Learn the meaning behind every reference made by Joel, Servo and Crow, no matter how obscure. And if we missed anything, be sure to let us know in the comments section.
Mitchell is a cop who plays by his own rules. Of course, his rules usually involve heavy drinking, abrasiveness, and all-around sleazy behavior. This 1975 Joe Don Baker vehicle is the perfect film for the MST3K gang to riff on.

When my grandpa was alive, we would watch the show all the time. We also watched the Utah Jazz play and every time Donovan Mitchell made a three pointer, we would look at each other and go, "MITCHELL!"

The United States uses military resources meant to keep us safe to spy on, torture, groom, and harass victims of pedophilic abuse. Victims are groomed and forcibly shown deviant sexual content at ages as young as 6 years old. They hack the household devices, including hijacking the television while a child is up and alone. They are forcibly shown deviant content involving animals or disgusting acts that would be illegal for an adult. They target victims this young because this is the age that fetishes are developed and children this young are not capable of understanding what they are seeing is not normal. They are intentionally grooming defenseless children into deviant sexualities. This is also a way to shame victims into silence, they think the more deviant and depraved they are with children, they will be less likely to speak out about what happened to them out of shame. In person they will encourage children below puberty to engage in deviant sexual acts and try to convince them this is normal behavior. Both children and adults are molested and raped through the use of substances that render them unconscious and the only reason a victim might know that something has occurred is because they leave body fluids in or around the victim. When the victims get older there is use of an advanced AI that alters content that they see by inserting references and imagery that would seem normal to other people but has special meaning to the torture victim. This will be repeated again and again indefinitely. This is both for the purposes of psychological torture and to provoke violence Some people are being intentionally tortured throughout their entire lives, they may target them because they think they are easy prey or maybe they were just attracted to that particular child. They use innocuous symbols because there is plausible deniability . A victim that was groomed by pedophiles is repeatedly shown something related to their exploitation. Like a rapist that rapes a woman with a common object for the purposes of torture. They want the victim to relive the trauma as much as possible. The use of weaponized AI would manipulate algorithms to show them what the torturers wanted them to see. The AI would do the grunt work of content modification and categorization.

This is actually one of the better exits for a major character that I've seen in TV. No character assassination, no senseless death- Joel just gets to leave and go back to earth, safe and sound. Plus they make the switch in the middle of the season to give everyone time to adjust to the change before they make up their minds about whether they want to continue watching. Nicely done, MST3K.

