such variety the blanket negates that nikachu is used to in MTG r known in yugioh as “omni-negates”. Every other negate, which only stops certain actions or effects, r known by what they stop. Such as “spell negate”, “trap negate”, and “monster negate”. It is quite common to evaluate modern boards based on how many interruptions and protection the endboard has b4 passing over on the very 1st turn of the duel. It’s not uncommon for a combo deck to pump out 3+ interruptions in 1 turn, something like a omni-negate, monster negate, and a pop for example. And on the other hand trap decks can often just set 3 equally as powerful traps and summon once or twice to protect their LP or traps and pass. And the reason combo decks r more popular then trap decks is bcuz they can if played well end on more interruptions and protection then trap decks can. I’ve seen synchro decks (more specifically stardust decks) end on 6 synchros all with an omni-negate each. Granted the deck faultlers to a single handtrap. While I’ve also seen a deck pit out a spell negate, 4 monster negates, and infinite omni-negates.

if a MTG player thinks of "negate" as "counter" then it's easy to be confused by "negate, if you do then destroy" in a MTG context "counter then destroy" would not make sense, countering a card already sends it to the graveyard

@@DJFracus oh I c. I didn't know that. Ya it's most definitely separate in yugioh. Just some unique differences between TCGs I guess. I guess it makes sense to have the negated card/effect be destroyed but then that limits card design space. Yugioh tries it's damnedest to open up as much design space as possible to be able to innovate card design in the future. MTG has to introduce new keywords just to innovate after all these years. They've run out of innovative ideas with their otherwise current roster of keywords so they have to make more to keep things fresh. On the other hand yugioh is designed so that they r less than 10% of its own design possibilities without needing to introduce new card types or whatever.

For Cursed Seal, it saw play a few formats back when the card "Mystic Mine" was legal. Generally when Mine is on the board, most decks in the game would stop functioning until they "draw the out", and because you can easily protect Mine from "destruction" effects, the main "out" people would play is a card called "Cosmic Cyclone" which exile the Mine instead of destroying it. If you flip Cursed Seal on Cosmic, it shuts down the other 2 copies of the card and pretty much wins you the game instantly. For Morphing Jar #2 Nika was misled a little bit. The card text says "shuffled into their MAIN DECK" which means that if your opponent had either Tokens or "extra deck" monsters, they aren't "shuffled into the MAIN deck", which means their controller do not get any summon. Also for FLIP effects, you don't need your opponent to trigger it, you can use other cards and effects to force the card to be flipped face-up and trigger its effect that way. The reason why Phantazmay is so good is because Link monsters are the most "generic" extra deck type. You can say that literally every single deck in the game have access to Link monsters, because all you need is 2 (or more) random guy on the board. And on top of all that, Phantazmay is always a +1 in card advantage, because in the worst possible case you summon him and draw 2, put 1 back.

The thing that i feel most MTG players don’t know, and it will certainly blow their brains out is that in YuGiOh the attacking player is who choses which of his monsters attack which of the enemy monsters, because in MTG is the other way around, you just chose who attacks and the opponent chose who defends each of your monsters. Edit: some times i feel they don’t get some battle tricks because they don’t know this concept.

I mean, Link Monsters/the Extra Monster zones DID exist in the anime, just not the first anime, they're from Vrains era which is a lot more recent. Also an important fact about Link Monsters is that, for a time you (if I understood the rules) basically HAD to have Link Monsters in your Extra Deck alongside everything else if you wanted to be able to have multiple extra deck monsters on the field(since you could only put them in the Extra Monster Zone OR any zones being pointed to by a Link Monster), so someone was almost certainly bound to summon a Link Monster at some point. That rule got changed tho.

For someone who’s base isnt magic, I dont think its immediately intuitive that creatures have to wait a turn before attacking or that if they do attack they cant defend. Its more about the base assumption of how creatures function in the system.

Morphing Jar - I remember decking my opponents with Morphing Jars and Card Destruction. Morphing Jar #2 - Combine it with Needle Worm, or Poison Mummy, and All-Out Attacks... Hilariously slow but guaranteed OTK. Fiber Jar - Was Banned for the longest time. Allowed for true degeneracy of the worst kind. Just shuffle everything back into the deck and restart the game. Cyber Jar - Was Banned for the longest time. Want to give your opponent a bunch of cards, so that you can punish them with Card Destruction... I do. Are all extremely fun cards. Oh and with All-Out Attacks, and both Morphing Jars, you can cause a draw, welcome to the lottery baby, who will deck out first?
