Date hiked: 10/10/22
Miles hiked: 16.2
Trails hiked: Low Gap - Appalachian Trail - Lower Mt Cammerer (map link below)
The Smokies is showing off its fall colors right now and I'm here for it! I did a solo hike of the Mt Cammerer loop - going up Low Gap trail onto the Appalachian trail to Mt Cammerer fire tower and back on the AT and down Lower Mt Cammerer trail. The colors are absolutely AMAZING right now and I'm so happy I got to see the colors at their peak! Come along and join me virtually and see these amazing colors for yourself! It was a fabulous day to be in the Smokies!

Oh cool good to know!
So glad you shared this am planning to do this same loop on 10/14
It's like a breath of Fresh Fall Air watching this video. Finally a video that shows the trails like they are. Then the surrounding landscape in all of it glory. Plus no music so a person can enjoy the sounds of the trail as the individual hikes along. A very welcome break for a person in Central Floridian still dealing with the aftermath of a Hurricane.
Very beautiful 🤩
You are brave eating bean dip on the trail. Lol❤
Ahhhhh! Oh my gosh, those colors were STUNNING! Mt. Cammerer might be my favorite hike. Thank you for taking us along, as I won't get a chance to get up there this Fall! Also...note to self: hike Lower Mt. Cammerer in the Fall! I hiked it in Winter and it was kind of meh. Those colors were gorgeous! Love your AT beanie! I just started section hiking the AT. I completed GA in a week a few weeks ago! 😃

100% agree with you. I think many people never really enjoy the moment trying to get a selfie.
Absolutely gorgeous!!
I missed you again we were at Cosby on October 5,6 . Last March we were at Elkmont around the same time you were . We hope to see you on trail sometime . We hiked trillium to Mt Leconte it was a rough day.
It was awesome. Love it!
Loved this one ! So beautiful!

I hiked that mountain last Saturday.
This is my favorite type of “Braids” video! Thank you so much for sharing. The colors are so amazing this year. The colors here in NC are so beautiful this year too! I just wish Fall would last a lot longer. I need more time to take pictures!
Girl you are so brave thank you for sharing your video, I’d be scared by myself, you go girl beautiful colors ❤️
Thank you for the beautiful video! What brilliant colors! Congratulations on the long hike on a hard trail!! I'm hoping to get out this weekend. It's peak colors this week in the mountains where we live in Pennsylvania. No rocks on my mountain lol!
Beautiful colors! I’ve hiked it once and it was in the dead summer heat! Love the way it looks in the fall! Thanks for sharing !

You’re so welcome!
Great hike. Fall is the best time to hike. If you ever have a couple of weeks of free time in the fall, you might want to consider doing the Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota. If you could time it to start about one week before the peak in fall colors you could have 2 weeks of amazing fall color hiking. 🍁🍂 😎👍
What a stunning video Braids. The colors are just beautiful and it’s obvious how much you enjoyed it. I noticed the 2022 AT thru hiker tag in the hut. There must be SOBOs in that area right now. Lovely video and thanks for sharing. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️

Yes there was a young lady up there going southbound
Love the Smokies vids! I wish I could do those kind of miles on a day hike. My IT band/knees and back would not approve. 😆
Great video!! 🙂 The fall colors are a poppin' for sure. Can you camp in the tower? (I have never hiked this trail.) Thanks for making another great video!! I will have to make that yummy looking burrito. 😋

No camping is only allowed at designated campsites
It was great meeting you on the spur trail to the tower. I was hiking the 24 mile loop from Mt. Cammerer tower to Mt. Sterling tower from Big Creek.

Wow you made it in 25 minutes. Took us 10 hours..lol. we hit the trail at 1:40 am to catch the sunrise. ( posted a vid) About 2 miles in I (Doug) learned that I need to be in much better shape before we do it again. Low Gap is no joke

Lol it's one of those hikes that doesn't seem that bad initially but definitely takes longer to hike than one would think. Catching the sunrise is pretty awesome though :)

16.5 miles for this hike
How long did it take to do this hike? Did u start early in the morning? I live in TN and would like to do this, but I need to plan it accordingly. 16.2 miles is quite a hike for me!

It took me 9 hours including a 45 min break - fair warning it is a tough hike going up but Lower Mt Cammerer is a nice trail with fairly smooth terrain.
I believe side paths are to cemeteries.
Is the trail you took back down less strenuous/steep than Low Gap? I just lost my big toe nail due to that hike back down..lol. Wrong shoes.

@@HikingwithBraids Probably worth the extra miles to save the calves and toes. Thanks.
I've never done Mt Cammerer. Maybe next year. I've kind of been burnt out of backpacking lately. Only went once this year during the June heat wave and didn't have a good time...