Some tidbits about the movie and episode (since somebody asked): • This episode first aired Oct. 23, 1993. Joel's pending departure was announced the previous May. • This episode was put out as a single-disk release on November of 2001. • You want a metaphor? How about Joel building an extremely fragile creation, certain in the knowledge that it will be destroyed? Now, that’s a metaphor. • The Daktari stool sat in the hallway of BBI for years. It was still there when I visited the set in 1999. • Want a connection from this movie to the Robert Blake murder case? Sure, we all do! Gary McLarty and Ronald (Duffy) Hambleton, both of whom testified against Blake when he was accused of killing his wife, had small roles in this movie. McLarty played one of Mistretta’s henchmen and Hambleton played mob boss Edmondo Bocca, who gets dropped by Mitchell just short of the green. But, unfortunately for the prosecution, both of these guys had somewhat checkered pasts. Blake’s defense team successfully undermined the credibility of both witnesses, introducing evidence of mental illness, drug addiction, etc. In the end, their testimony may have actually helped Blake get off. • The presence of that Christmas tree in John Saxon’s house - and pretty much no other references to it being Christmas - is one of the many odd things about this movie. • Joel seems to lose it during the “Adam Rich” scene. (Actually, the kid is played by a Todd Bass, in his second and last role in show business, according to the IMDB. It would be fun to find Mr. Bass, who must be in his 40s by now, to see what he remembers of this shoot. By the way, according to Wikipedia the kid is supposed to be the son of Linda Evans’ character! Who knew?) • Hamdingers suddenly took over the MSTie consciousness after this episode, but it was funny how Gypsy and Mike (and, by extension, BBI) seemed very clear on what Hamdingers were … but nobody else seemed to be. It was hard to nail down just what they were, and descriptions seemed contradictory. Some said the Swift-Premium folks made them (I believe Kevin invoked Swift Premium during an online chat). Not true. Hamdingers were a short-lived meat product produced by the Patrick Cudahy Co., out of Cudahy, Wis., in the mid '70s … The product was sliced ham patties, about the size of a hamburger patty, and it came in a round can. Like Spam, it became a great meat to fry up with some eggs for breafast, but the great thing about Hamdingers is that it came in individually sliced portions, so you could grab a patty and fry it up for that perfect Hamdinger sandwich. • I love that DOS command Mike has to type in to the “techtronic panel” (apparently this was the one and only time that the control panel in Deep 13 was called this). • Movie comment: Toward the end of the movie, Mitchell inserts a portion of his handkerchief (there’s a lesson, kids!: always remember to carry a handkerchief; you never know when you might want to blow up a drug dealer’s car!), then screws the gas cap back on over it, so that the rest of the handkerchief is hanging down. He then drives to the meeting place and when the deal goes south he, all in a split second, whips out a lighter, lunges forward and holds the lighter to the handkerchief, which INSTANTANEOUSLY lights up. Now maybe, just maybe, the tank was very, very full and the handkerchief got nice and soaked with gasoline on the ride over. But the tank might also have been mostly empty, meaning the handkerchief could have been bone dry. That seems far more likely, doesn’t it? Which would mean it would have taken maybe ten seconds for Mitchell to light it, plenty of time to stop Mitchell. What I’m saying is that it seems unlikely that the handkerchief would immediately burst into flames in a fraction of a second like it does here. The whole thing is about as implausible as a young, sultry callgirl falling in love with Mitchell. • I love the classic, low-tech use of confetti to simulate static in the Hexfield. Very Joel. • When fans on the internet weren’t obsessing about Hamdingers, they were arguing about the correct pronunciation of “Lao” as in “Dr. Lao.” • Tom and Crow fall apart during the PANIC, but I think this may be one time it was on purpose.

Wow, just had an epiphany at the opening bit with the toothpicks. So, I believe Joel ended up parting with series over creative differences in regards to the MST3K movie (well, it was definitely more than one thing but that was the metaphorical straw). So, Joel saying he’s been working on “the sculpture” for 3 years but it’s fine for them to destroy it is really about what he’s been going through with the film. Anyway, here’s to one of the best episodes of the series there is! Just wanted to share a quick realization I had.

Okay- the sex scene riffs had me SCREAMING, that was so amazing. 😂 Also, am I the only one that realized that the guy playing Cummings played Arbogast in “Psycho”, because I’m shook about that.

I just found this channel. Was a big fan from back in the day. Knowing that this channel exists, makes my life slightly more awesome - or slightly less terrible. (Maybe both?) Either way, it's good.

Around 46 minutes "Mitchell sure got himself hogtied and railroaded there" is probably a reference to the narrator on the Dukes of Hazzard, who would make similar folksy pronouncements at the ends of scenes.

No, it’s that “he” got “himself” hogtied, when one may only hogtie oneself

Joel's best was his last, and my favorite MST3K episode. I liked Mike just fine, but Joel's 'almost disinterested' delivery killed me.

The whole bit during 22:32 through 23:17 is a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey, when HAL was reading the crew's lips

Gypsy is involved with two Kubrick references in this episode, first the 2001 a Space Odyssey reference to the close up of HAL-9000 lip reading the pilots(22:50), then the POE, EOP OPE(purity of essence) from Dr Strangelove(38:29)

RIP John Saxon 😢, you'll always be my favorite villain killed in a dune buggy accident off camera. Also you were pretty cool in Enter the Dragon.
