  i played Evil eye Unchained, a literal rogue deck against some Zeus plebs and it wasnt easy but i was able to recover and win a few, so i'd say that guy is still pretty fine compared to cards nowadays

  The mechanic of building your deck from a starter deck as you play (as opposed to up front as in MtG or in a separate drafting phase), and discaring your hand at end of turn, came from Dominion (2008).

  I love this kind of old magic guy reacts to standard but that duelist of the minds call is crazy enough to have ruined the vid for me. Somehow a secondary piece in a trash deck that loses to mono red is better then a card I see every 20 games or so that is not only in the most played deck in the format but in other decks like draw aggro and some izzet decks. The idea that it gets played slightly less then it use too is a poor excuse when it's baseline is the best deck. Sorry got to dislike this one.

  It being played in the best deck, then being cut because it wasn't good enough is reason to say just that - it's not good enough. I wanted to make it hard on MBT given that he has a ton of Magic background, and sometimes that means skirting the line of playability a bit so I don't make it too obvious what the right answer is.   The thing with Last Will is that back in the day there wasn't an official ruling on how it even worked which was constantly the cause of rulings arguments. I played a jank deck that made use of Last Will and I basically had to talk to a judge before I started playing to see how they'd actually rule Last Will works because it was never consistent. I've had the card ruled that it had to be played before the a monster was sent from the field to the GY to it could only be played after because the "IF" was considered a cost, I had judges rule it had to target, I had judges rule that it could miss timing if multiple monsters were sent at the same time, I had judges rule that it couldn't be triggered off a monster sent for cost... it was literally never ruled consistently... god forbid you played two in the same turn! I think Last Will should have always been a staple card, the issue was just that you could never rely on a ruling until there was an official one... which even that changed several times. Anyway it's been banned ever since we got a consistent ruling.

  MTG cards would be impossible to evaluate if people had to take every format into account. That's why we stick to 60 card formats for MTG for the most part on this channel.

  One thing I don't like no matter whether it's a magic player guessing Yu-Gi-Oh cards or Yu-Gi-Oh players guessing magic cards is making them evaluate combo pieces. They can't know what other cards are involved and how good they are so they could never fairly evaluate the card. I mean Joseph was right without a reanimate combo that big enchantment is not great.

  I try to make the cards require little to no context but unfortunately there will always be some amount of context needed to evaluate everything correctly.

  Also, decks casting leyline binding for 1 mana but making a token with 6 counters is an angle that makes seedshark playable, too. Vs some decks, t4 seedshark + make a giant token + remove their best thing is already devastating enough, even if they can answer the seedshark immediately

  When I watch these types of videos I have a tendancy to forget that not everybody plays commander. I will see a card that's good in commander and they will call it bad, or vice versa. The difference mostly comes down to the fact that commander is a singleton format with so many cards so you often need to use lesser versions of the same cards if you want a certain effect. So a card that sucks in oher formats because there are other stricktly better versions can be pretty decent in commander.

  we have all these banned cards that handrip, but then we have Triple Tactics Talent which is pot of greed, change of heart, or forceful sentry if your opponent has used a monster effect in the main phase. And it's at 3!

  I think specifically with distraction (and all other card generators), the only restrictions are that: 1. It cannot give you starter cards (in fact, there is no way to generate more starter cards in combat except by using Nightmare) 2. It cannot give you cards that could heal your HP 3. It cannot give you cards that are generated by other cards (like shivs)

  I think you should only make players guess if a card is banned in standard, maybe also modern. Once you get into pioneer you're getting very niche. "Sorry, this card broke Pauper. Guess you didn't think of everything."

  Its literally impossible to not LOVE this game, if you have background with card games such as Magic the Gathering. The design is sublime, its super impressive, the skill ceiling high, the combinations too fun to not tinker with, the replayability through the roof. You can play thousands of hours and still keep improving, and still keep doing new combinations. Its absurd how well designed this all is. Easy to learn but so hard to master. Hearthstone players, MtG players, all card gamers in general, this will always be the deckbuilder we never knew we wanted. Absolutely peak card gaming of our century.

  I think your stance on bullet time is wrong. you love it in acrobatics decks. just keep it in your hand or discardbit if needed while you assemble your ultimate hand, then play a 15 mana giga slap with the help of bullet time in one turn and finish the fight even in the lategame. is it worse than AI? sure, but its still good and way better than other silent rare cards like unload, die die die, glass knife, etc.
